Rugosidade em Bilhares ClÃssicos / Rugosity in Classical Billiards

JoÃo Paulo da Costa Nogueira 02 August 2016 (has links)
In this work we are going to study a physical system known as billiard. A billiard is defined to be basically a confined particle in a closed region of the space. We are going to deal with only two-dimensionals billiards in the absence of extern fields and to neglect any kind of dissipative forces, in a way that the colisions of the particle with the boundary are elastics. Beyond that, the boundary are fixed, it means they respect an equation of kind $R(r, heta)$, where $r$ and $ heta$ are the polar coordinates on a plan. A billiard is a very interesting model by several reasons. First, it is a simple system (it has a few degree of freedom) and it is of easy visualization. However, it has a non-trivial dynamics with a big richness of behaviors (from a billiard it could appear regular behavior, chaotic behavior, or even a mixed behavior, where coexist in the phase space of one billiard chaotics and regular regions). Second, the numerical approach of these systems does not require numerical integration of diferential equations and, therefore, does not take too much time of execution. Furthermore, the billiards allow us to perform investigations of fundamental nature, for example, we can study how regular systems react by being slightly disturbed. Especificaly, we perform a rugosity perturbation on the billiard surface and observe how the phase space is going to change.

Mathematical model based on fuzzy logic for variables treatment and context evaluation of dynamic systems.

Machado, Bruno Pimentel 12 April 2016 (has links)
The research presents an adaptation of the mathematical model of fuzzy logic. The adaptation is an alternative capable of representing the behavior of a subjective variable over an interval of time, as well as treating any static variables (as existing computer models). Research conducted points to a gap in the treatment of dynamic variables (variables which depend on time). The context, in which the variable is embedded, plays a role in the understanding and decision making process of problems of this nature. Existing computer models treat the temporal issue as sequencing of events or cost, without considering the influence of passed occurrences in its current condition, unlike the proposed model that allows a contribution of earlier developments in the understanding and treatment of the current state. The proposed solution is applicable to determine the comfort level at public transportation or to support the risk definition at the stock market, just to list a couple of examples. On both scenarios, the existing fuzzy logic was compared to the proposed solution and it was observed differences on the outcomes that represent an increase on the overall quality of the information which supports the decision making process.

Estudo das Propriedades de Bilhares na PresenÃa de Campos Externos / Study of the Properties of Billiards in the Presence of External Fields

Francisco Nailson Farias de Vasconcelos 25 January 2017 (has links)
The study of the chaotic properties of some complex systems has been largely developed from the technological advancement provided by computers. Among these systems, we can highlight the billiards, which, due to their simplicity and enormous applicability, they have stood out among the other models. In this work, we study the properties of some billiards, when subject to the action of an external field. Here the external field is represented by a velocity field, wich is obtained from the flow of a fluid. Such fluid exerts a drag force on the particle bounded by the boundary defining the billiard. In contrast to the other works done with billiards, we propose a totally numerical approach, taking into account several factors that could exercise influence on the particle dynamics, such as the elastic force that the particle suffers when it collides with the boundary, the outflow regime of the fluid, and the drag effect on the trajectory of the particle, caused by a force that is proportional to a potential of the velocity in the form F ∝ v γ . From this aproach we could observe a decay on the energy of the particle, which occurred in a linear form (γ= 1.0), polynomial of the second degree (γ = 1.5) and exponential (γ = 2.0). Moreover, as we analyzed the phase space of the systems (billiards), the effect of the dissipation parameter contributed to the emerging of a sea of chaos in some cases, and also to the appearance of an attractor, whose effect also originates from the action of the external field.

Regional Models and Minimal Learning Machines for Nonlinear Dynamical System Identification / Regional models and Minimal Learning Machines for nonlinear dynamical system identification

