Through a general literature review about biomass feeding systems including feeders for low density polydispersed vegetable residues, there were established functional characteristics of these devices, highlighting their main positive and negative aspects. Considering silos as the central component of a feeding system, and their relation to the development of tensions associated to operation dificulties it was verified that they cause instability and eventually interruption of discharge flow. On the basis of this information, it was projected, constructed and evaluated a prototype of a feeding system for low density polydispersed biomass. This new type of feeding systems had a satisfactory performance when working with sugar cane bagasse as evaluated by means of a two factors replicated factorial designo It is was observed that inside the new prototype biomass develope a favorable tension structure pattem that allows a steady discharge flow of polydispersed biomass. This work states the influence of the height of biomass discharge flow / Mestrado / Planejamento de Sistemas Energeticos / Mestre em Engenharia Mecânica

The degree of moisture of equilibrium is very important drying and storage of agricultural products. During the present research the degree of moisture equilibrium was determined for soybean, corn and rice of equatorial varieties. Critical periods for storage were calculated based on the degree of moisture of equilibrium and climatic data for the seven locations which omprise the storage network in Ecuador. Drying costs for the three crops were calculated for humidities between the initial value of 2 5% to up to the commended final humidity for each crop. Maximum permissible storage time for rice, corn and soybean was calculated based on climatic conditions prevalent on those seven locations / Mestrado / Mestre em Tecnologia de Alimentos

Some physical characteristics and exposure loss estimates of pea vine silage in a horizontal siloCampbell, William Earl January 1959 (has links)
Reports of large losses from exposed horizontal silos under high fall and winter rainfall were investigated by field observation on a full scale test silo. Density, dry matter, permeability and some proximate analyses of the silage are tabulated. Observed dry matter losses in order of magnitude are fermentation losses, sub surface losses, surface losses, and losses in runoff and effluent liquids. The value of these losses was computed. The best method of reducing the storage losses was a plastic sheet laid over the silage immediately after filling and packing. / Applied Science, Faculty of / Chemical and Biological Engineering, Department of / Graduate

Circular and rectangular folk silos in the Andes of Southern BoliviaKent, Robert B. 10 April 2018 (has links)
This paper documents the presence, characteristics, and distribution of folk silos (crop storage structures) in the southern portion of the department of Cochabamba, Bolivia. Known locally as trojes or silos, these silos are constructed in circular and rectangular plans from adobe and local plant materials. Circular silos are used primarily to store com, while a wider variety of crops, including potatoes, peanuts, wheat, and barley are stored in the rectangular silos. A review of the literature on crop storage structures in the Andean region suggests that the design and use of these present-day silos is likely of Inca origin.
