ονομάζονται πρωτόκολλα σηματοδοσίας. Τα πρωτόκολλα σηματοδοσίας για VoIP εφαρμογές
και ιδιαίτερα το πρωτόκολλο SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) είναι το βασικό θέμα της
παρούσας εργασίας. Συγκεκριμένα, έγινε ανάπτυξη ενός SIP User Agent, το λογισμικό του
οποίου θα εκτελείται στο δικτυακό επεξεργαστή IXP425 της Intel, μαζί με τα απαραίτητα

Aims: The study of cognitive functioning in large epidemiological settings is hampered by a lack of instruments for the remote assessment of cognitive performance, especially when targeting variability across the full range of adult functioning. The present study examined the practicability of such investigations using a recently developed telephone interview (Cognitive Telephone Screening Instrument, COGTEL). Methods: A subcohort of an ongoing epidemiological study in the elderly German population (ESTHER) was interviewed via telephone by trained personnel. These data were combined with sociodemographic information obtained by standardized self-administered questionnaires, and analysed by tabulation, histograms and regression models. Results: A total of 1,697 interviews could be analysed. The eligible participants had a mean age ± standard deviation of 74.0 ± 2.8 years. The COGTEL total scores closely followed a normal distribution with no evidence of a ceiling effect. In adjusted regression models, COGTEL total and subcomponent scores were negatively associated with age and strongly positively with higher education, whereas the association with sex was less consistent. Conclusions: The results suggest that the COGTEL can readily be administered to large study populations and produces plausible and informative results. Education should be considered in all investigations using this instrument and requires further in-depth analyses. The rapid growth of the Internet and the proliferation of its new applications pose a serious challenge in network performance management and monitoring. The current Internet has no mechanism for providing feedback on network congestion to the end-systems at the IP layer. For applications and their end hosts, end-to-end measurements may be the only way of measuring network performance.
Understanding the packet delay and loss behavior of the Internet is important for proper design of network algorithms such as routing and flow control algorithms, for the dimensioning of buffers and link capacity, and for choosing parameters in simulation and analytic studies.
In this thesis, round trip time (RTT), one-way network delay and packet loss in the Internet are measured at different times of the day, using a Voice over IP (VoIP) device. The effect of clock skew on one-way network delay measurements is eliminated by a Linear Programming algorithm, implemented in MATLAB. Distributions of one-way network delay and RTT in the Internet are determined. It is observed that delay distribution has a gamma-like shape with heavy tail. It is tried to model delay distribution with gamma, lognormal and Weibull distributions. It is observed that most of the packet losses in the Internet are single packet losses. The effect of firewall on delay measurements is also observed.

As the size of image databases increases in time, the need for content based image indexing and retrieval become important. Image classification is a key to content based image indexing. In this thesis supervised learning with feed forward back propagation artificial neural networks is used for image classification. Low level features derived from the images are used to classify the images to interpret the high level features that yield semantics. Features are derived using detail histogram correlations obtained by Wavelet Transform, directional edge information obtained by Fourier Transform and color histogram correlations. An image database consisting of 357 color images of various sizes is used for training and testing the structure. The database is indexed into seven classes that represent scenery contents which are not mutually exclusive. The ground truth data is formed in a supervised fashion to be used in training the neural network and testing the performance. The performance of the structure is tested using leave one out method and comparing the simulation outputs with the ground truth data. Success, mean square error and the class recall rates are used as the performance measures. The performances of the derived features are compared with the color and texture descriptors of MPEG-7 using the structure designed. The results show that the performance of the method is comparable and better. This method of classification for content based image
indexing is a reliable and valid method for content based image indexing and retrieval, especially in scenery image indexing.

Performance Of A Transmit Delay Scheme In Digital Simulcast EnvironmentOzgur, Ayfer 01 August 2004 (has links) (PDF)
Simulcasting is a spectrally efficient wide area coverage technique that can be advantageous in private mobile radio applications such as emergency services. In a simulcast network, multiple base stations broadcast the same information on a single nominal carrier frequency, causing severe multipath interference at a receiver in the overlap region of several neighboring base stations. In this thesis, we introduce a transmit delay scheme for simulcast networks and investigate the performance of the scheme in LOS and Rayleigh fading environments. In this scheme a relative transmit delay is introduced between neighboring base stations to extend the differential delay between different paths in the overlap regions, from the order of the carrier period to the order of the symbol period, thus transform RF carrier interference into ISI. The receiver employs MLSE to obtain diversity gain from ISI. The performance of the system is evaluated using analytical bounds and simulations carried out for an MLSE based & / #960 / /4 DQPSK receiver and the results show that the proposed scheme operates succesfully, turning destructive interference disadvantage into a multipath diversity advantage, provided that a sufficient delay is used between the base stations. The &ldquo / sufficient&rdquo / delay value is determined by considering the coverage properties of the
scheme and is in fact &ldquo / optimum&rdquo / , since more than sufficient transmit delays result in useless increased receiver complexity. We provide our results using parameters for
the TETRA system, however, the results of the work can readily be used for other systems.

An analysis and simulation tool is developed for optimizing system parameters of the monopulse target tracking radar and observing effects of the system parameters on the performance of the system over different scenarios.
A monopulse tracking radar is modeled for measuring the performance of the radar with given parameters, during the thesis studies. The radar model simulates the operation of a Class IA type monopulse automatic tracking radar, which uses a planar phased array. The interacting multiple model (IMM) estimator with the Probabilistic Data Association (PDA) technique is used as the tracking filter. In addition to modeling of the tracking radar model, an optimization tool is developed to optimize system parameters of this tracking radar model. The optimization tool implements a Genetic Algorithm (GA) belonging to a GA Toolbox distributed by
Department of Automatic Control and System Engineering at University of Sheffield.
The thesis presents optimization results over some given optimization scenarios and concludes on effect of tracking filter parameters, beamwidth and dwell interval for the confirmed track.
