The main goal was revealing the ways the future technical professionals entered the school and also the reasons which have led choosing a technical course, revealing thus the social, economic, and cultural constraints that conducted to this level of education. There were recalled important Historical and sociological aspects of Professional Teaching in Brazil and in the City of São Carlos in order to understand the relationship between the researched school and the society that has produced it, as well as, bibliographical studies which reflect and analyze education, labor and educational institutions. The motivations and frustrations found during the achieving of this study are also registered. The resources used were interviews granted by the six alumni, where they have reported their personal family, educational and professional trajectories. Therefore we believe such personal professional choice isn t bound at random and that economic and sociocultural conditions are guidelines so youngsters enter in the Brazilian technical teaching. The Escola Técnica Estadual Paulino Botelho fulfills its role by enabling youngsters entering the work market. / Esta pesquisa visou estudar e analisar as trajetórias de seis dos ex-alunos do curso técnico em eletrônica, da atual Escola Técnica Estadual Paulino Botelho, antiga Escola Profissional de São Carlos. Nosso objetivo foi explicitar de que forma os futuros profissionais técnicos ingressaram na escola e quais os motivos que os levaram a escolher um curso técnico, desvelando, assim, os condicionantes sociais, econômicos e culturais que os direcionaram para esse nível de ensino. Aspectos históricos e sociológicos do ensino profissional no Brasil e na cidade de São Carlos foram resgatados, sendo estes essenciais para entendermos a relação entre a Escola pesquisada e a sociedade que a produziu, assim como, estudos bibliográficos que refletem e analisam educação, trabalho e instituições escolares. As motivações e frustrações que encontramos para realização deste estudo também foram registradas aqui. As fontes utilizadas foram as entrevistas concedidas pelos seis ex-alunos encontrados. Nelas, eles relataram suas trajetórias familiar, escolar e profissional. Entendemos, portanto, que essa escolha pessoal profissional não é fadada ao acaso e que condicionantes econômicos e socioculturais dão a direção para que jovens ingressem no ensino técnico brasileiro. A Escola Técnica Estadual Paulino Botelho cumpre seu papel, habilitando jovens para atuarem no mercado de trabalho.
