Recovering Addiction: A Critique of Intoxicant Governance in the United States

January 2016 (has links)
abstract: This dissertation explores the historical development and contemporary deployment of discursive practices that constitute the “truth” of addiction, which in turn serve as the bases for interventions into the lives of people who use intoxicants for any number of reasons. A number of interrelated research questions structure this governmentality analysis. First, what is the evolution of the governmental frames developed and deployed to understand, discipline, and recover addiction in the arena of alcohol and illicit drug use in United States? Second, how does twelve-step serve to transform unruly addicts into self-disciplining citizens? Finally, how does The Meth Project (TMP) exemplify and/or diverge from the dominant addiction governmental frames developed during the Temperance and Progressive eras in the United States? My overall goal is to destabilize our ready understanding of addiction and demonstrate that it is as much a tool of social needs as it is a mental illness by demonstrating: 1) the historically contingent nature of our understandings of addiction and addicts; 2) how these historically contingent understandings are actualized as technologies geared toward “recovering” unruly subjects; and 3) how these historically contingent understandings are taken up as “epistemological scripts” used to conceptualize the “true nature” of certain types of drugs and drug users while simultaneously supporting various regimes of discipline and punishment for those determined to remain “unruly subjects.” / Dissertation/Thesis / Doctoral Dissertation Justice Studies 2016

Cloud-ready aplikace pro integraci kontaktů / Cloud-ready application for contact integration

Koblása, Michal January 2015 (has links)
The main objective is to implement integration application for contacts and communication that will meet the Cloud-ready specification, therefore is ready for deployment in a cloud computing environment. The thesis summarizes the recommendations of scientific papers, case studies and documentation from cloud providers for cloud-ready application. It also summarizes the methodology Twelve-Factor app, which brings together a set of recommendations for cloud applications. The second objective is to define specification of application to be implemented on the basis of identified persona and its problems will be transformed to specification and requirements. It is followed by design of the architecture to meet the principles for the run in the cloud environment. The fourth partial objective is to evaluate recovered principles, procedures and actual implementation. The main contribution of this work is implemented in an application that is able to integrate contacts and communication. Another contribution of this work is to summarize and validate basic recommendations on cloud ready application and methodology Twelve-factor app.

The Christology of Jesus' Disciples

Zolondek, Michael V 26 March 2010 (has links)
The question of whether Jesus claimed to be the Messiah, and if so in what sense, is one of the most important in historical Jesus research. Although many factors play a role in answering this question, one has been neglected for far too long: the Christology of Jesus’ disciples. This thesis provides a much needed analysis of the disciples’ view of Jesus. Numerous Gospel passages are evaluated using criteria, such as the criterion of multiple independent attestation and the criterion of embarrassment, to determine their historicity. These passages are then studied against the background of Second Temple Judaism to determine how the disciples viewed Jesus. The analysis demonstrates that from the time Jesus’ disciples first began following him they believed he was the Messiah. Ultimately, this conclusion strongly reinforces the view that Jesus made a messianic claim for himself.
