Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / Nesta pesquisa utilizou-se um equipamento experimental que utiliza o método do eco-impacto produzido no Laboratório de Ensaios Físicos do Instituto Politécnico do Rio de Janeiro (UERJ/IPRJ), para estimar a espessuras de placas de concreto através da propagação de ondas de tensão geradas por um impacto. Para determinação dessa espessura, foram investigados vários mecanismos de estruturação do protótipo do equipamento com objetivo de se obter a melhor leitura possível, por meio das literaturas existentes. Entre parâmetros avaliados no estudo, estava o modelo de sensor a ser utilizado, o tipo de impactor, a precisão relacionada à aquisição de dados e o tratamento do mesmo, a distância entre o ponto de impacto e o transdutor (sensor), e o local de teste. Os resultados experimentais concordam com as previsões teóricas e revelam que este método é eficiente para análise de estrutura de concreto. A análise da espessura e resposta em frequência de um novo protótipo desenvolvido e os testes realizados possibilitou um erro médio de espessura real para amostras sem agregados de 0,39% e para as amostras com agregados com de 0,64%. Esses resultados apontam que o equipamento produzido tem potencial e que o mesmo pode ser utilizado para avaliação de estrutura de concreto. / In this research we used an experimental device that uses the method of impact-echo on Physical Testing Laboratory of the Polytechnic Institute of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ/IPRJ), to estimate the thickness of concrete slabs through the propagation of stress waves generated by an impact. To determine this thickness, several mechanisms for structuring the prototype equipment in order to obtain the best possible reading by means of existing literatures were investigated. Among the parameters evaluated in the study was the model of sensor being used, the type of impact, the precision related to the data acquisition and processing thereof, the distance between the impact point and the transducer (sensor), and test site. The experimental results agree with the theoretical predictions and show that this method is effective for analyzing concrete structure. The thickness analysis and frequency response of a new prototype and testing allowed an average error of actual thickness for samples without aggregates and 0.39 % for samples with aggregates with 0.64 %. These results indicate that the product produced has potential and that it can be used for evaluation of concrete structure.

O objetivo deste trabalho é o desenvolvimento e implementação de metodologias de imagens por Ressonância Magnética Nuclear, para diminuição do tempo de aquisição, já que nos exames clínicos convencionais esse tempo é muito superior ao utilizado nessas seqüências, que é da ordem de T_ 2 , essas seqüências são baseadas na varredura única do espaço-k, convencionalmente denominada Echo Planar Imaging. Os propósitos de utilização dessa metodologia compreendem desde exames clínicos convencionais, em que se pretende analisar, em projetos futuros, eventos não periódicos de curta duração e a dinâmica dos sistemas biológicos estudados, até imagens de cavidades utilizando gases hiperpolarizados. As técnicas implementadas em comparação com as inicialmente propostas por Masfield apresentam uma diferença que é a inexistência do pulso de RF de inversão e, com isso, o tempo de duração das seqüências implementadas é ainda menor. Apenas não se deve esperar muito da qualidade das imagens sem o pós-processamento, uma vez que esse trabalho já está em andamento. / The objective of this work is the development and implementation of methodologies of images for Nuclear Magnetic Resonance, for reduction of the time of acquisition, since in the conventional clinical examinations this time is very superior to the used one in these sequences, that are of the order of T_ 2 , these sequences is based on the only sweepings of the space-k, conventionally called Echo Planar Imaging. The intentions of use of this methodology understand since conventional clinical examinations, where if it intends to analyze, in future projects, not periodic events of short duration and the dynamics of the biological systems studied, until socket images using hiperpolarizados gases. The techniques implemented in comparison with initially the proposals for Masfield present a difference that is the inexistence of the pulse of RF of inversion and, with this, the time of duration of the implemented sequences are still lesser. But if it does not have to wait very of the quality of the images without the after-processing, a time that this work already is in progress.

