Application of DMAIC to integrate Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma

Stephen, Philip 29 June 2004 (has links)
The slow rate of corporate improvement is not due to lack of knowledge of six sigma or lean. Rather, the fault lies in making the transition from theory to implementation. Managers need a step-by-step, unambiguous roadmap of improvement that leads to predictable results. This roadmap provides the self-confidence, punch, and power necessary for action and is the principal subject of this research. Unique to this research is the way the integration of lean and six sigma is achieved; by way of an integration matrix formed by lean implementation protocols and six sigma project phases. This integration matrix is made more prescriptive by an integrated leanness assessment tool, which will guide the user given their existing level of implementation and integration. Further guidance in each of the cells formed by the integration matrix is provided by way of phase methodologies and statistical/non-statistical tools. The output of this research is a software tool that could be used in facilities at any stage of lean implementation, including facilities with no existing lean implementation. The developed software tool has the capability to communicate among current and former project teams within any group, division, or facility in the organization. The developed software tool has also the capability to do data analysis (Example: Design of Experiments, Value Stream Mapping, Multi-Vari Analysis etc.). By way of the integration matrix, leanness assessment and the data analysis capability, the developed software tool will give managers a powerful tool that will help in their quest to achieve lean six sigma. / Master of Science

The harmonic idiom in the works of 'les six'

Bobbitt, Richard January 1963 (has links)
Thesis (Ph.D.)--Boston University / This study presents a descriptive outline of the principal harmonic devices employed by Darius Millhard, Arthur Honegger, Francis Poulenc, Georges Auric, Germaine, Tailleferre, and Louis Durey. The emphasis is upon the particular techniques peculiar to each composer. In addition, all the characteristic mechanisms pertaining to the composer's harmonic idiom, per se, are isolated - i.e. technical analyses include those pertinent factors surrounding the usage of harmony as well as elements intrinsically peculiar to harmonic structure alone. The attempt is then made to relate the devices of the harmonic idiom to the significant movements in music at the time Les Six were producing most prolifically as a group. The role played by polyharmony, for example, in the trend towards privitism and divionism; or the relation of polymodalit to the general movement towards superposition, which was characteristic of the arts in the first quarter of the twentieth century. Investigation of microwave imaging and local dielectric characterization of materials by using a homemade interferometer-based near-field microwave microscope / Imagerie micro-onde et caractérisation diélectrique locale de matériaux à l’aide d’un microscope hyperfréquence à champ proche basé sur un procédé d’interférométrie

Lin, Tianjun 26 April 2018 (has links)
Near-field microwave microscopes, which belong to the local scanning probe microscopes family, are considered today as advanced characterization tools in many applications areas including physics, biology and micro and nanotechnologies. The near-field microwave microscope that is used in the work and described in this manuscript is an instrument developed at IEMN owning a great sensitivity in a wide operating frequency band [2-18 GHz]. The potential of the microscope in terms of applications is demonstrated through the characterization of liquids with different modalities of characterization (probe in contact, non-contact and immersed in a liquid). In particular, this instrument is investigated for dielectric spectroscopy of aqueous glucose solutions. This characterization tool that offers sub-wavelength imaging capability is also tested in different situations (surface and subsurface imaging). Imaging resolution and measurement accuracy are evaluated and easily implementable processing methods are proposed to improve the quality of imaging. Finally, a solution towards a larger compactness of the instrument is investigated through the replacement of the network analyzer by a more compact device (six-port reflectometer type).

A Model for Management Aboard Medium and High Endurance Coast Guard Cutters

Stewart, Michael S. 01 January 2009 (has links)
Increased DHS mission requirements in a post 911 operating environment and federal mandates requiring measurable results dictate commanders of USCG Cutters and the chain of command employ the most efficient management mechanisms to best utilize scarce resources. United States Coast Guard Cutters have been challenged in a multi-mission environment to meet requirements including search and rescue, law enforcement, fisheries management, recreational boating safety, hurricane avoidance and response, and homeland security missions. The Commanding officers of U.S. Coast Guard Cutters are consummate process owners that require the most efficient and dynamic management model to best meet internal and external customers in an ever-changing operating environment.

A study on underactuated six-bar human-like robotic hand

Wu, Chih-wei 09 August 2007 (has links)
Abstract In the early days, designer emphasized that human-like robotic hands should have high degree of freedoms(DOFs) and fully simulate all motions of human hands. It makes the system to be too expensive and complex. In recent years, the performance of grasp is no longer depend on the DOFs only after the concept of underactuated is applied. In this article, we discussed the designs and mechanisms of robotic hands and the design principle of underactuated. The SYS-1 underactuated human-like robotic hand uses only six actuator to control ten DOFs, the fingers of SYS-1 consist of underactuated six-bar linkage that simulate human¡¦s fingers motion. The ejection effect is also well controlled. Every finger is an independent module and can be separate or deploy according to the needs. The conduit-tendon system let SYS-1 can work in the water or high temperature environment without any damage. We also analysis the motion characteristic and grasp performance of SYS-1 and compare to the other similar designs.
