Child-Level Predictors of Boys’ and Girls’ Trajectories of Physical, Verbal, and Relational Victimization

January 2015 (has links)
abstract: For some children, peer victimization stops rather quickly, whereas for others it marks the beginning of a long trajectory of peer abuse (Kochenderfer-Ladd & Wardrop, 2001). Unfortunately, we know little about these trajectories and what factors may influence membership in increasing or decreasing victimization over time. To address this question, I identified children's developmental patterns of victimization in early elementary school and examined which child-level factors influenced children's membership in victimization trajectories using latent growth mixture modeling. Results showed that boys and girls demonstrated differential victimization patterns over time that also varied by victimization type. For example, boys experienced more physical victimization than girls and increased victimization over time was predicted by boys who display high levels of negative emotion (e.g., anger) towards peers and low levels of effortful control (e.g., gets frustrated easily). Conversely, girls exhibited multiple trajectories of increasing relational victimization (i.e., talking about others behind their back) over time, whereas most boys experienced low levels or only slightly increasing relational victimization over time. For girls, withdrawn behavior lack of positive emotion, and displaying of negative emotions was predictive of experiencing high levels of victimization over time. / Dissertation/Thesis / Doctoral Dissertation Family and Human Development 2015

Entre madres-adolescentes y adolescentes-madres: un análisis de su trayectoria de vida y los factores que influyen en su configuración / Between teenage mothers and teenagers as mothers: an analysis about their life trajectories and the factors that influence their configuration

Mastro Naccarato, Irene Del 10 April 2018 (has links)
The main objectives of this research, that took place in Lima between 2012 and 2013, were to analyze: a) the consequences of teenage motherhood in education, labor and family and b) the factors that influence the reconfiguration of the life trajectories of the teenage mothers after the pregnancy period. After interviewing thirteen teenage mothers that come from different socioeconomic backgrounds and whose children age range between 2-5 years old, we find two types of trajectories: a) the teenage mother trajectory and b) the teenage as mother trajectory. The results of this research suggest that the socioeconomic background, gender, teenage culture and motherhood, as well as the experiences, characteristics and aspirations of each woman are key factors that shape the life trajectories of teenage mothers.

A Model of Palliative Care for Heart Failure

Hupcey, Judith E., Penrod, Janice, Fenstermacher, Kimberly 01 October 2009 (has links)
The heart failure illness trajectory is both complex and unpredictable, which makes providing palliative care services to patients with heart failure a challenge. As a result, although services are needed, few tend to be offered beyond basic medical management. The traditional model of palliative care is typically based on palliative care being considered a system of care delivery most appropriate for patients with a predictable illness/death trajectory, such as terminal cancer. This type of model, which is based on the ability to predict the course of a terminal disease, does not fit the heart failure trajectory. In this article, we propose a new model of palliative care that conceptualizes palliative care as a philosophy of care that encompasses the unpredictable nature of heart failure.

A Systematic Review of Longitudinal Trajectories of Mental Health Problems in Children with Neurodevelopmental Disabilities

Danielsson, H., Imms, C., Ivarsson, M., Almqvist, L., Lundqvist, L.-O., King, G., Lyngbäck, L.A., Andersson, A.K., Arnell, S., Arvidsson, P., Augustine, L., Brooks, Rob, Eldh, M., Engde, L., Engkvist, H., Gimbler Berglund, I., Green, D., Huus, K., Karlsson, C., Lygnegård, F., Sjödin, L., Granlund, M. 07 June 2023 (has links)
Yes / To review the longitudinal trajectories – and the factors influencing their development – of mental health problems in children with neurodevelopmental disabilities. Systematic review methods were employed. Searches of six databases used keywords and MeSH terms related to children with neurodevelopmental disabilities, mental health problems, and longitudinal research. After the removal of duplicates, reviewers independently screened records for inclusion, extracted data (outcomes and influencing factors), and evaluated the risk of bias. Findings were tabulated and synthesized using graphs and a narrative. Searches identified 94,662 unique records, from which 49 publications were included. The median publication year was 2015. Children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder were the most commonly included population in retrieved studies. In almost 50% of studies, trajectories of mental health problems changed by / Swedish Research Council (2018-05824_VR)
