Personality, state-trait anxiety and admission to university in preuniversity students / Personalidad, ansiedad estado-rasgo e ingreso a la universidad en alumnos preuniversitarios

Niño de Guzmán, Isabel, Calderón, Arturo, Escalante, Marisa, Lira, Tula, Morote, Roxana, Ruda Santolaria, María Lourdes 25 September 2017 (has links)
This correlational study identifies personality dimensions, type of anxiety and sociodemographic characteristics of students from a preuniversity center. 1t was conducted with 318 participants of both sexes (43.8% female and 56.2% male) whose ages range from 15 to 19 years old. They were assessed with the following instruments: Costa and McCrae's Persona1ity lnventory NEO PI-R (1992), Spielberger's State-Trait Anxiety lnventory (STAI, 1975) and tutors' reports. Results confirm the presence of a basic factor structure of five dimensions: Likewise, they also reveal significant correlations among Intellectual Quotient (IQ). personality characteristics related to Conscientiousness factor and admission to university. Self-discipline stands out among the facets that correlate with admission. Finally, results are discussed.

Časová perspektiva a úzkost / Time perspective and anxiety

Chvojková, Iveta January 2021 (has links)
This thesis deals with the concept of time perspective with relation to anxiety. In the theoretical part, the terms of state anxiety, trait anxiety and anxiety disorders are defined. Furthermore, a space is dedicated to self-regulatory mechanisms. To give a holistic view, possible positives and benefits of anxiety in general are outlined as well. Moreover, the concept of time perspective, approaches to its measurement and linkage to experience and behaviour of individuals are presented. Subsequently, relationships between anxiety and time perspective are discussed. Last chapter of the theoretical part focuses on possible time perspective interventions for anxious individuals. The empirical part aims at discovering relationships between the concept of time perspective and state anxiety. For this purpose, the data obtained were analysed using a questionnaire survey conducted on a sample of respondents aged in early and middle adulthood. The questionnaire battery consisted of a section gathering demographic information, STAI questionnaire measuring both state and trait anxiety and a shortened version of the ZTPI - short extended by negative future perspective. The results of our research showed a significant positive relationship between anxiety and following time perspectives: negative past and...

[en] EFFECTS OF A BENZODIAZEPINE MIDAZOLAM IN THE ELEVATED PLUS MAZE STRAINS OF RATS WITH HIGH AND LOW LEVELS OF ANXIETY / [pt] EFEITOS DO BENZODIAZEPÍNICO MIDAZOLAM NO LABIRINTO EM CRUZ ELEVADO EM LINHAGENS DE RATOS COM TRAÇOS ALTOS OU BAIXOS DE ANSIEDADE

DANIELE RODRIGUES CAVALIERE 29 January 2019 (has links)
[en] Although several animal models are used to test and screen anxiolytic and anxiogenic-like drug effects, relatively few studies have examined the effects of pharmacological manipulations in genetically selected animals for behavioral phenotypic traits more directly related to specific anxiety disorders in humans. The present study investigated the effects of a benzodiazepine midazolam in the elevated plus-maze (EPM) in two rat lines which have been selectively bred in our laboratory for high (Cariocas High-Freezing, CHF) or low (Cariocas Low-Freezing, CLF) anxiety-like traits. After being their contextual freezing response registered and compared, animals from the 24th, 25th and 26th generations of these two rat lines were exposed to the EPM under the effects of intraperitoneal injections (1.0 ml/kg) of either vehiclesaline (0.9 per cent) or midazolam in the doses of 0.25, 0.5 and 0.75. When injected with saline, CHF and CLF animals showed higher and lower anxiety-like parameters, respectively, as compared to control-animals randomly selected. Midazolam similarly increased open-arm exploration in all groups, although this anxiolytic-like effect in CLF animals only occurred at the lowest drug dose (0.25 mg/kg). These results indicate that the anxiety-like traits previously selected for high or low contextual freezing responses are also phenotypically expressed in behavioral patterns of exploration in the EPM. The usefulness of these two rat lines to model generalized anxiety disorder and screen new putative anxiolytic drug effects is explored.