Previous issue date: 2005-09-21 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / The level measurement, besides the applications in reservoirs of industrial processes, as in the industries chemical, pharmaceutical, chemical petroleum, of I refine of alumina etc, it is applicable also in reservoirs exposed outdoors, such as dikes, lakes and ponds, dams and other. To measure level in most of the cases has great impact in the people's safety, of the environment, and of the involved process, besides influencing in the quality of the final product.
Level in several ways can be measured that space from a simple float to a sophisticated system for time of flight of waves that processes the information that returns after the emission of a sign. System as that can use several types of waves to take the information of the transmission, the most common are microwaves, infrared and the ultrasonic ones.
In that work a method is described that is used of the technique of the time of flight with the use of ultrasonic waves in association with the adaptive filtering to determine the location of the levels of the liquids contained in a container of known height. It is made a study of robustness of the method with base in simulations, through the variation of the relationship sign noise and of the sampling tax, in comparison with the results obtained with the use of Hilbert Transform, Fourier Transform and Wavelet Transform, considering the time of processing and the measurement uncertainty. / A medição de nível, além das aplicações em reservatórios de processos industriais, como nas indústrias químicas, farmacêuticas, petroquímicas, de refino de alumina etc., é aplicável também em reservatórios expostos ao ar livre, tais como diques, lagos e lagoas, barragens e outros. Medir nível na maioria dos casos tem grande impacto na segurança das pessoas, do meio ambiente, e do processo envolvido, além de influenciar na qualidade do produto final.
Pode-se medir nível de diversas formas que vão desde um simples flutuador até um sofisticado sistema por Tempo de Vôo de ondas que processa a informação que retorna na forma de eco refletido após a emissão de um sinal. Um Sistema como esse pode utilizar diversos tipos de ondas para levar a informação da transmissão, as mais comuns são microondas, infravermelhas e as ultra-sônicas.
Nesse trabalho descreve-se um método que se utiliza da técnica do Tempo de Vôo com o uso de ondas ultra-sônicas em associação com a filtragem adaptativa para determinar a localização dos níveis dos líquidos contidos em um recipiente de altura conhecida. É feito um estudo de robustez do método com base em simulações, através da variação da relação sinal ruído e da taxa de amostragem. Compara-se com os resultados obtidos com o uso da Transformada de Hilbert, Transformada de Fourier e da Transformada Wavelets, considerando o tempo de processamento e a incerteza na medição.

Deux méthodes d'imagerie par résonance magnétique sont proposées pour analyser in vivo le tissu cérébral de la matière blanche. La première méthode permet l'acquisition ultra-rapide de cartes des métabolites cérébraux par une lecture de l'espace réciproque répétée à des intervalles de quelques millisecondes à l'aide d'une nouvelle trajectoire excentrée, combinée à un gradient de retour. Une procédure de correction de phase, pour prévenir la formation d'artéfacts de repliement dans l'image et le spectre, est introduite sur la base de paramètres déterminés à partir du signal des protons de l'eau. Une acquisition des cartes métaboliques tridimensionnelles de la créatine, de la choline, du N-acétylaspartate, du glutamate et du myo-inositol ont été déterminées de manière fiable dans la substance blanche humaine à 3 Tesla avec une matrice de taille 32 × 32 × 16 et une résolution isotropique de 7 mm. La deuxième méthode permet l'acquisition d'un train de 32 images échantillonnées géométriquement le long d'une courbe de recroissance, en employant une série d'échos de gradient excités par un angle de bascule de 5° pour éviter des effets de saturation. Après transformée inverse de Laplace utilisant une régularisation spatiale, on obtient une distribution continue des temps de relaxation spin-réseau, T1. Dans la région de T1 entre 100 ms et 230 ms, on distingue un pic attribué à l'eau hydratant les membranes de la myéline. La fraction apparente de cette composante de l'eau de myéline augmente en fonction de l'intensité du champ magnétique, de 8,3 % à 3 Tesla, à 11,3 % à 4 Tesla, pour atteindre 15,0 % à 7 Tesla / Two magnetic resonance imaging methods are proposed for the in vivo investigation of human brain white matter tissue. The first method allows the ultra-fast acquisition of maps of brain metabolites by repeating the sampling of k-space at intervals of a few milliseconds, with a center-out trajectory combined with flyback gradients. A phase-correction procedure is introduced to prevent the formation of aliasing artifacts in the image and in the spectrum, on the basis of parameters determined from the signal of the ubiquitous water protons. An acquisition of threedimensional metabolite maps of creatine, choline, N-acetylaspartate, glutamate, and myo-inositol were determined reliably in human brain white matter at 3 Tesla with a 32 × 32 × 16 matrix and a 7-mm isotropic resolution. The second method enables the acquisition of a train of 32 images geometrically sampled along an inversion-recovery curve, using a series of gradient echoes excited by a low 5° flip angle to avoid saturation effects. After inverse Laplace transform, using a spatial regularization, a continuous distribution of the spin-lattice relaxation times, T1, is obtained. In the region of T1 between 100 ms and 230 ms, a small component is attributed to water hydrating myelin membranes. The apparent fraction of this myelin water component increases with the strength of the magnetic field, from 8.3% at 3 Tesla, to 11.3% at 4 Tesla, and 15.0% at 7 Tesla

