Impact of IT on the Role of a Community of Practice Moderator in the Coalescing Stage of Development

Piepkorn, Farnaz Barvarz 01 January 2011 (has links)
This dissertation uses case study research to evaluate the impact of Information Technology (IT) on the moderator's role in directing a community of practice (CoP) in its Coalescing stage of development. Ten CoPs were studied. While each of these CoPs is in a different stage of development, the analysis focuses on the Coalescing stage because it is considered the most critical. A detailed case study of each CoP, including a survey of moderators and members, and interviews with moderators is presented. Analysis of these cases indicated that use of IT -- defined as communication, software, and hardware tools -- has a reciprocal effect on the role of the moderator. In other words, a moderator can achieve CoP goals and conduct its activities more efficiently and effectively by use of various IT tools. A moderator's competence and inclination to using IT tools also affects his or her role and the way he or she conducts the activities and plans to achieve the CoP goals. Those moderators who used IT tools to conduct their CoP's activities perceived their CoPs to be more successful than those who did not. Other factors such as company support, moderator's position and influence in the company, and the resources available to the CoP were the deciding factors on the moderator's role in facilitating a successful CoP. This dissertation concludes with a list of future research possibilities, obstacles to moderators, and improvement opportunities for large companies with several CoPs. All of the research studies on communities of practice so far have assumed that each company has only one CoP. This dissertation not only provides insight to a company with various CoPs, but it also offers a comparison study among different CoPs within the same company.

Vývojové fáze podniků v sektoru C - Zpracovatelský průmysl / Stage of development for companies in the sector C - Manufacturing

JUNGBAUEROVÁ, Jana January 2015 (has links)
The thesis discusses the various life stages of enterprise and indicators that characterize their different stages. The development of the company can be likened to natural organisms, businesses over time, undergo changes similar to all living organisms. The company is first born, continues to grow, mature, in later stage performance decreases, and eventually leads to extinction. Analyzed enterprises were engaged in the manufacture of food products, employed at least one worker and were doing business continuously from 2008 to 2013. The ultimate goal was to classify individual businesses into specific phases of development: formation, growth, stabilization, maturation, decline and extinction. Breakdown into various life stages was based on three methods. The first method examined developments in terms of sales for each company and compared it with the industry average. The second procedure was stricter, setting out the order of enterprises through the development of the three criteria. Third method chose only examples of companies which results of selected financial indicators best characterize a particular stage of development. According to the first two methods, most enterprises from the entire population are in the growth stage, least companies are at the stage of extinction.

Disserta??o (Mestrado) ? Programa de P?s-Gradua??o em Ci?ncia Florestal, Universidade Federal dos Vales do Jequitinhonha e Mucuri, 2017. / The aim of this study was to describe the morphology and biometric aspects of the fruit and seed, the morphofunctional characteristics and development of the seedling, and to obtain the classification the storage capacity of the seeds of Richeria grandis Vahl. It was also verified the influence of different compositions of substrates and levels of solar reduction under the emergence of seedlings and growth of seedlings via sexual propagation and the viability of the technique of minicache in the asexual propagation of R. grandis, submitted to different concentrations of the regulator of indolebutyric acid (IBA) growth. Seed collection occurred in 18 matrix trees established in flooded Forest Mills located in Biribiri State Park, Diamantina, MG, and all experiments were conducted in Forest Nursery and Seed Laboratory belonging to the Integrated Center for the Propagation of Forest Species ( CIPEF-UFVJM). The morphological and biometric characterization of fruits and seeds was by naked eye observations and measurements using a universal caliper. In order to observe the physiological behavior, freshly harvested seeds of this species were stored in paper bags in the open air and germinated and tested (%) periodically. The morphofunctional characteristics were observed in the laboratory and in the greenhouse by means of a developmental process (from root protrusion, emergence until the first protophyte). Three compositions of substrates and three levels of shading were used to test the effect of these combinations on the quality of R. grandis young seedlings. The height, collection diameter, number of leaves , total chlorophyll and dry biomass. Finally, the base of apical cuttings from young saplings rescued in the natural environment of R. grandis, were emerged in four concentrations of IBA and evaluated at 90 days, measuring the increase in height and diameter, survival (%), rooting (% ), calogenia (%) and sprouts (%). It should be noted that for all experiments, the basic principles of experimentation (repetition, randomization and local control) were met using different experimental designs. Different tools for statistical analysis were also used to aid in decision making. The fruit of R. grandis is simple, dry, capsule type, dehiscent, with an average length of 16.24 mm and an average width of 8.57 mm. The seed is ellipsoid with presence of sarcotesta, presenting an average length of 7.40 mm and an average width of 4.57 mm. R. grandis presents recalcitrant seeds, the emergence is of the Fanero-epigene-foliaceous type, and the development process for the seed becomes a complete seedling delonged for at least 50 days. The substrates composed of different proportions of vermiculite, rice husk and Bioplant ?, associated with shading 30 and 50% were responsible for promoting R. grandis seedlings of better quality. The technique of vegetative propagation by minicutting is feasible, since there was a 100% survival and a high percentage of rooting even for the treatment without addition of AIB.

