Estudo dos parâmetros: teor de NaCl e acabamento superficial, na resistência à corrosão localizada e generalizada em tubos de cobre / Study of the parameters: NaCl concentration and surface finish on the pitting corrosion resistance of copper tubes

Antonio Carlos Neto de Jesus 17 March 2008 (has links)
Copper tubes manufactured with C12200 ASTM (99.9% Cu-0015-0040% P) are used worldwide for potable water transport. The largest number of leakages in these tubes is due to pitting, usually related to the water quality, associated to the presence of chloride ions originated from water disinfecting treatment. The literature on the effect of chloride on the corrosion of copper pipelines is controversial. The finishing of the copper tubes inner might also influence pitting corrosion. The lubricating oils used in the manufacture of copper tubes contain carbon and a deleterious film might form during annealing. The objective of this study is to investigate the effect of sodium chloride content and the inner surface finishing of copper tubes used for water transport (ABNT/NBR-13206) on their corrosion resistance. The study was carried out by electrochemical tests in naturally aerated sodium chloride solutions at various concentrations, at 25 °C. The tubes inner surface was observed previous to and after the electrochemical tests by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The effects of the following surface finishing were investigated: degrease, sand blasting, annealing and the surface without treatment. A loop was built to simulate the operational conditions of the tubes. Results indicated that the corrosion mechanism in chloride solutions with concentrations between 0.06 mol L-1 and 0.12 mol L-1 was localized attack, whereas in the 0.6 mol L-1 solution, generalized attack was the predominant mechanism. The results the surface finishing investigation indicated that the treatments that leads to carbon content reduction are beneficial to corrosion resistance. However, other features must also be considered. For instance, although sand blasting reduces the carbon content on the tubes surface, the increase in roughness due to this treatment decreases the corrosion resistance. The surface treatments that resulted in increased corrosion resistance were those that also resulted in lower carbon levels at the surface, namely degreasing and annealing.

García Hernández, Álvaro 29 January 2008 (has links)
Theoretically, the time of troweling a concrete pavement coincides with the setting time. To solve this problem, a theoretical model of the penetration resistance evolution of concrete during the setting time was developed. A new methodology to know the temperature influence on the setting times of concrete and on the time of toweling the pavement has been also performed.Besides, from six experimental pavements with the most representative type of finishing at the time of carrying out the study, a comparative analysis among them was done by means of different types of tests. Moreover, an analysis of the dynamic behavior of the pavement was carried out to know the protective effect of the type of finishing on the slab. Finally, a model for the dynamic behavior of a concrete pavement subjected to abrasion was made.

Avaliação do Desempenho de Fluidos de Corte Contaminados no Processo de Torneamento do Aço Inoxidável Austenítico V304UF / Evaluation of the Performance of Contaminated Cutting Fluids when Turning AISI 304 Austenitic Stainless Steel

Grub, André Mangetti 11 December 2013 (has links)
Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / In machining processes the main functions of cutting fluids (FC) are cooling and lubrication of the tribological system comprised of the workpiece, the chip and the cutting tool. When adequately chosen and correctly applyed they may raise tool lives, reduce machining forces and improve the surface finishing of the workpiece. However, during their use, research has demonstrated that water based cutting fluids (emulsions and solutions) become suceptible to microbiological contamination (by bacterias) that uses nutrients encountered in their composition to grow and reproduce. According to the specialised literature, the metabolic activities of these microorganisms degrade the cutting fluids, altering their chemical and phisycal properties. However, the study of this theme is limited and there is no research work that quantitatively indicates the influence of these contaminants in the machinability parameters. Therefore, the present work has the main objetctive of quantifying three machinability parameters (cutting force, surface roughness and tool life) when turning V304UF stainless steel using two water based cutting fluids (emulsion of vegetable base and semi-syntetic of mineral base). These two cutting fluids were intentionaly contaminated in an induced manner by periodic inoculations up to a mean contamination of 105 UFC/mL. With this procedure it was possible to compare the eficiency of new and contminated cutting fluids during the turning process. The results showed that the contaminated cutting fluids with 105 UFC/mL changed the pH, destabilized the emulsions and caused small changes in the machinability parameters (maching force, surface roughness and tool life), mainly under low cutting speeds and feed rates. Thus, the contamination of the cutting fluids, particularly the vegetable base ones, can promote small influences in important machinability parameters.
