No. of bitstreams: 1 Rosilene Carla Vieira.pdf: 1663559 bytes, checksum: b8291983569c105573eb9c5c8a305897 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2014-03-12 / Education is a topic which is constantly in evidence on the international agenda. Since the level of education attained by the society is linked to economic development, political maturity, raising the quality of lifestyle and so on. From the 1990s on, it is observed that the education gained increasingly importance on the agenda of: multilateral agencies (UNESCO, OECD , WTO among others), the federal government from central and semi-peripheral countries, the companies benefited by the knowledge economy, the means of the dissemination of academic knowledge and the media as whole. It is estimated that "the Global higher education capacity is projected to increase over 150% in the first quarter of the 21st century" (Hudzik, 2013, p.52). In an environment in which predominates the competition, comparative methodologies (global academic rankings – ARWU, THE and QS – and the national system of postgraduate studies of CAPES) are used as academic management tools in order to build up strategies to enhance legitimacy of research programs and universities in the international scenario. In this direction that this qualitative study of an exploratory nature lends itself to contribute to. It is based on investigating the possible type of relation between the criteria of the indicators of such rankings mentioned and the national system of pos-graduate CAPES to go up the internationalization of research programs in Brazil. Thus, the Institutionalism was the theoretical framework that guided the understanding of this study. Regarding the documentary research, the materials related to the indicators of rating criteria adopted by CAPES in the allocation of Grade 7 to the program of post- graduate studies in Business Administration were analysed thoroughly. The empirical part was based on semi-structured interviews given by international faculties with experience in academic management of universities who excel in the international scenario. The findings revealed a strong relationship between the indicator criteria regarding the quality of faculty and scientific productivity of global academic rankings and CAPES’ evaluation system. What proved, being national or global, comparative methodologies follow¸ as deliberative strategies in the late twentieth century, Anglo–Saxon standards lined the reductionism of academic quality in the context of research and publication to what is quantitative.

Statistical methods for assessing and managing wild populations

Hoyle, Simon David January 2005 (has links)
This thesis is presented as a collection of five papers and one report, each of which has been either published after peer review or submitted for publication. It covers a broad range of applied statistical methods, from deterministic modelling to integrated Bayesian modelling using MCMC, via bootstrapping and stochastic simulation. It also covers a broad range of subjects, from analysis of recreational fishing diaries, to genetic mark recapture for wombats. However, it focuses on practical applications of statistics to the management of wild populations. The first chapter (Hoyle and Jellyman 2002, published in Marine and Freshwater Research) applies a simple deterministic yield per recruit model to a fishery management problem: possible overexploitation of the New Zealand longfin eel. The chapter has significant implications for longfin eel fishery management. The second chapter (Hoyle and Cameron 2003, published in Fisheries Management and Ecology) focuses on uncertainty in the classical paradigm, by investigating the best way to estimate bootstrap confidence limits on recreational harvest and catch rate using catch diary data. The third chapter (Hoyle et al., in press with Molecular Ecology Notes) takes a different path by looking at genetic mark-recapture in a fisheries management context. Genetic mark-recapture was developed for wildlife abundance estimation but has not previously been applied to fish harvest rate estimation. The fourth chapter (Hoyle and Banks, submitted) addresses genetic mark-recapture, but in the wildlife context for estimates of abundance rather than harvest rate. Our approach uses individual-based modeling and Bayesian analysis to investigate the effect of shadows on abundance estimates and confidence intervals, and to provide guidelines for developing sets of loci for populations of different sizes and levels of relatedness. The fifth chapter (Hoyle and Maunder 2004, Animal Biodiversity and Conservation) applies integrated analysis techniques developed in fisheries to the modeling of protected species population dynamics - specifically the north-eastern spotted dolphin, Stenella attenuata. It combines data from a number of different sources in a single statistical model, and estimates parameters using both maximum likelihood and Bayesian MCMC. The sixth chapter (Hoyle 2002, peer reviewed and published as Queensland Department of Primary Industries Information Series) results directly from a pressing management issue: developing new management procedures for the Queensland east coast Spanish mackerel fishery. It uses an existing stock assessment as a starting point for an integrated Bayesian management strategy evaluation. Possibilities for further research have been identified within the subject areas of each chapter, both within the chapters and in the final discussion chapter.

Comparative analysis and evaluation of the duration perspective in Japanese and American strategic management models : a research study into the question of optimum timeframe selection for American corporate strategic management

Tollman, Bryan Jonathan 11 1900 (has links)
The purpose of this research was the evaluation of the American Strategic Duration Perspective, generally accepted and often criticized for being performance based shorttermism, to the detriment of its long term economic sustenance. The study sampled three hundred and thirty one corporate strategic leaders in three categories, namely; American, Japanese and Japanese-American. The survey instrument was a written, cross sectional, questionnaire. The study evaluated the American Strategic Duration Perspective in contrast to; the Japanese Strategic Duration Perspective, generally accepted as long-termism, secondly, by measuring Japanese-American SDP. adaptation made in relation or response to the American Operating Environment. The traditional Japanese-American Strategic Duration Perspective is Japanese long-termism. Thus, JapaneseAmerican SDP. adjustment to the American Operating Environment would "objectively' demonstrate whether the American Strategic Duration Perspective was an appropriate subjective (Japanese-American) perception or not. The data reflected that not only had the Japanese-American sample become more American in Strategic Duration Perspective, but that the Japanese had themselves shortened their SDP. "independent" of the American Operating Environment. These facts supported the status quo American Strategic Duration Perspective. Further, the shortening of Strategic Duration Perspective by the Japanese sample reflects a broader, global trend toward an increasingly RealTimestrategic management model / Economic and Management Sciences / D. Návrh strategie rozvoje SBU / Proposal of Strategy of SBU Development

Šebesta, Petr January 2008 (has links)
