Thibaudeau, Christian January 2010 (has links)

Estudo de topologias para redes WDM-PON / Study of network topologies for WDM-PON

Silva, Guilherme Enéas Vaz 19 March 2010 (has links)
The demand for bandwidth by access networks users has increased rapidly and the Wavelength Division Multiplexing - Passive Optical Network (WDM-PON) has been pointed out as the technology capable of meeting this demand. In this framework, this work initially carries out a comparison between an ideal WDM-PON network and a TDM-PON network, also discussing TDM-PON security issues as well as migration strategies from TDM-PON to WDM-PON configurations. Next, taking into account the high implementation cost of the WDM-PON original scheme, we investigated alternative topologies available in the literature. Based on this study, we performed a more in-depth analysis regarding recently proposed topologies, derived from the RITENET, which are refered at the literature as centralized light sources (CLS) based architectures. Such networks are based on the locking of Fabry-Pérot lasers diodes through the injection of the ASE signal from an EDFA and were studied by using the software OptiSystem 8.0.

Hybrid switching : converging packet and TDM flows in a single platform

Parajuli, Roshan 25 February 2009
Optical fibers have brought fast and reliable data transmission to todays network. The immense fiber build-out over the last few years has generated a wide array of new access technologies, transport and network protocols, and next-generation services in the Local Area Network (LAN), Metropolitan Area Network (MAN), and Wide Area Network (WAN). All these different technologies, protocols, and services were introduced to address particular telecommunication needs. To remain competitive in the market, the service providers must offer most of these services, while maintaining their own profitability. However, offering a large variety of equipment, protocols, and services posses a big challenge for service carriers because it requires a huge investment in different technology platforms, lots of training of staff, and the management of all these networks.
In todays network, service providers use SONET (Synchronous Optical NETwork) as a basic TDM (Time Division Multiplexing) transport network. SONET was primarily designed to carry voice traffic from telephone networks. However, with the explosion of traffic in the Internet, the same SONET based TDM network is optimized to support increasing demand for packet based Internet network services (data, voice, video, teleconference etc.) at access networks and LANs. Therefore the service providers need to support their Internet Protocol (IP) infrastructure as well as in the legacy telephony infrastructure. Supporting both TDM and packet services in the present condition needs multilayer operations which is complex, expensive, and difficult to manage. A hybrid switch is a novel architecture that combines packets (IP) and TDM switching in a unified access platform and provides seamless integration of access networks and LANs with MAN/WAN networks. The ability to fully integrate these two capabilities in a single chassis will allow service providers to deploy a more cost effective and flexible architecture that can support a variety of different services.
This thesis develops a hybrid switch which is capable of offering bundled services for TDM switching and packet routing. This is done by dividing the switchs bandwidth into VT1.5 (Virtual Tributary -1.5) channels and providing SONET based signaling for routing the data and controlling the switchs resources. The switch is a TDM based architecture which allows each switchs port to be independently configured for any mixture of packet and TDM traffic, including 100% packet and 100% TDM. This switch allows service providers to simplify their edge networks by consolidating the number of separate boxes needed to provide fast and reliable access. This switch also reduces the number of network management systems needed, and decreases the resources needed to install, provision and maintain the network because of its ability to collapse two network layers into one platform.
The scope of this thesis includes system architecture, logic implementation, and verification testing, and performance evaluation of the hybrid switch. The architecture consists of ingress/egress ports, an arbiter and a crossbar. Data from ingress ports is carried to the egress ports via VT1.5 channels which are switched at the cross point of the crossbar. The crossbar setup and channel assignments at ingress port are done by the arbiter. The design was tested by simulation and the hardware cost was estimated. The performance results showed that the switch is non-blocking, provide differentiated service, and has an overall effective throughput of 80%. This result is a significant step towards the goal of building a switch that can support multiprotocol and provide different network capabilities into one platform. The long-term goal of this project is to develop a prototype of the hybrid switch with broadband capability.

LOW EARTH ORBITER TERMINAL (LEO-T)

Harrison, Keith, Blevins, William 10 1900 (has links)
International Telemetering Conference Proceedings / October 27-30, 1997 / Riviera Hotel and Convention Center, Las Vegas, Nevada / The Low Earth Orbit Terminal (LEO-T) developed by AlliedSignal for NASA Wallops is a fully autonomous satellite tracking system which provides a reliable, high quality, satellite data collection and dissemination service. The procurement was initiated by NASA, in an effort to provide more tracking capacity with a decreasing budget. A large mission set of NASA satellites in the next decade will not require the performance of existing large aperture systems. NASA is planning to use the larger aperture antennas to only support those missions needing the higher performance. The remainder of the missions will be supported with the smaller LEO-Ts, which are smaller, significantly less expensive, and fully automated. The procurement is also an attempt at a first step towards fostering commercialization and privatization of small station acquisition and services. The system design features a modular architecture to simplify integration and to support affordable future expansion. This paper begins with a brief summary of the LEO-T program, then provides the design details and capabilities of the LEO-T system.

