The physical space of the classroom is the main locus in which the teaching/learning process takes place. In the new teaching rationale, in the era of information, the incorporation of new technologies has been altering the teaching/learning dynamic. Just as environments designed by architects influence the bodies and minds of their users, in the same manner, a classroom exerts influence over its students. The case study herein, method used in this research, had the objective of investigating the perception of Architecture and Urbanism students with respect to the performance of their learning activities as classroom users, seeing as they are the future designers of these spaces. With the intent to contribute to the study of teaching environments, we sought to understand the aspects of the environment that had greater relevance to its users and to identify positive and/or negative factors that may influence student performance. Through the application of a part of MEAC (The Ergonomic Methodology for the Built Environment) in conjunction with the application of Constellation of Attributes and Wish Poems, one can come to know the most relevant attributes of the environment that is experienced, versus that which is idealized, by those that are subject to the research. The data derived from this research was compared and contrasted amongst itself as well as to the pertinent legislation. The results show that the classrooms researched do not meet the needs of the subjects studied and that aspects of environmental comfort, among others, do not meet legislative standards. Suggestions for the improvement of classrooms are presented herein, in addition to the suggestion that more in-depth research in Ergonomics be performed with and by students of Architecture and Urbanism in order to better enable them in mastering and utilizing such knowledge in their future designs.