Climate Translators: Broadcast New's Contribution to the Political Divide over Climate Change in the United StatesMacy, Dylan V 01 January 2020 (has links)
In many instances, television news is the primary outlet through which people gain knowledge on climate change. Both the perceived threat of climate change and American news media have grown politically divided since the 1980s. I make the argument that American news media influences the partisan divide over climate change. In addition to the political landscape of news media, focus on political events and figures in climate coverage further contributes to a partisan divide. Supporting these claims are research displaying how climate change news is processed in a partisan manner and a selection of three case study periods in which climate change coverage spiked among MSNBC, CNN, and Fox News in the last twenty years (2000-2019). I collected news footage from all three case studies using the online database archive.org. Using this footage, an accompanying documentary short was produced that focused on the Paris Climate Accord Withdrawal in 2017. Presented in the documentary and the three case study periods, Fox News held a consistently hands-off and dismissive tone towards climate change, while MSNBC and CNN implemented climate science into coverage while advocating for collective climate action. I report that media is selected and processed via partisanship among viewers; these case studies illustrate the ways in which news media drives the political divide on climate change. I conclude by offering some future ways climate coverage can be more unifying, such as more emphasis on the economic benefits of “a green economy” in news coverage.

Such predictions are part of nearly everyone’s daily lives through utilization in weather forecasting, prediction of regular and stock market, power consumption predictions and many more. Thesis is meant to familiarize reader firstly with theoretical basis of extreme learning machines and echo state networks, taking advantage of randomly generating majority of neural networks parameters and avoiding iterative processes. Secondly thesis demonstrates use of programing tools, such as ND4J and CUDA toolkit, to create very own programs. Finally, prediction capability and convenience of GPU acceleration is tested.

This work deals with digital signal processing in the field of adaptive filtering. Fundamental basics of adaptive filtering are described and primary aim is to create executable laboratory examples, using adaptive filtering, in LabView programming language. These laboratory examples are intended to be used by students fo studying and during laboratory lessons. Objective is to connect the examples with external devices, such as microphone. A microphone is used as an user's speech input acquiring interface. In the thesis is depicted Wiener's filter and problem of adaptive filtering is discussed. Contemporary adaptive algorithms are described and their applications as well. Most mentioned is the LMS algorithm and it's forms. Laboratory examples use following concepts: Adaptive Echo Cancellation, Active Noise Control and System Identification. Each of these examples is solely executable (need for LabView or Run-time engine), consisting also of theory with diagrams. Examples therefore are usable even without manual.
