Dynamic platinum(II)- based metallosupramolecular architectures

Pike, Sarah Jane January 2012 (has links)
Over the past two decades, transitions metals have been extensively employed towards the construction (using coordination driven assembly) and operation (using reversible metal-ligand switching motifs) of supramolecular architectures. This Thesis details the investigation of an array of dynamic platinum(II)-based metallosupramolecular architectures and includes a series of model studies on switchable platinum(II) coordination modes. Chapter Two describes the synthesis and study of a series of prototype noninterlocked molecular machines. The inherent dynamics of intramolecular metalligand substitution reactions (metallotrophic shifts) are exploited to drive a d8 platinum(II-)-phenanthroline component along different ligating architectures to achieve translational (and in one case rotary) motion of the sub-molecular components. Variable temperature NMR studies of these complexes have established the kinetic parameters for the observed shuttling processes. In Chapter Three, the switchable behaviour of a metal-ligand coordination motif is reported in which a proton input is employed to modify the overall thermodynamic bias and light is orthogonally utilized to selectively lower the energetic barrier for the binding event to re-equilibration. A discussion of the light-promoted ligand exchange reaction is presented, supported by a combination of TD-DFT calculations and kinetic studies. Chapter Four describes the exploitation of this discovered pH-switchable metalligand motif for the stimuli-responsive reversible assembly of two dimensional and three dimensional metallosupramolecular architectures. Whilst Chapter Five details how this reversible motif can be exploited to induce controlled exchange between “3+1” and “2+2” square planar platinum donor sets in response to the application of acid-base stimuli.

In this work, twelve coordination compounds involving transition metals Mn2+, Co2+, Ni2+, Cu2+ and Zn2+, polinitriles anions dicyanamide (dca) and 2,2-dicyano-1-ethoxyethenolate (dcne) and the aromatic nitrogen ligands 5,5'-dimethyl-2,2'-dipyridine (dmdpy) and 1,10-phenanthroline (phen) are presented. These compounds were characterized by elemental analysis (CHN), thermal analysis (TG/DTA), IR spectroscopy, and single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. In addition, compound Zndcadmdpy was also characterized by 1H and 13C NMR. These twelve compounds are grouped according to the ligands used. Thus, four series of compounds (Mdcadmdpy, Mdcafen, Mdcnedmdpy, MdmdpyNO3) and an independent compound ([Cu2(dmdpy)2Cl4]) have been described. It was observed that all compounds in the Mdcadmdpy series and Cudcafen are coordination polymers while other compounds are only complex. Through measurements of magnetization as a function of temperature and Electron Paramagnetic Resonance (EPR) observed the presence of weak antiferromagnetic interactions among metal sites of certain compounds. All compounds are novel, except Cudcadmdpy and Cudcafen already been reported in the literature.1, 2

Développement de nouvelles réactions dominos catalysées par les métaux de transition impliquant une étape de fonctionnalisation C-H / Development of dominos reactions catalyzed by transition metals with C-H functionalization

Tran, Lâm Quang 03 December 2015 (has links)
The direct functionalization of C-H bonds experiencing exponential growth for the past decade. Catalyzed by transition metals, these changes offer an advantage in terms of "green chemistry" and since they allow diversity to overcome the pre-functionalization of the bond to be modified and thus work from simple precursors. Associated with domino process, these reactions often provide efficient access to many heterocycles. It is in this context that fit my thesis work consisting of the development of domino reactions catalyzed by transition metals to design nitrogen heterocycles. We have developed a method which, by choosing wisely precursors, allow a cyclization, catalyzed copper still, giving access to benzimidazole compounds or quinazoline by functionalization C-H. Finally, by integrating the presence of a nitrile function in the multi-component copper catalyzed reaction, we develop an alternative post-cyclization to lead to the formation of quinazolin-2,4-diamine, dihydro-2-amine or benzimidazoquinazoline. In this approach the methodology allows the formation up to 4 chemical bonds through the use of a single catalyst. We have therefore developed a multi-component reaction to access differents structures from a simple methodology, economic cost.