From the nutritional point of view, they are very demanding in nitrogen and to supply its demand both species are able Biological Nitrogen Fixation (BNF). However, for the BNF, rhizobia require energy supply by the carbohydrates from photosynthesis. For this reason the availability of fotossintato is the biggest limiting factor in BNF. This work had as propose to evaluate the influence of inoculation with rhizobia in two phenological stages of plants under different levels of shading. In this context the inoculation was assessed by the following treatments: two species of legume (Phaseolus vulgaris, L. and Glycine max, L.) inoculated and not inoculated (Fi, Fni, Si and Sni) with specific strains (Rhizobium tropici and Bradyrhizobium japonicum and B. elkanii) in two phenological stages (before, Ep1, and after flowering, Ep2) and subjected to three shadow levels (no shade, 70% and 80% of shade). The experimental design was completely randomized in four replicates on the experiments 1, 2, 3 and 4 conducted in a greenhouse and three replicates for the experiments 5, 6, 7 and 8 in the external environment to a greenhouse. In experiments 1 and 3, both species have continued forming nodules after flowering, the plants of these treatments Fni Ep2, Sni Ep2 and Si Ep2 had the highest average for the number, volume, fresh weight and dry weight of nodules. As the activity of the nodules, the plants of treatments Fi Ep1 and Si Ep1 had the highest number of active nodules compared to treatments Fni Ep2 and Sni Ep2. Assessing the effect of shading in experiments 2 and 4, it was found that bean and soybean plants have behaved differently. The shading of 80% favored the formation of nodules in inoculated bean deferring between treatments of shading, in contrast to the soybean plants that there was no difference (p ≥ 0.05) among treatments. There was no statistical difference between treatments in the number of active nodes for the beans; the plants of the Sni treatment 80% had the lowest number of active nodules compared to the plants of treatment Si 0%. In experiments 5 and 7 plants of soybeans and reduced the number of nodules after flowering, and as in Experiment 1 and 3 there was a higher number of active nodes during the growing season compared to the reproductive period. The shading applied in bean plants (Experiment 6) was not enough to cause no difference between treatments on the number and activity of nodules; in the experiment with 8 soybean, the shading changed patterns of nodulation and activity of nodules (p ≥ 0.05). It is this work that the formation and maintenance of activity of the nodules were so distinct in vegetative and reproductive stages, but the shading of 70 and 80% applied was not sufficient to cause significant change in activity of the nodules, suggesting that the reduction the availability of fotossintatos is not the limiting factor in determining the efficiency of N, mainly in the bean / A soja e o feijão são leguminosas de grande importância econômica e social para o Brasil.
