Exploring the Use of Tablet Applications for Emergency Resuscitation Practice

January 2016 (has links)
abstract: As technology has advanced in recent years, tablet devices have started to make their way into all walks of life. Yet, many medical documentation processes still see the use of paper. Though the paper based documentation method has been shown to be effective for some purposes, the introduction of tablet devices has the potential to make the documentation processes a lot smoother. In this thesis, tablet based documentation systems are reviewed, and based on this, a new custom application is developed that medical staff can use with ease. This new application, developed for an iPad is one where users can fully customize their own forms for different uses in the intensive care unit for resuscitation scenarios. The thesis discusses the architecture behind this application along with designing different elements of the system. Through this thesis project, the application was evaluated to see if such a complex documentation process can be easily used and created on a tablet device. The medical staff surveyed, responded positively to the use of the application and agreed that the electronic documentation usage and creation is a powerful tool that could help improve resuscitation practice by making it more efficient. / Dissertation/Thesis / Survey Responses / Masters Thesis Engineering 2016

Intertextual echoes : violence, terror, and narrative in the novels of Ian McEwan and Graham Swift

Padwicki, Robyn Sharlene 11 1900 (has links)
Numerous studies have pointed to the historiographic and metafictional aspects of Ian McEwan’s and Graham Swift’s fiction, although few have examined the connections between McEwan and Swift. This study develops from that work by proposing that McEwan’s and Swift’s fictions explore similar themes, beyond those of just history and metafiction. By situating McEwan and Swift as postmodern writers who are strikingly intertextual, in the sense initially coined by Julia Kristeva, this study will show that both authors are deeply concerned with the violence of the twentieth and early twenty-first centuries, and the role that violence has played in the failure of metanarratives, as well as the resulting terror subjects face as they seek replacements for the personal authenticity, legitimacy, and meaning once provided by totalizing metanarratives. This study also illustrates that McEwan and Swift recognize the persistence of the metanarrative of science, as well as the psychic violence inherent in trying to replace metanarratives with received literary traditions. By developing on these ideas, this thesis argues that McEwan and Swift are actively engaged not only in exploring the anxiety subjects face as they realize there is nothing left upon which they can base their personal legitimacy, but also that the authors are suggesting there is no easy replacement for the lost, albeit fictitious, authenticity once situated in metanarratives and received genres. Finally, this paper will demonstrate that while these two contemporary novelists significantly problematize narrative and narrative frameworks, McEwan and Swift ultimately convey only one sure method to cope with the mourning and terror of the postmodern condition: continue writing. / Graduate Studies, College of (Okanagan) / Graduate

Integration av Google Cast till en iOS-applikation : Med ramverket SwiftUI / Integration of Google Cast to an iOS-application : With the framework SwiftUI

Sandberg, Ludvig, Svensson, Arvid January 2020 (has links)
This project describes how Google Cast support is implemented to an iOS-application that uses the SwiftUI framework. The idea for the project was provided by BookBeat AB as they currently lack support for Google Cast in their iOS-application. The project begins with a research phase where a demonstration application has been developed. The demonstration application consists of two parts, a sender application and a receiver application. The sender application was developed in the programming language Swift and the framework SwiftUI. The receiver application was developed with HTML5 and JavaScript. The result from the project was the demonstration application that has the functionality to stream the content of radio channels from Sveriges Radio locally on the device it runs on, or stream the media to Google Cast devices.

An analysis and comparison of the Native mobile application versus the Progressive web application

Berggren, William January 2023 (has links)
This thesis explores the comparison of progressive web applications (PWA) with native mobile applications. This thesis sheds light on an issue that is relevant today and will be even more so in the near future due to the constant advancement of technology and the growing dependence of human life on the use of mobile applications. The use of the mobile has increased significantly over the past couple of decades with the mobile application being integrated into the human lifestyle. This pattern of growth indicates that the development of the applications needs to be adjusted for an effective and more secure approach. Although the native application is currently the leading app, the PWA puts on a more extensive challenge than before due to its effectiveness and simplicity. By developing one PWA and one native mobile application, this study aims to identify the key differences. The focus of the analysis was to demonstrate the three critical aspects, speed, security and time of development with the results showing that the PWA performs better in terms of speed when being optimized, but the native mobile application has a larger access base for feature implementation. These results enrich the ongoing discussion with further understanding for the two most popular strategies of crafting a mobile application, with information about how the future of the app scene possibly evolve.
