This thesis deals with the in-store marketing and its application in the supermarket Billa ltd. The work is divided into the theoretical and practical part. The theoretical part deals with sales support, which includes in-store marketing. In the practical part I describe the current trends within in-store marketing and the merchandising problems there as well. The practical work is also dedicated to the description of the actual means of in-store marketing in the supermarket Billa ltd. The actual research work is carried out on the basis of survey and field survey of the supermarket. Using the obtained results and their comparison with the supermarket Albert are defined and I evaluated current trends in in-store marketing within the supermarket Billa ltd.

The Outdoor Apparel Industry:Measuring the Premium for Sustainability with a Hedonic Pricing Model

Evaluating the existing practices of sustainability within the outdoor apparel industry, this research questions the relationship that certain sustainability aspects have with the price of goods in this specific market. Through a hedonic pricing model, this research provides an estimate of the value placed on certain aspects surrounding environmental and social sustainability. In a growing industry, the application of sustainable practices throughout the supply chain has the potential to influence customer purchasing patterns and pricing models for outdoor apparel brands. This research found the type of material used to have a statistically significant impact on the price of an item; no statistical significance was found in the level of brand sustainability.

AN EVALUATION OF THE PERFORMANCE OF LEGGINGS BASED ON A CONSUMER SURVEY

The purpose of this research was to identify the legging features that athleisure consumers desire and the performance problems they frequently encounter. A non-probability sample (n=133) of college students who identified as female and wore leggings for non-athletic purposes were surveyed. The questionnaire was designed based upon examination of online product reviews and current complaints with legging products. The results of the survey were used to design and complete a laboratory evaluation. Laboratory samples and methods were then chosen to assess the performance qualities desired when purchasing leggings and the problems encountered when wearing leggings by the surveyed consumers. Three brands were identified by the survey as regularly consumed legging brands and included: Lululemon, Nike, and 90 Degree. All laboratory samples were a nylon, spandex blend fabric. Garments were laundered and evaluated after one, five, ten, and twenty washes. All evaluations were completed in a Textile Testing Laboratory according to AATCC and ASTM standard test methods.

A Bass Diffusion Model Analysis: Understanding Alternative Fuel Vehicle Sales

Frank M. Bass developed the Bass Diffusion Model to predict how innovative consumer durable products diffuse through consumer markets. This thesis will use data from 1999-2011 to examine the applicability of the Bass Diffusion Model to the introduction of alternative fuel vehicles (AFVs) in the automobile market. The findings in this thesis indicate the Bass Diffusion Model fit the diffusion pattern exhibited by AFVs well, but failed to accurately forecast diffusion patterns outside a given range of data. This thesis investigates potential reasons for the inaccurate 'Out of Sample Forecast', and gives recommendations for directions of future research on AFV diffusion.

CONSUMER’S MOTIVATION FOR PURCHASING FAIR TRADE CLOTHING

The purpose of this research is to determine if a consumer’s demographics, perceived consumer effectiveness, and awareness of fair trade practices affect their level of hedonic and utilitarian motivations that ultimately influence their purchase intentions. Two separate studies were conducted: a focus group and a survey. Middle-aged and older respondents were more motivated to buy fair trade clothing by both hedonic and utilitarian motivations than younger respondents. Respondents with only some college or an Associate’s degree are more hedonically motivated than other education levels. Respondents with a high household income are more motivated by their hedonic and utilitarian motivations than respondents with a low income. Respondents with high PCE responded more to their hedonic and utilitarian motivations to buy fair trade clothing than consumers with low PCE. Respondents that see promotional campaigns for fair trade clothing are overall less motivated to buy fair trade clothing than respondents that do not. Respondents that feel that people could make fairer choices if they were aware of which companies had high ethical principles are overall more motivated than respondents that feel people could not. As a respondent’s buying intention grew, the respondent grew more motivated in both hedonic and utilitarian categories.

Brand Analyses of Global Brands Versus Local Brand in Indian Apparel Consumer Market

The purpose of this study was to conduct brand analyses on global brands in comparison to local retailers in India taking into account the regional differences and Indian consumers’ affinity towards global brands. The study has derived its conceptual framework from previous work done by Lee, Knight, and Kim (2008) and Bhardwaj, Kumar and Youn-Kyung (2010) with some added attributes. Quantitative data included a sample of 194 subjects where the sampling was conducted randomly as well as the involvement of convenient method to analyze the brands in real-world scenario. The survey involved the questionnaire which was utilized in previous researches and analyzed under the light of statistical treatment. The results confirm the importance of global brands (influence of European brand over American brand) over local brand in the Indian apparel consumer market.

The Best of Both Retail Worlds: Analyzing the Clicks-and-Bricks Retail Model

Since the internet became a new marketplace for buyers and sellers, the modernization of e-commerce brings into question whether online retailing can effectively replace traditional brick-and-mortar stores. Recent trends have highlighted the struggling business of physical retailers, yet many continue to operate while also having introduced an online sales channel along with pages on social media to increase engagement with customers. This study challenges the popular assumption that e-commerce is cannibalizing in-store sales opportunities, where online sales grow increasingly at the expense of the conventional method of shopping in brick-and-mortar stores. In examining financial and internet-related data of 50 major U.S. retailers from 2008 through 2013, I run panel data regressions to identify factors that contribute to the growth of in-store sales revenue and the proportion of online sales. My results indicate that retailers operating a clicks-and-bricks model do not suffer from channel cannibalization but may be forming a synergy across channels, as there are significant increases in measures regarding both physical and online retail operations.

Effects of the Gender of the Real Estate Agents on House Prices

This paper studies the effects of the gender of the real estate agents on the closing price of residential, single-family homes in seven cities in east Los Angeles county from 2016 to 2017. We conduct two sets of regressions and find that contrary to previous studies, female listing agents outperform male listing agents. We also find that the gender of the buyer’s agents does not have significant effects on house prices. These results suggest that negotiation skills might not be the main key to explain the discrepancy of performance between male and female real estate agents.

Consumers and Benefits of Genetically Modified Vegetables

With the adoption of biotechnology in many agricultural products with first-generation biotechnology traits such as increased pest resistance, greater herbicide resistance, and increased yields the growers have accepted them. The next wave of biotech crops have second-generation traits, such as improved nutrient content, extended shelf life, reduced pesticide and herbicide application (a consumer demanded trait), and better taste. Will these consumer benefits offset any concern that the consumer has regarding biotechnology? What are those benefits and how should the information be communicated to the consumer? Three focus groups give insight to the proposed questions. The focus groups were done in three California cities, with participants screened to be: 18-65 years of age, the primary shopper for the household, and with an education level up to a bachelor’s degree. We found that the consumer has little knowledge of biotechnology, but that they assume any concern over these products is reduced if the grocery store or point of purchase is a reputable location. The consumer does look for added utility in products, but they are not willing to pay more unless they understand the production of biotechnology developed products. The consumer feels that there should be labeling of these products, but will likely purchase the least expensive option.
