There are numerous different white spotting patterns in the horse, including two of particular interest tobiano and sabino. In the mouse, genetic variation in the gene KIT causes many white spotting patterns. Due to the phenotypic similarity among white spotting patterns in horses and mice, KIT was investigated as the cause of the tobiano and sabino spotting patterns in horses. Initially, the KIT cDNA sequences from horses with several spotting patterns were compared. Three single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) were identified, though none were associated with a spotting pattern. Three novel splicing variants were also observed: exon 17 skipping, exon 18 skipping and alternative splicing of exon 3. Families segregating for a sabino spotting pattern (designated Sabino 1) and exon 17 skipping were discovered. Sequencing revealed a SNP (KI16+1037) within intron 16 that was completely associated with skipping of exon 17. Using a PCR-RFLP for KI16+1037, linkage was discovered for sabino spotting (LOD=9.02 for =0) and presence of the Sabino 1 allele detected in seven breeds. While all horses with this SNP exhibited the Sabino 1 phenotype, some horses with a sabino phenotype did not possess the SNP. This is most likely due to genetic heterogeneity of the phenotype. Fluorescent in situ hybridization (FISH) was used to investigate the possibility of chromosome inversion in the region of KIT. A chromosomal inversion was discovered spanning ECA3q13 to 3q21 using BAC clones containing KIT and other genes in the same region. The ECA3q inversion was completely associated with Tobiano in the eight horses tested by FISH. This inversion may disrupt regulatory sequences of the KIT gene and thereby cause tobiano spotting. Spotting patterns are important to horse breeders for aesthetic as well as economic reasons. Spotting patterns in the horse may also be an interesting scientific model. The two genetic variants discovered in this work are good examples of genetic diversity due to mechanisms other than SNPs. Study of these variants may be valuable for examining the effects of the KIT gene on health traits. In particular, the KIT gene directs many functions of the mast cell, a cell that is involved in the etiology of inflammation.

A partir de uma comparação entre \"O Homem Nu\" (1960) e A Nudez da Verdade (1993), ambos de Fernando Sabino, este trabalho analisa e discute, em especial, três aspectos da obra do escritor mineiro: sua trajetória como artista, o trabalho com os mecanismos formais da literatura em cada texto e a relação deles com os gêneros literários a que se filiam. O primeiro aspecto é examinado por meio de um paralelo, na carreira de Sabino, entre os momentos da primeira publicação dos textos. O segundo examina as semelhanças e diferenças entre as obras, baseando-se numa leitura atenta. O terceiro, por fim, busca articular as características detectadas com a bibliografia teórica de gêneros como a crônica, o conto e a novela, além de referências mais gerais. Como síntese, três imagens conceituais são desenvolvidas: o fluido, o fixo e o entre. O fluido, no âmbito desta dissertação, condensa forças presentes na obra que tendem à instabilidade e à renovação, seja na forma literária, seja no trabalho com os gêneros. O fixo, por sua vez, se refere às forças contrárias, que tendem à estabilidade e à institucionalização. O entre, posição intermediária entre as forças, reuniria os recursos empregados por Sabino, em ambas as histórias, para manter-se equidistante d\'o fluido e d\'o fixo, e, assim, aproveitar o potencial de ambos. / This study is, at its core, a comparative reading of \"O Homem Nu\" (1960) and A Nudez da Verdade (1993), both penned by Fernando Sabino. It develops an analysis and a discussion of three main aspects of those texts: their dialogue with his career, the literary elements with which he made them and their connections to literary genres, such as the Brazilian \"crônica\", the short story and the novella. In the first chapter of this dissertation, Sabino\'s career is summarized in a parallel between the first publication date of both texts. Then, we proceed to a comparative analysis of the literary similarities and differences between them. In the third chapter, we mobilize essays discussing genre conventions, as well as broader theoretical works, to comprehend both texts. Finally, we develop three conceptual images: the fluidity, the fixedness and between. The fluidity is a set of forces that produce instability and renewal, whether in literary aspects or in genre conventions. The fixedeness represents other forces, in the opposite direction, which produce stability and institutionalisation. Between is an image that references how Sabino manages to keep distance from fluidity and fixedness at the same time, to better take advantage of both of them.

Em Com a graça de Deus, de Fernando Sabino, observa-se como o mito cristão é reiterado literariamente sob a perspectiva do humor enquanto fator de humanização do divino e de aproximação entre o homem e Deus. Partindo-se de uma fundamentação teórica a respeito da fé e de uma definição histórico-religiosa do Messias na cultura judaica, estuda-se, em Aleluia, de Josué Montello, o tema da paternidade divina de Jesus enquanto requisito para sua condição de Messias. Na obra de Armando Avena, aborda-se a temática feminina no contexto sócio-histórico do surgimento do cristianismo, verificando como O Evangelho segundo Maria apropria-se do texto canônico, utilizando-o como discurso de denúncia e crítica a uma cultura de caráter masculinizante e patriarcal, que discrimina e oprime fortemente a mulher. A pesquisa demonstra as práticas de estilização e apropriação do texto sagrado do Cristianismo empreendidas pela Literatura através desses textos, enfatizando sua importância na promoção do diálogo entre Teologia e Literatura e na constante atualização do mito cristão na contemporaneidade. / Universidade Federal da Bahia. Este libro se encuentra sobre la base del proyecto «Sabino Springett. Investigación en homenaje por sus cien años de nacimiento» del Instituto de Investigaciones de Arte Peruano se inició en el año 2013 con la finalidad de rescatar estas tres facetas del artista mediante un estudio académico y multidisciplinario. Se han analizado las piezas in situ, se realizó un registro fotográfico profesional, se catalogaron las obras y fueron revisados los documentos en archivos y bibliotecas especializadas. Además, se han efectuado charlas, conferencias y presentaciones de los avances en congresos, coloquios y aulas de diversas instituciones públicas y privadas. En esta publicación, el lector podrá encontrar ilustraciones, fotografías de las pinturas, la historia y constitución de estas.