Amauri Holanda de Souza JÃnior 31 October 2014 (has links)
This thesis addresses the problem of identifying nonlinear dynamic systems from a machine learning perspective. In this context, very little is assumed to be known about the system under investigation, and the only source of information comes from input/output measurements on the system. It corresponds to the black-box modeling approach. Numerous strategies and models have been proposed over the last decades in the machine learning field and applied to modeling tasks in a straightforward way. Despite of this variety, the methods can be roughly categorized into global and local modeling approaches. Global modeling consists in fitting a single regression model to the available data, using the whole set of input and output observations. On the other side of the spectrum stands the local modeling approach, in which the input space is segmented into several small partitions and a specialized regression model is fit to each partition. The first contribution of the thesis is a novel supervised global learning model, the Minimal Learning Machine (MLM). Learning in MLM consists in building a linear mapping between input and output distance matrices and then estimating the nonlinear response from the geometrical configuration of the output points. Given its general formulation, the Minimal Learning Machine is inherently capable of operating on nonlinear regression problems as well as on multidimensional response spaces. Naturally, its characteristics make the MLM able to tackle the system modeling problem. The second significant contribution of the thesis represents a different modeling paradigm, called Regional Modeling (RM), and it is motivated by the parsimonious principle. Regional models stand between the global and local modeling approaches. The proposal consists of a two-level clustering approach in which we first partition the input space using the Self-Organizing Map (SOM), and then perform clustering over the prototypes of the trained SOM. After that, regression models are built over the clusters of SOM prototypes, or regions in the input space. Even though the proposals of the thesis can be thought as quite general regression or supervised learning models, the performance assessment is carried out in the context of system identification. Comprehensive performance evaluation of the proposed models on synthetic and real-world datasets is carried out and the results compared to those achieved by standard global and local models. The experiments illustrate that the proposed methods achieve accuracies that are comparable to, and even better than, more traditional machine learning methods thus offering a valid alternative to such approaches. / This thesis addresses the problem of identifying nonlinear dynamic systems from a machine learning perspective. DissipaÃÃo no Modelo Fermi-Ulam

Danila Fernandes Tavares de Sousa 17 February 2012 (has links)

A metÃfora e a metonÃmia sob a perspectiva dos sistemas dinÃmicos complexos e da teoria fractal no processo de conceitualizaÃÃo da violÃncia urbana na cidade de Fortaleza-CE / The metaphor and metonymy from the perspective of the complex dynamical systems and fractal theory in the conceptualization process of urban violence in the city of Fortaleza

Pedro Jorge da Silva Marques 27 February 2014 (has links)
The metaphor has always occupied an important place in meaning studies and with the advances on Cognitive Linguistics researches this figure presents itself more evident when put in relation with metonym, which has less importance on academic researches. In this context, this very work aims: (i) establish the primacy of metonym over metaphor by the dynamic discourse analysis of focal group participants when discussing urban violence in the city of Fortaleza; (ii) verify if the metonymic relations appear both in context and wording; and (iii) demonstrate that metonyms are responsible for the emerging of great part of metaphorical vehicles, so important to the construction of meaning. Thus, it was necessary to discuss the main approaches of these phenomena in light of Complex Dynamic Systems theory, anchored on Larsen-Freeman (1997); Larsen-Freeman e Cameron (2008), on fractal theory, based in Paiva (2010) e Mandelbrot (1982), as Capra (2006). This theoretical reference served as base to verify the hypothesis that great part of metaphors emerge from metonyms and that the relations contribute to the emerging of that both contextual and wording levels arise fragmented in the real discourse of focal group participants. Furthermore, the research proposes itself to also describe the process of conceptualization of urban violence based in the criteria of complexity paradigm, showing its importance to the current researches. To give consistency to that discussion we based ourselves in authors such as Goosens (1990, 1995), Barcelona (1997) and Radden (2003), who also discuss the complex relation between metaphor and metonym. Our study is ruled by a qualitative and theoretical research that allows us to reflect about the primacy of metonym over metaphor, analyzing the transcription of three focal groups that discussed the urban violence in the city of Fortaleza. The analysis allowed until this moment the ascertainment that in some cases, in the process of conceptualization, the metaphor arises from metonym, as relations that structure metonym, such as take a tree for a forest, institution for its responsible ones, effect by cause, permeate both wording and context of the discussion of the focal group participants. This made us come to the conclusion that a series of metaphors come from metonyms, what shows that although metaphor and metonym interact themselves, there is a primacy of the second over the first in some cases.

Leis de escala em mapeamentos discretos / Scaling Laws in Discrete Mappings

Rivania Maria do Nascimento Teixeira 08 April 2016 (has links)
In this work we are going to investigate the scale formalism in discret mappings. In 1D mappings, we explore the asymptotic decays to the steady state with focus in three types of bifurcation: transcriptical, pitchfork and period-doubling. We identify this behavior through a well defined generalized homogeneous function with critical exponents. Next to the bifurcation point, the decay to the fix point occurs by an exponential function, which is given by a power law that is independent of the non-linearity mapping. The numerical results obtained agree with the analytical results. We also apply the scale formalism in conservatives and dissipatives bidimensional mappings. In the conservative case, our goal was analyze the behavior of the chaotics orbits next to the phase transition from the integrable to the non-integrable. Next to that transition, we describe the dynamical system using a generalized homogeneous function for which we found a power law that describe the behavior of the criticality. Through a phenomenological discussion, we found critical exponents in agree with the analytical description. In the dissipative case, our main goal was to investigate the influence of a dissipative term in the dynamics, causing a phase transition - suppression of unlimited difusion of the action variable. Following a phenomenological approach with an analytical description, we were able to determine the critical exponents using a generalized homogeneous function.
