Men who in this period left small cities of south of Minas Gerais looking for better conditions of life and in the Franca city, northeast region of São Paulo. There was a reflection about the social displacement of these men, the work in the coffee plantation in the São Paulo region, the work at the tannery and the preparation of de tannery workers office as a promising way to understand experiences of life of these men, that before work in this position tried another works and gains between the field and the city. It is relevant to say that the itinerancy of the work practice in the learning of the work and in the formation of their lives at the city. Understanding that for these men become workers, to can a urban work, to be part of a category of work needed a dialog, always anxious, with processes that do not apart personal life, the relation with the work and the places where their lives grew up, the field and the city, what mean find them at the layer of social formation and economic of the city int that time, in the invisibility given to the common workers, poor and migrants in general in a city that look for the paulistas `face of urbanity and modernization in that moment. This is in their memories, showing aspects of their lives, noticing how they feeling observing apart from them, in question of time, space and social experiences of work that were true references in their lives. There was interest in understand their comprehension of their own way, how they look to themselves, in that process , that in a special moment, change them in urban workers to after exclude them of the productive process. Noticing them in a way that they situated themselves in the present time, how they are in this process, the problems, the reminder and things that they left in the past / O Objetivo do presente trabalho é tornar visíveis experiências de vida e de trabalho de um grupo de homens, os velhos curtumeiros da cidade de Franca entre os anos de 1940 a 1980. Homens que neste período saíram de pequenas cidades da região Sul do Estado de Minas Gerais buscando melhores condições de vida e de trabalho na cidade de Franca, região Nordeste do Estado de São Paulo. Buscou-se refletir sobre o deslocamento social destes homens, o trabalho nas lavouras de café na região paulista, o trabalhar nos curtumes e a elaboração do ofício de curtumeiros como um caminho promissor para compreender experiências de vida destes sujeitos, que antes de dedicarem-se a este ofício experimentaram outras formas de trabalho e ganhos entre o campo e a cidade. Destaca-se ainda, a itinerância de práticas de trabalho na aprendizagem de um ofício e na constituição das suas vidas na cidade. Entendendo que para estes homens o tornar-se trabalhadores, adquirir um ofício urbano, fazer parte de uma categoria de trabalho, exigia o dialogo, sempre tenso, com processos em que não se separam trajetórias pessoais, a relação com o trabalho e os locais em que constituíram suas vidas, o campo e a cidade. O que significa encontrá-los nas fímbrias da constituição social e econômica da cidade naqueles anos, na invisibilidade imposta aos trabalhadores comuns, pobres e "migrantes" em geral em uma cidade que buscava as feições paulistas de urbanidade e modernização naquele momento. Transita-se por suas memórias, flagrando aspectos do seu viver, percebendo como se sentiram vendo afastar-se deles, temporal, espacial e socialmente experiências de trabalho que foram verdadeiras referências em suas vidas. Buscou-se também compreender as suas interpretações do seu próprio caminhar, como se vêem, no presente, naquele processo, que em determinado momento transformou-os em trabalhadores urbanos, para, em seguida excluí-los do processo produtivo. Percebendo-os a partir de uma forma própria de se situar no presente, do seu posicionamento frente á este processo, os impasses, as lembranças e esquecimentos