Modélisation de la perfusion abdominale sur des séquences dynamiques d'images tomodensitométriques avec injection de produit de constraste / Modeling of abdominal perfusion on CT image sequences with contrast product injection

Romain, Blandine 16 January 2014 (has links)
The main objective is to propose robust methods to allow estimation of functional markers reflecting the tumor evolution from dynamic studies. Currently, in this domain, assessing of the efficiency evaluation of an anti-angiogenic therapy (destruction of vessels which feed the tumor) is mainly based on the functional imaging of the microcirculation, which the objective is to quantify the tumor microcirculation by dynamic acquisitions with injection of contrast product. However, several limitations are present (lack of control of the breathing movement, no consensus on the parameters permitting the quantification of tumor microcirculation, parameter estimation computed from noisy data and a large number of regions - one estimation by voxel or group of voxel of the dynamic image sequence). In a restrictive clinical context (noisy data, few number), we have developed a complete pipeline with a set of necessary steps to a reliable characterization of the tumor microcirculation from dynamic perfusion image sequence: the main contributions of this thesis cover the reconstruction parameters optimization, the development of a registration method, the argued selection of a perfusion model and the development of a robust method of parameter estimation. With these works, we can envision the utilization of these perfusion models to the characterization and the prediction of the therapy response of a patient

Dataöverföring av skilda datatyper på gemensam länk via multiplexing / Data transmission with diffrent data types in a common link with multiplexing

Andersson, Edvin January 2017 (has links)
When transferring different data types between two sites, they have historically been transferred on separate infrastructures; analog signals separately, and digital data separately. Within the aviation industry, both these data types are still handled today, as transition from analog voice data to digital voice data takes time. To simplify the infrastructure, it is desirable to send all data on the same medium. Time Division Multiplexing (TDM) makes this possible and has been studied with focus on robustness and performance. The study has focused on how TDM devices should be configured with respect to Ethernet frame size to fully utilize link capacity. Theoretical reasoning has been validated by experimental data performed on TDM devices coupled with a fiber link. The number of lost frames for the system has been measured while varying data rates. This was repeated for several Ethernet frame sizes. Smaller frame sizes showed a higher possible transfer rate before data loss was recorded. This shows coherence between theory and experiments. Larger frame sizes were less good at filling the TDM time slots, causing data buffer on the device to overflow faster than for smaller frame sizes. This created data loss in the system. Other factors, such as overhead and payload, implies that the frame size should be chosen by application. Smaller data volumes that are sent frequently have an advantage when using smaller frame sizes, while when handling largeramounts of data that need to be transmitted quickly, it is more efficient to use larger frame sizes

A Study into the Tradeoffs Between TDM / MF-SCPC and TDM / MF-TDMA Transport Options to Support IP-Based Multimedia Applications Under Different Load Conditions Within a Point-to-Multipoint Satellite Network

Good, Stephen D. 05 June 2012 (has links)
This thesis provides the reader with an overview of the many elements that are involved in geosynchronous satellite point-to-multipoint Internet Protocol (IP)-based multimedia communications design and also takes a deep dive into the analysis of a real-life scenario, using the TDM / MF-SCPC and TDM / MF-TDMA media access techniques. This thesis starts with a discussion of satellite network topologies utilized within point-to-multipoint satellite communications followed by an overview of the satellite communications channel. A discussion on the intelligent and proper selection of modulation and coding follows. Descriptions and characteristics of the satellite access technologies chosen to be analyzed are next followed by a detailed description of Forward Error Correction (FEC) techniques and a discussion on network-wide tradeoffs so selecting different options. The thesis then presents the results of a real-life scenario, investigating both TDM / MF-SCPC and TDM / MF-TDMA media access technique options, pointing out the tradeoffs brought to the forefront earlier in the study. The major takeaway is that there does not exist a one-size-fits-all solution that works for each and every scenario. / Master of Science

[en] INTERROGATION SYSTEM OF FIBER BRAGG GRATING SENSORS USING TIME DIVISION MULTIPLEXING AND WAVELENGTH DIVISION MULTIPLEXING / [pt] SISTEMA DE INTERROGAÇÃO DE SENSORES A REDE DE BRAGG UTILIZANDO MULTIPLEXAÇÃO NO TEMPO E MULTIPLEXAÇÃO NO COMPRIMENTO DE ONDA

BRUNO SAPHA OLIVIERI 03 February 2005 (has links)
[en] An interrogation system of fiber Bragg grating sensors using time division multiplexing and wavelength division multiplexing is proposed and demonstrated. The system presents a solution to measure the magnitudes associated to the reflection spectrum of the fiber Bragg gratings, making possible to increase the number of the Bragg gratings sensors monitored through large distances at the same fiber optic, without a great increase in the costs. The innovative aspect of this system is the particular association of the following characteristics: the use of a pulsed broad band source, the disposition, in series, of a large number of low reflectivity Bragg gratings sensors, the reusing technique of the same nominal wavelengths in groups containing several numbers of sensors with distinct nominal wavelengths, and a spectral analyzing and filtering process of pulsed signals using a commercial DWDM filter. Theoretical and experimental aspects regarding the working principles of this technique are discussed. Comparisons between experimental and simulated results show a good agreement. Experimental results indicate that a dynamic range of 1,7 nm was obtained. It can be used in temperature measurement systems, with a 150°C range. Uncertainties equivalent to approximately 20 picometers was obtained. Experimental simulations indicate that it would be possible to use a number of approximately 70 sensors with 0,4% reflectivity at each nominal sensor wavelength. Considering the DWDM filter bandwidth (1539-1565 nm) used in this system, and a spectral separation of 7 nm by nominal sensor wavelength, extrapolations indicate that a number of 210 sensors can be obtained, in three different nominal sensor wavelength. Using the C-band and the L-band, a number of 1000 sensors can be obtained, in fourteen different nominal sensor wavelength.
