Extended Techniques in Stanley Friedman's Solus for Unaccompanied TrumpetMeredith, Scott 05 1900 (has links)
This document examines the technical execution of extended techniques incorporated in the musical structure of Solus, and explores the benefits of introducing the work into the curriculum of a college level trumpet studio. Compositional style, form, technical accessibility, and pedagogical benefits are investigated in each of the four movements. An interview with the composer forms the foundation for the history of the composition as well as the genesis of some of the extended techniques and programmatic ideas.

Stanley Friedman’s Solus for trumpet unaccompanied : A study of learning and approaching the extended trumpet techniques in Stanley Friedman’s Solus.Linnet, Ingibjörg Ragnheidur January 2022 (has links)
The purpose of the study was to figure out a good and an effective way to learn how to master extended trumpet techniques in order to be able to play the piece Solus (1975) by Stanley Friedman (b. 1951) for unaccompanied solo trumpet. To gain a deeper understanding of the composer’s intentions, the study also includes a music analysis of Solus. Various methodological approaches were used: sheet music and performance instructions, own practice, digital tools, recordings, literature and trumpet method books. The results of the study indicate that five different extended trumpet techniques were identified and analysed. They were slide glissandi, flutter tongue, pedal tones, singing and open trigger. For slide glissandi, it was important to separate the technique into smaller portions, to first practice without glissandi in order to embody the music and then practice glissandi separately. For flutter tongue, airflow and a relaxed tongue were essential. Pedal tones require time to master and using trumpet method books was a great way to improve the pedal register. For singing in the third movement of Solus, it was useful to practice singing and even screaming, both in private and in front of an audience. The open trigger technique was mastered by practicing with a drone, using digital tools, and to practice playing the open trigger notes with open fingerings. It was very rewarding to master the extended trumpet techniques in the piece Solus and it will be of great use for any performer.

Vytvoření BI procesu dávky pro sdružení SOLUS v retailové bance / Creation of BI batch process for SOLUS in the retail bankFara, Miroslav January 2012 (has links)
The thesis focuses on the batch processing of bank (retail bank) client data for SOLUS. The main goal of the thesis is to create a batch process that will generate files (monthly report) about clients of one of the bank companies operating in the Czech market (retail banks), according to requirements pre-defined by SOLUS. This will be achieved by analyzing the requirements, designing the pilot solution, and by creating and implementing the batch process for SOLUS. The main contribution of this thesis is a working BI process which will store the data in the required format to the data warehouse. By implementing this process the retail bank can use the data from the register that have been saved to this place by other member organizations which participate in creating SOLUS. The data analysis from the registry can help the retail banks to get detailed information about clients applying for products of the respective bank and will facilitate the decision making during the approval process. The solution of batch report generation for SOLUS has been created by using the tools MS SQL Server 2008 R2 Management Studio, MS SQL Server 2008 R2 Business Intelligence Development Studio, and MS Excel 2010. In this project the data from internal databases of retail bank are analyzed. In order to comply with the rules for information security and data sensitivity, it is not possible to use a large amount of information from internal databases for the purposes of this thesis, but it is possible to clearly demonstrate the functioning of the whole process.

Studying abroad : Does experiencing more educational systems help trumpet players to become artists from musicians?Mészáros, Tamás Endre January 2024 (has links)
The idea of this artistic research project came from the desire to have a closer look into my own education as a classical trumpeter. The main goal of the work is to try to find an answer whether studying abroad is worth it or not in order to gain musical experience, musical knowledge and to become an artist. I, who have experienced three different educational systems, have involved into my research two single-country educated candidates from two European countries. I compare myself with them from the musical perspective. My aim is to shed light on whether more educational systems produce a different musical outcome than studying within a single education system. The research was made entirely in Stockholm, Sweden, with the help of electrical devices for recordings and interviews which can hopefully give an insight, not only for trumpet players, but also for many other people in the music world.
