The impact of open or proprietary strategy to standard competition in software industry ¢w Linux vs. Windows

Lin, Kuo-fan 18 August 2006 (has links)
This study is to develop a standard competition model base on the Network Theory. And according to the case study about the operation system competition between ¡§Linux and Windows¡¨ to discuss the influence of ¡§open¡¨ and ¡§proprietary¡¨ strategy on the standard competition. The conclusions of this study are presented as follows: 1.All competitors of standard competition have to face the ¡§competition within the single technical network¡¨ and the ¡§competition between different technical networks¡¨. And those two competitions maybe happens simultaneously. 2.In the competition within the single technical network, the most important task to the competitor is to build up ¡§key network position¡¨. And the most important task to the competition between different technical networks is to make the connection between network members more rigidly, and that will makes the whole network become more competitive. 3.Strategy that more open is better to the ¡§competition within the single technical network¡¨. And strategy that more proprietary is better to the ¡§competition between different technical networks¡¨. And the optimal level of open or proprietary strategy depends on different situations.

An OTP ROM Using a Standard Logic CMOS Process and The Application In a DDFS Implementation

Jhuang, Guo-Lin 16 July 2007 (has links)
The first topic of this thesis presents a one-time programmable (OTP) ROM using a standard logic CMOS process. A high voltage is applied to the gate-oxide to breakdown the MOS in the ROM-cell. It results in a low resistance compared to that of unprogrammed cells. Therefore, we can realize an OTP ROM with this characteristic on a CMOS logic ASIC or SOC. The second topic is a DDFS (Direct Digital Frequency Synthesizer) implementation. A straight-line approximation algorithm for sinusoid with compensation is adopted in the proposed DDFS such that the accuracy could be maintained and the cost is reduced. Most important of all, the proposed CMOS OTP ROM is employed as the sinusoidal look-up ROM table to simplify the ROM fabrication without any additional process step.

Two phase mixing comparison, oil contamination comparison and manufacturing accuracy effect on calibration of slotted orifice meters

Sparks, Sara A. 15 November 2004 (has links)
In previous studies the slotted orifice plate has demonstrated superior performance characteristics to those of the standard orifice plate. In this study, these comparisons are investigated further. The response characteristics of the slotted orifice plate to the standard orifice plate and V-Cone for two-phase flows of water and air at various qualities, flow rates, and pressures are shown visually. The effect of oil as it flows through a slotted orifice plate and standard orifice plate are visually documented. The effect of manufacturing accuracy on the slotted orifice plates is investigated as to the effect on the coefficient of discharge, percent change in pressure, and Reynolds number. The slotted orifice plate mixes two-phase flow better than the standard orifice plate and V-Cone. There is a manufacturing effect on the slotted orifice plates; the larger the area of the slots, the larger the discharge coefficient.
