No. of bitstreams: 1 2012_AnaLuisaPereiraMaldonado.pdf: 16636700 bytes, checksum: 6256a0305b50e80f76cdf9c60239e421 (MD5) / O presente trabalho tem tres objetivos principais. _______________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT / This work has three main objectives. The first one is to understand the modalnature of tonal sound generation and propagation in fans, by presenting an integratedreview of fan mode generation and propagation theory. The second one is to simulatethe cascade-gust interaction problem proposed in the Fourth CAA Workshop onBenchmark Problems and to validate the numerical results obtained using the VirtualAeroacoustic Tunnel (VAT) code, based on a high order immersed boundary methodproposed by the Computational Aeroacoustics Laboratory (CAALab) of the Universityof Brasilia. The results obtained in this two dimensional benchmark for the pressureand axial-velocity uctuations, as well as the overall sound pressure levels, are presentedfor the rst, second and third harmonics of the bladepassing frequency. Thethird objective of this work is to develop and validate a numerical methodology thatis able to predict the noise generation and propagation in actual fans. This numericalmethodology is implemented in the simulation tool PowerFLOW, based on theLattice-Boltzmann method and the numerical results obtained are validated by comparisonwith the high quality experimental results made available for the AdvancedNoise Control Fan (ANCF) by the Aeroacoustics Branch of NASA Glenn ResearchCenter. The numerical and experimental results show the same dominant spinningmode, both in accordance with the fan mode generation and propagation theory. Also, the SPL spectra of the numerical results are compared with the experimental measurementsat 7 farfield probes: 3 located in the forward arc and 4 located in the aft arcof the ANCF. Since the experimental and numerical data are compared at 7 di_erentlocations for the rst and second harmonics of the blade-passing frequency, a total of14 comparison points are generated and for almost 2/3 of these points the error magnitudeis less than 3 dB. These comparisons show a very good agreement between thenumerical and experimental results, validating the numerical methodology proposed inthis work for the for tonal noise prediction in fans.

The figurative use of "son(s) of" in the New Testament

Born, Daniel Ferris 27 October 2016 (has links)
Daniel Ferris Born, Ph.D. The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, 2016 Chair: Dr. William F. Cook The figurative use of "son(s) of" phrases in the NT represents the author employing the father-son relationship, and what this relationship represents in the ancient world, as a tool to illustrate and explain various concepts and ideas in NT thought. As a result, the father-son relationship in the ancient world must be employed in the interpretation of these figurative "son(s) of" phrases. Failing to understand the importance of genealogical identification, kinship, and the social implications of the father-son relationship in the ancient world and bring these concepts to bear in interpretation, will result in a failure to understand what the NT authors seek to communicate by using "son(s) of" phrases. Chapter 1 provides an introduction to this topic and a history of how linguists and commentators have approached these phrases in the past. There are very few scholars who have sought to employ the father-son relationship in their interpretation of these phrases and their figurative use. Chapters 2 and 3 survey the use of these phrases inside and outside the NT. Chapter 2 includes the use of בֵּן in the Hebrew Bible, "son(s) of" phrases in the LXX, as well as the use of υἱός plus the genitive in Classical Greek, the OT and NT apocrypha and pseudepigrapha, other early Jewish and Christian writings, coins and inscriptions, and the papyri and ostraca. Chapter 3 surveys the use of υἱός in the NT. Chapter 4 explores the father-son relationship in the social context of the NT in order to distill the major features of the father-son relationship into an interpretive framework which can be utilized in understanding what the NT authors seek to communicate in their figurative use of "son(s) of" phrases. Chapter 5 employs this framework in the interpretation of the figurative "son(s) of" phrases in the NT. Chapter 6 concludes the work, discusses its implications, and recognizes the need for further study in certain areas.
