This study is based on the cyberculture context, what can be understood as a group of techniques (technical and intellectuals), practices, behaviors, thoughts and values that are being developed along the growing of cyberspace. Subjectivity is not a field where things are perceived, but the result of social relations mediated by the language. In this sense, the speech takes the centre of the investigations about the process of subjectivity. We agree with Nicolaci-da-Costa when she says there is a negative discourse about the using of Internet which has been fed by researchers who had compared, on the spot of mass media, the intensive using of Internet to chemical dependence. We also agree with Castells who believes that the technology innovations brought by Internet have promoted significant changes to our ways of life, what brought consequences on the consume, social interaction and the ways that people represent the world. This study aims to analyze the means involved in the use of Internet tools, such as Google, Facebook, MSN, Orkut and others. This is a qualitative study, which is based on the analyze meth of social representations, according to Moscovici and Jovchelovitch. The research was placed in a Brazilian public school of Ribeirão Preto, São Paulo State. As procedures: individual interviews were done with 18 students, aged between 15 and 18 years old and 10 professors. The students were chosen from a questionnaire about the Internet using, which were applied in 65 teenagers and the criteria was their disposition in participate on the research. The professors were chosen randomly among the ones that were available. The interviews have been analyzed through the content analysis techniques developed by Bardin, which aloud the researcher to classify the speeches in units of significations and categories of issues, to then analyze the structure and the transversality of the speeches. This study aims to give contributions to build pedagogic practices able to support public politics of digital inclusion in public schools. As results, we can affirm that the individuals give different means to their using of internet tools, but they normally associate to the following aspects: a) cognitive: improvement and execution of their school activities; b) affective: friendship relations in chats and social medias; c) erotic: images capture and superficial virtual relationship; d) entertainment: games, information, news; e) social inclusion: rituals of group and tribes. Otherwise the group of professors revealed how the schools had became a contradictory place, affected by a predominant discourse that the Internet should be absorbed by its pedagogic practices, although there is not enough investments, and on the other side a discourse which condemns the utilization of its students as superficial.

The use of information and communication technology by emerging commercial farmers in their development in the Western Cape, South AfricaSmidt, Hermanus Jacobus January 2018 (has links)
Magister Artium (Development Studies) - MA (DVS) / Although many researchers have shown ICT can enable development it remains a great challenge to
understand the link between JCT4D projects and the development of emerging commercial
agriculture. There is a need to realise the potential of information and communication technologies
(ICT) for emerging commercial farmer development in order to achieve agriculture expansion and
transformation in South Africa. This is important in order for them to partake in the knowledge
economy visualised in the 2030 National development plan of South Africa and achieving the
Sustainable Development Goals in 2030. However in South Africa, it is not yel established which
spec(flc ICT are used, how they are used and the extent of deployment ((used in the emerging
commercial agricultural sector. Few studies have focused on the faclors that influence the use of !CT
in South Ajhcan emerging agriculture. This study investigates and attempts to understand the usage
of ICT by emerging commercial farmers and the issues 1hat influence ICT use on the West Coast of
the Western Cape Province in South Africa. The study investigates 1he different forms of JCT used,
how they are being used, what they are used for, how important these technologies are as enablers of
production, and the factors that affect their use. The study involved a survey response of 42 emerging
commercial farmers and 46 of their farm employees in the Matzikama and Cederberg municipalities.
A literature review draws from studies globally, regionally and in South Africa on how !CTs have
penetrated and contributed to delivering development in emerging commercial agriculture. Although
most emerging commercial farmers cannot afford to adopt !CT tools that are essential in their
farming activities almost all who were interviewed acknowledged the importance of ICT to their
businesses. However, among other ICT, mobile phones and television were found to be primarily used
for social and entertainment reasons rather than for agricultural pwposes. The general findings
showed that occupation on farm and JCT literacy influence the use of ICT by farm employees. On the
other hand the gender, capacity of the farmer, off farm income and farm size influences the use of ICT
by emerging commercial farmers. Our literature review established some examples ji'om the studies
of other researchers and the efforts of multi-lateral institutions such as the FA 0 and ITU to illustrate
how we can improve policy. 1 recommend that the South African government develop an e-agriculture
strategy to monitor development and validation of good practices on the use of ICTs in
agriculture and rural development. This strategy will examine emerging trends on the role of JCTs
and the challenges faced in reaching scaled, sustainable informCIIion service models. This can
increase the sustainability of emerging commercial agriculture to contribute to the improvement of
the lives of the poor in rural areas. Finally I present research questions for future research.

January 2005 (has links)
Itmem - Information Technology Management Enhancement Model: Assessment Of Information Technology Use In OrganizationsSezgin, Emre 01 September 2010 (has links) (PDF)
This study proposes a new model for the assessment of information technology (IT) use in public and private companies, which is called ITMEM- Information Technology Management Enhancement Model. This model aims to assist decision making processes in information technology management. For this purpose, a tool is developed to explore strengths and weaknesses of a company in IT use. The model was developed upon a three-folded structure including (1) academic studies in technology management, (2) best practices which are developed for control over operations and processes including COBIT, CMMI and ITIL, and (3) standards about IT management and IT security. The conceptual framework of ITMEM is based on technology management process assessment model of M.J. Gregory. Methodological triangulation approach is adopted for the model for retrieving valid and reliable results. Triangulation consists of (1) semi structured interview, (2) presented company documents and (3) questionnaire developed upon relevant academic researches, best practices and standards. ITMEM was practiced on ten domestic and experienced companies in software & / development and manufacturing industries which were appraised in or in progress of being appraised in CMMI. The study revealed the benefits and deficiencies of IT use in the company. It also provided information for decision makers about IT value within companies, and demonstrated the effects of best practices and standards over IT use.The reported findings should be valuable assets to researchers studying on IT management and IT use in organizations.
