UTZ produkce jako alternativa fairtrade / UTZ production as fairtrade alternative

VALENTOVÁ, Věra January 2016 (has links)
This diploma thesis deals with certification program UTZ Certified representing a certain alternative to the fair trade system. The UTZ belongs to the biggest programs supporting sustainability primarily for coffee, cocoa and tea worldwide. The thesis is divided into two main parts, theoretical and practical. The theoretical component is focused on UTZ certification characteristics, determining essential terms, identifying commodities and conditions for its growing within the UTZ Certified. The attention is paid also to trading under fair trade conditions and regarding standards under Fairtrade and WFTO. The practical component deals with levels and product composition of the current offer of UTZ products on the market in chosen area. Furthermore, the focus is on the realization of consumer research aimed at knowledge and interest in UTZ products and fair trade from the consumers' stance. The outcomes obtained from the research done in the retail chain network show that the UTZ offer of products on the market really exists. The results also demonstrate that it is the matter of foreign retail chains whose UTZ offer is often created by products of own private brands. The widest offer of UTZ products was noted in retail chain Lidl, Albert and Kaufland. The product offer is clearly dominated by sweets and chocolate containing the certified UTZ cocoa. The consumer research was done via online questionnaire. Results demonstrate that less than half of Czech consumers are interested in certified products made under responsible production of fair trade and UTZ. The accountable part of consumers has troubles identifying these products on the market while shopping. The most favourite fair trade product is coffee. In case of UTZ, the most favourite product is cocoa. The main drivers for consumers' decision for buying these products is the guarantee of ecological and social consideration, trust in better quality and taste.

Young men at Oxford (1830-80) : routes into consumption and debt

Chaouche, Sabine January 2017 (has links)
Young men's consumption, especially that of students at Oxford, has not received much attention from scholars although they participated fully in the economic life of the University town by becoming customers, indeed often compulsive shoppers, as numerous Chancellor's Court and bankruptcy court cases suggest. My thesis provides a window onto male students' consumer culture and indebtedness, especially their link to the 'credit system'. 'Conspicuous consumption' and overspending was a marker of undergraduate culture which had two dialectical dynamics: students tried to position themselves in their community by displaying the signs and habits of the elite; and, simultaneously they went through a process of individualization, expressing particular tastes and their own extravagance. These processes reflect how students learnt their future roles as rulers by managing their private interests and public image, but also by developing a consumer experience, a majority of them becoming prudent economic agents. This dissertation explores consumption from both an individual and collective perspective. In particular it examines juvenile agency, going beyond the clichés of the 'great masculine renunciation' and the idea of prominent female shopping, reconstructing the different paths undertaken by young men, from their first steps into consumption, to consumption routine. It builds on diverse disciplines including social and economic history, retailing and advertising, education, law and gender studies to tackle a gap in the history of consumption, capitalism and trade in Oxford. Between 1830 and 1880, student consumerism was intertwined with the university reforms and the rise of competition between tradesmen. This study assesses education costs and budget constraints; commercial practices such as 'touting freshmen'; students' social background and insolvency; the use of long-term credit as a tool to drive consumption; and the formation of male identities through the purchase and display of different goods.

This work is inserted in the field of Urban Geography, specifically in the area of Trade and Consumer Geography and analyzes the consumption of ready food in the trailers of the city of Pelotas, Brazil. Analysis and development of an integrated model for assessment of the energy efficiency potential in the industrial sector.

Olanrewaju, Oludolapo Akanni. January 2013 (has links)
D. Tech. Industrial Engineering. / Discusses purpose of this study is to derive a new model capable of advanced diagnosis and analysis of energy usage to determine the possible energy efficiency potential through the following in a single model: Analysis of industrial historical data; Prediction of the industrial energy baseline; Computation of the industrial energy efficiency; and Optimization of the industrial energy consumption usage. In this context, the development of a new model involves: Carrying out literature survey; Carrying out Mathematical Analysis of the dynamics of energy efficiency in an industry; Critically analyzing and testing existing models; Evolve a new and novel model; Test the model using data from specific industry; Apply the model to eleven industrial sectors in South Africa. This thesis on energy efficiency potential will be a milestone for different stakeholders, policymakers and decision makers in the energy sector at national and international levels who are, or will be interested in reducing energy input and still produce the observed output levels, by becoming technically efficient. The approach adopted by the study is the integration of Index Decomposition Analysis (IDA), Artificial Neural Network (ANN) and Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) into a single model. This methodology combines modeling, which is at the core of an energy-management technique, with a wider interpretation of activity growth, structure and efficiency changes which contribute to changes in energy consumption.

In this research we investigated the relevance, the nature and the proportion of the trade of goods made possible by Facebook done in the city of Pelotas – RS by the intrinsic relationship of the concrete and virtual space. Thus, the present research was built in three moments: 1) the discussion about the present context; 2) considerations regarding the study of the trade and consumption of goods through the lens of historical and geographical context; and, 3) a case study in the city of Pelotas-RS about the commercial relationships established by SNW Facebook. To accomplish the case study, the dialectic method was employed and the study was based on Facebook groups dedicated to the trade of goods in the city of Pelotas-RS as well as four events in the same city that were organized and disclosed in its majority using Facebook: “Feira do Rolo”, “Fotroca”, “Piquenique Cultural” and “Sofá na Rua”. In terms of results, it was possible to evidence how Facebook and ICTs in general provide means for organization and disclosure in a way that profoundly influences the relations of trade provided by the researched groups as well as the concretization of the investigated events and the participation of the attendees. Another relevant result relates to the use and occupation of public urban spaces for the investigated events, as well as the spacial distribution of the trade of goods in the city of Pelotas-RS started in Facebook groups.
