Death situations in the short story : a study in structure

Ruthrof, Horst January 1968 (has links)
In an article on Ernst Cassirer, Konstantin Reichardt says, Since form is the only rational factor of every art, and the form of each art manifests a specific order, 'the order and form of the arts are to be investigated, if we want to examine the artist's imagination at work and the architecture of the world of art. It is the aim of this thesis to cast some light on a small, yet beautiful building within the complex architecture of this world of art, the genre of the short story. To isolate its structural and generic characteristics in general, however, would entail an analytical investigation into a huge number of short stcries, a task too great to be tackled in a thesis. Intro., p. 8.

LATE AFTERNOON AND FIVE UNSPOKEN STORIES

The thesis consists of a novella and five short stories, all narrated from the perspective of a mute diasporic narrator who chronicles several returns to a nameless Caribbean village. Against a rich intertextual backdrop, these texts predominantly explore issues of mutism, the relationship between language and a sense of place, intricacies of translation, and the orality-literacy spectrum. / Includes bibliography. / Thesis (MFA)--Florida Atlantic University, 2021. / FAU Electronic Theses and Dissertations Collection

Unknown Date (has links)
"Since the public's general attitudes and ideas concerning a professor are influenced to some extent by what they read in the realm of fiction and because there is a belief that the librarian as a fictional character is not truthfully represented at all times, the writer of this paper believed the subject worthy of investigation and chose to examine a segment of literature featuring librarians as characters, with the thought of determining their treatment"--Introduction. / Typescript. / "August, 1954." / "Submitted to the Graduate Council of Florida State University in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Arts." / Includes bibliographical references (leaves 50-55).
