MDP for Symbian

Jonsson, Erik, Persson, Mikael January 2008 (has links)

The content of this report describes a bachelor thesis performed on commission by Cybercom Sweden West. The report describes techniques, methods and development tools used during the project. The purpose of this project is to demonstrate the usefulness with a new Bluetooth profile called Medical Device Profile (MDP) on the Medica trade fair 14-11-2007. The MDP profile that will be released in turn of the ear 07/08 is primarily intended to be used in medical devices. The demonstration is to be made by building a demonstrator consisting of an application running on a smartphone with Bluetooth abilities. The application will handle the Bluetooth connection between the smartphone and the oximeter, the data encryption and other functionalities and presenting the figures received form the oximeter in a Graphical User Interface (GUI).The final demonstrator consists of a smartphone application programmed in Symbian C++, which communicates with the oximeter using the Bluetooth Serial Port Profile (SPP). The application runs on UIQ 3.0 based smartphones and displays heart rate and %SpO2 (The percentage of oxygen saturation in blood), which the application receives from the oximeter. The original idea was to use the MDP profile by porting Cybercom's C version of the MDP to Symbian OS for the Bluetooth communication, depending on various factors described more in detail inside the report this was not done. The purpose of the project was still reached, even though another profile then MDP was used. This was done by replacing the considered oximeter for an older version which is using the SPP. By using SPP the same result will be demonstrated but with an older technique, and this will achieve the same result on Medica trade fair. The project was demonstrated on Medica with a successful result.

Avkodning av streckkoder i mobila enheter

Stolt, Jonatan January 2009 (has links)

The most common method for identifying merchandise in the commerce is by barcodes. Symbian OS is an advanced operating system aimed at cell phones and the most commonly used in smart phones. Opportunities to a full range of new services are given through barcode recognition in a Symbian OS based device. Therefore the purpose of this degree project was to create an application which would contribute to a future solution aimed at shopping where the cell phone constitutes a reader of itemsʼ identification numbers. Available barcode decoders have been evaluated and three were chosen for testing. The decoder that fared best was ZXing. It was subsequently incorporated into a Symbian OS-based mobile phone. The decoder was written in the Java language but sufficient Java APIs for controlling the camera's autofocus were missing, something that was necessary to decode the barcode. On the other hand the APIs were offered in C++. Therefore, the solution was split into two applications, one server application written in Java and responsible for the decoding and one client application written in C++ containing the GUI, camera controlling facilities and connections to two price comparison services. A procedure for communication between applications and an interface for various lookup services were defined. Finally, the information security was evaluated and the most relevant threat would be a third party that collects information about user behavior patterns for extortion purposes. It was concluded that the application that was created had the ability to scan barcodes, it is possible to extend and thereby fulfill the purpose.

End-to-end monitoring of mobile services / Övervakning av mobila tjänster

Holmström, Maria January 2003 (has links)

The growing market of mobile services through SMS, MMS, WAP and soon also for 3G protocols, requires efficient test methods to ensure that the customers get what they are paying for and in a reasonable time. Preferably, these tests should be done automatically and come as close to real conditions as possible. It would be valuable to be able to make tests from end to end, i.e. requesting and receiving the mobile services on a real mobile phone and combine that with a system that controls and evaluates the tests.

This thesis presents a solution to how the part of an end-to-end monitoring system for mobile services that runs on a mobile phone can be designed and implemented. The phone is made to interpret commands from a control process on a remote server and turn them into mobile service requests in a proper format (e.g. SMS or MMS). When it receives the reply from a mobile service provider, it forwards the relevant result information to the control process.

The monitoring system is based on Symbian OS, an operating system developed to suit handheld devices like mobile phones. The current implementation supports tests for SMS and MMS services.

The system is to be used by mobile operators or other providers of mobile services, which want to test and monitor their services.

Utveckling av mobiltelefonapplikation för kommunikation i ad-hoc nätverk med Bluetoothteknik

Simberg, Gustav, Viggeborn, Björn January 2005 (has links)

The purpose of this thesis is to develop an application for mobile phones that simplifies communication. The company Doberman wanted to look at possibilities to develop such an application that uses Bluetooth™ technol-ogy to communicate in ad-hoc networks. The aim has been an application to run on mobile phones in which you can send messages and files to other devices and also add a user profile with personal information to share with others. The communication will take place in temporary networks created when Bluetooth enabled devices is in range of each other.

The market for mobile phones has grown rapidly over the past years and is still growing. There are many differ-ent phone models and it is difficult to find a developer platform that covers many phone models. In the beginning of this thesis an inquiry of different developer platforms has been made. The Java™ platform is supported by most phones but has limitations in accessing functions on the device. The best alternative was Symbian C++ for devices with Symbian OS. This alternative does not have the same limitations as Java and is still supported by relatively many devices. The application was then developed in Symbian C++. There are a number of different versions of Symbian OS and different GUI-platforms that runs on Symbian OS which leads to other issues in the development. We have limited the development of the application to the Series 60 platform for Symbian OS v7.0s. During design and implementation portability to other GUI-platforms has been considered.

We have tested the application on emulator compatible with Symbian OS v7.0s and Symbian OS v8.0a and found some compatibility problems between the two versions. We have also tested the application on mobile phones and between emulator and the phone with corresponding OS-version no new problems occurred

Šifrování SMS pro mobilní komunikaci / SMS Encryption for Mobile Communication

Lisoněk, David January 2008 (has links)
This thesis deals with encryption of short text message (SMS) in mobile communication. Introduction is dedicated to overview of the parts of GSM radiotelephone nets and SMS messages transfer . Next chapter is reserved for description of cryptographic methods especially symetric and asymetric encryptografic aproaches. A design of a SMS messages encryption and decryption techniques is in next. For SMS encryption and sign, there is used the asymetric cypher RSA. Encryption use OAEP padding schema. The public key is saved in certificate. The Symbian OS has been choosen as a suitable platform for programming of mobile devices.

Zpracování obrazu a videa na mobilních telefonech / Image and Video Processing on Mobile Phones

Gazdík, Martin Unknown Date (has links)
This paper deals with image and video processing on Symbian OS smartphones. Description of required development tools is given, and pros and cons of existing image processing applications are discussed. Afterwards, a new application, fast image viewer and editor, is designed keeping disadvantages of similar applications in mind. Purpose of this work is to make simple and fast tool for easy manipulation with integrated camera and captured images. Results and future development directions are at the end.
