How the educational system in China is designed

Andersson, Felicia, Nordström, Emelie January 2014 (has links)
This is a qualitative study, and the purpose is to examine and gain a deeper understanding of China’s school system. Results from international comparative studies, such as the PISA survey and the TIMSS study, show that Chinese students have the highest mathematical scores. This evoked our interest and led to the beginning of this study. The research material comes from observations at three schools and interviews with in-service teachers, pre-service teachers and a head teacher in Hohhot, China. The results and the conclusion of this study shows that the content in the Chinese curriculum is comprehensive and does not give much time to individualize the lessons. The Chinese school system is very exam-oriented, and together with the pressure from the society and their parents, the students are forced to spend a lot of time to study. Another conclusion to this study is that pre-service teachers in China do not have much teacher practice at schools, but they study a lot of mathematics and methodology separately at the university.

Heroldová, Eva January 2019 (has links)
This diploma thesis examines the use of the law as an instrument for the governance of the education system in the Czech Republic. It evaluates the impact some selected changes in legislation had on the education system during the period between 1990 and 2010. The topic of this paper is the law used as an instrument for implementing education policies in the Czech Republic, as well as monitoring of and evaluating objectives and reality. A section in the theoretical part is dedicated to defining and explaining the basic terms the author works with and uses throughout the text. The paper briefly analyses the development of changes within the school system in the course of the first twenty years that followed after the November overthrow in 1989. Key attempts to make changes in education and child-rearing are described, and the amendments to the Education Act or, if applicable, other legislation that impacted on the school system and education are examined. Not only does this paper summarize the key legislative reforms within the education process in the Czech Republic between 1990 and 2010, it also examines the education system from the curriculum documents' point of view - Primary School, General School and National School, the Framework Education Programme - as well as the school governance systems...

Fria skolval och lärarfacken : En jämförelse mellan svensk och fransk skoldebatt

Westberg, Erik January 2007 (has links)
This essay compares the public debate in Sweden 1992 caused by the reforms introduced by the then government giving parents a free choice of schools for their children with the current debate in France about proposals for a similar law there. The study concentrates on the positions taken by the teachers trade unions, in Sweden Lärarförbundet and Lärarnas Riksförbund (LR) and in France SGEN-CFDT. To do so it is necessary also to study the arguments given for and against the proposals by the political parties. Some of the differences between the debates can be attributed to different circumstances. The Swedish reform was related to the opening up of possibilities to run private schools, which previously had been rare in Sweden. The French debate has no such connections. The private schools, mostly Catholic, have a very stable share of the students and no side is openly arguing for a change of any sort. Other differences depend on the French adversity to liberalism, almost always conflated with neo-liberalism which makes market-oriented arguments much less common in French public debate. Among the trade unions the big difference is between the two Swedish organisations, LR was overall positive to the proposals while Lärarförbundet opposed them. In France SGEN-CFDT takes a position strikingly similar to Lärarförbundets in Sweden 1992 seeing free choice as undermining the idea of a school system for all. In Sweden that idea is seen as a part of the welfare state, closely connected to the Social Democratic party. In France it is seen as a republican idea, connected to an idea of citizenship. The trade unions of the teachers in both France and Sweden are also in similar positions as their role has become merely reactive. There seems to be little room left for them to formulate policy and push the educational systems in their prefered directions.

A Cost-Benefit Analysis of the Implementation of Texas House Bill 72 in Selected Texas Public School Districts

Bradford, Ronald W. (Ronald Wayne) 05 1900 (has links)
This study was conducted to analyze the effect of implementation of Texas House Bill 72 on budgets of selected Texas public school districts and to ascertain educational benefits to students derived from implementation of the bill as perceived by superintendents. Questionnaires were sent to superintendents of the Region 10 Education Service Center to determine perceived educational benefits to students. A demographic data sheet provided information for classifying respondents by educational experience, superintendent experience, and district enrollment classifications. Sixty-two districts responded. Official public school budget data for each district were analyzed for fiscal years 1983 through 1986 as were data from the questionnaire. Overall statistical information was gleaned through CONDESCRIPTIVE. Mean total expenditures, mean total tax rate, and state fiscal aid data were compiled, tabulated, and reported for each enrollment classification and entire sample. In addition, a t-test between the difference of two independent means at a probability level of .05 was applied. The two independent means were the averages of data for the two years prior to and after implementation of the law for expenditures, tax rates, and state fiscal contributions. Data comparing local and state expenditures were compiled, tabulated, and reported for each group to compare local and state fiscal effort prior to and after implementation. One-way analysis of variance was used to compare demographic variables with perceived educational benefits. Item and factor analyses were applied to establish reliability.

Funkce školy a školního vzdělávání v současném pojetí / Function of schools and education in the current concept

Krátká, Zdeňka January 2012 (has links)
TITLE: Function of schools and education in current concept. AUTHOR: Bc.Zdeňka Krátká DEPARTME T: School Management Centre SUPERVISOR: Assoc. Prof. Jaroslav Kalous, Ph.D. ABSTRACT: Dynamic development of contemporary society significantly affects the education requirements. Therefore current educational program has to respond flexibly and implement new knowledge of technology, information and communication technology, economics, social disparities reflect accretion, changes in traditional family model, ecological threats. The role of school as a social institution must ensure the implementation of a range of functions and its operation is dependent on many involved factors associated not only with school itself but also with external environment. Thus in the first part, this thesis describes the function of schools and current school education. Further attention is also paid to the role and function of school leaders in education and school management. The second part is focused on the research performance of the functions of schools in primary education level. Although the results of the research are clear on the performance of most requested features, their direct impact on school and leisure-time activities of students and public must be improved.

Leading Change in Schools: Leadership Practices for a District Supported School-Based Reform Model

Verra, Monica C 10 November 2009 (has links)
The reauthorization of the Individual with Disabilities Education Act of 2004 strongly encourages the use of a response-to-intervention (RtI) model to reduce the number of students identified as learning disabled, to increase student achievement, and to close learning gaps between subgroups of students. RtI is based on the systematic assessment of students' responses to high-quality research-based instruction and interventions. The implementation of a research-based school-specific intervention model, such as RtI, may result in significant change for schools and districts. The purpose of this study was to describe perceptions of the level of change the implementation of RtI represents in a school district and perceptions of school and district leadership practices used to implement RtI. The literature on organizational change and learning, the role of principals and district leaders in school reform, and the effect of leadership behaviors on the ability to influence change form the theoretical basis for this study. This mixed-methods study is descriptive in nature. Data were gathered through the administration of a leadership-behavior assessment measure and focus-group interviews. The sample included seven elementary schools in a large school district in west-central Florida. The results of this study suggest that the implementation of RtI is perceived as a second-order change by most stakeholders. The findings point to the need for principals and district leaders responsible for implementing RtI to employ leadership practices needed for second-order change, paying particular attention to practices that have been identified in the literature as having a negative association with second-order change. It is recommended that districts consider the use of a collaborative process in order to develop nonnegotiable strategic and specific, measurable goals for the implementation of RtI. In addition, districts and schools responsible for implementing RtI should consider benchmarking their practices against practices identified in this study to identify the strategies needed to scale-up district-wide reform and promote sustainability.
