Library is an important link in the process of teaching and learning at all educational levels present in student life from kindergarten to post-doctorate. For centuries the services offered by the libraries were confined to their physical facilities. However, the technological revolution started in the twentieth century expanded the geographic scope of the library out of its facilities, especially after the popularization of social networking tools. In this context, the present work aims to propose the use of social networking tools in the Libraries of the CEFET/RJ aimed at improving communication and the quality of services provided to the entire academic community. To achieve this objective questionnaires and interviews were conducted with all the heads of the eight libraries that make up the system of CEFET/RJ libraries. The results demonstrate that the use of social networks is incipient for several reasons. Proposals to encourage the use of social networks have been presented since the establishment of minimum requirements for the internet connection to the training of librarians (them). Social networks can bring greater visibility to the library system of the CEFET/RJ which can increase the interaction with the entire academic community and surrounding units contributing positively to the social role that the CEFET/RJ already done. The impact of such points can be explored in future work.
