New PNHN Pincer-Type Ligands and Their Complexes for Transfer Hydrogenation

Konrad, Brandon January 2009 (has links)
The ligand tBu2PC2H4NHCH2Py (PNHN) was synthesized starting from 2-pyridinecarboxaldehyde and 2-chloroethanamine. Initial attempts for coordination of the PNHN ligand to a metal center was performed using [IrCl(COE)2]2, IrCl3·3H2O, [RuCl2(p-cymene)]2 and RuCl2(PPh3)3. The reaction between the PNHN ligand and [IrCl(COE)2]2 under H2 resulted in the chloride IrCl(H)2(PNHN). Synthesis of the active hydride species is currently under investigation. A reaction of the PNHN ligand with RuCl2(PPh3)3 under nitrogen afforded the dichloride RuCl2(PPh3)(PNHN). Treatment of the dichloride with KOBut in 2-pentanol led to the formation of the dihydride RuH2(PPh3)(PNHN). Formation of the 16-electron amido complex RuH(PPh3)3(PNN) was achieved through the evolution of H2. The dihydride demonstrated good potential catalytic activity for transfer hydrogenation of acetophenone and cyclohexanone. Current work involves the synthesis of a chiral analogue of the PNHN ligand.

Switch : the lives of Club DOMINION

Pogue, Paul F. P. January 2006 (has links)
A unique cultural artifact, the bondage club known as Club DOMINION, existed in Muncie, Ind., from 1997 to 2001.This project is a 25,000-word work of literary journalism detailing the four years of DOMINION's existence and the inner lives of its participants. Using techniques of interviews, observation, and immersion journalism inspired by the work of Tom Wolfe, Gay Talese, and John McPhee, it tells the story of the founder of the club, known as Moth, and her close-knit circle of friends. The project also acts as an ethnographic study of a distinctive subculture operating in a conservative Midwestern community. / Department of Journalism

Nejčastější způsoby ukončení zápasu v MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) v UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) / Most common ways to end a match in MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) in the UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship)

Pihávková, Natálie January 2020 (has links)
The basis of this diploma thesis is to find out the most common way to end MMA (mixed martial arts) matches in the UFC (Ultimate fighting championship) organization. The theoretical part is devoted to the description of MMA as such, history, rules with a larger description of possible ways to end the match and with a description of weight categories that are essential for us in this work. He also deals with the UFC organization and its history and MMA in the Czech Republic. The practical part is devoted to research, which focuses on ways to end the MMA match in the UFC in various men's weight categories. The same is done for weight categories in the Czech Republic. A Multi-platform Job Submission System for Epidemiological Simulation Models

Mudgal, Kunal Rajendra 29 August 2011 (has links)
In the current era of computing, the emergence of middle-ware software has resulted into a high level of software abstraction which has contributed to the diffusion of distributed computing. Distributed frameworks are systems comprised of many computing resources that are coupled together to perform one or more tasks. In a scientific grid-like environment, there are many different applications which require vast computing resources for simulation, execution, or analysis. Some of the applications require faster results, while other rely on more resources for execution. A configurable job submission system helps in distributing the tasks among the resources depending on their preference, priority and usage in a distributed environment. We implemented a job submission system using JavaSpace which can be used for simulating jobs according to their priority. Two different types of brokers are used to monitor the JavaSpace. These brokers can either be used to compute results for tasks that require faster results using binaries installed on a stand-alone system or they can be used to submit the task to a BOINC system for computation. The flexibility to submit tasks as per their priority would help users to get faster results. Upon completion of the tasks, the brokers updates the jobs and transfers the results for further processing thus completing a cycle of retrieving a job, computing the data and transferring the results back to the user. The generic nature of the framework makes it very simple to add new services which can perform a variety of tasks, making the system highly modular and easily extensible. Multiple brokers doing the same or different tasks can run on the same or different systems allowing the users to make efficient use of their resources. The brokers can be configured to detect the existing system and start monitoring jobs of different types. The framework can be used to transfer the results or detect any failures while execution and report it back to the user. The simple modular design and strong high-level JavaSpace API make it very easy to develop new systems for the framework. / Master of Science

The dynamic model of double auction market

Li, Honghong January 2009 (has links)
Most financial markets operate as double auction markets in which buyers and sellers submit limit and market orders. In this case the traders have to decide firstly whether they want to submit a buy or sell order and then secondly what the limit price of this order is. In this thesis I develop further a theoretical model based on Chatterjee and Samuelson (1983) in which two traders trade with each other in a double auction market. Assuming that both traders assign a private value to the asset they are trading, which is known only to them but not their trading partner, I determine whether the traders should submit a buy or sell order and what the optimal limit price should be. I develop a single-period model in which traders only trade once and thus cannot learn each other’s private values from trading as well as a multi-period model that allows to infer to some degree the other trader’s private value from their order submission behavior. Using this theoretical model as a benchmark, I then conducted experiments with students to evaluate whether the actual behavior of students fits the theory developed. Although we find that in general the behavior of traders is consistent with the proposed theory, there are some significant differences. Most notably traders seem to underreact to differences in their own private value, i.e. do not adjust their limit price to the extend suggested by theory. I evaluate these outcomes in light of results established results in behavioral finance.
