Das Tropenrepertoire der Kathedrale von Chartres im 13. Jahrhundert im europäischen Kontext: Untersuchungen anhand der Handschrift Provins Bibliotèque Municipale 12 (24) und Transkription / The 13th century trope repertoire of the Chartres Cathedral in the European context: Studies based on the manuscript Provins Bibliotèque Municipale 12 (24)and its transcription

The early 13th century trope gradual Provins 12 from Chartres cathedral is a testimony for the late usage of tropes in North of France. The subject of my study is the repertoire of the proper liturgy tropes from the manuscript Provins 12. The available collection of tropes comprises 132 items. In my dissertation, I have examined the tropes concerning their regional specifics and historical layers, taking into account provenance and transfer routes within the tradition of sharing tropes. The aim was to clarify the following questions: What position does the trope collection from Chartres occupy within the European context of liturgy tradition? Can we regard the existing repertoire as a local or regional product, or can we speak of historical interleaving of tropes?

Rétorické figury v překladu neliterárních textů / Figures of speech in non-literary translations

Mazancová, Zuzana January 2011 (has links)
The present thesis deals with figures of speech in non-literary texts and with the problems connected to their translation. The first part is dedicated to the theoretical description of figures of speech. First we deal with their definition according to the Czech and Spanish terminology and next we proceed to the figures that can be expected in popular science texts. We deal mainly with metaphors, their classification and opinions of translation scientists about the possibilities of their translation; but we mention also simile, metonymy and synecdoche. The second chapter is dedicated to popular science texts, to the problems connected to their translation, to the presence of metaphors in this type of texts and to their translation. In the second part we describe the analysed texts and the methods used in our work; the third part deals with the results of our analysis. During our analysis we found the same amount of figures of speech in both languages. Metaphors predominate in both languages, but while in Czech they represent the absolute majority of all figures, in Spanish they represent only a half of all the examples. Personification also appears many times in Spanish texts, but in Czech texts it doesn't appear in such a large measure. Metonymy, synecdoche and rhetorical question are represented...

Panoptikální tropologie a svár mezi uměním a politikou v povídkách Charlese Johnsona / Panoptical tropes and negotiations between art and politics in Charles Johnson's short fiction

Ženíšek, Jakub January 2017 (has links)
Doctoral dissertation: Panoptical tropes and negotiations between art and politics in Charles Johnson's short fiction Abstract The dissertation traces the uneasy marriage between ideology and aesthetics in African American literature, and its reflections in Charles Johnson's short fiction. The historical introduction is an attempt to reevaluate the tradition of ideological self-policing in African American literature. Its central thesis resides in the claim that African American literature and its critical reception has still retained some of this ideological template, in a manner and degree that throws it out of sync with the mainstream trajectory of American literature. This lingering anachronism cannot be legitimately attributed to a single causative circumstance, yet one of the more obvious explanations for this residual trend is the living memory of overt discriminatory practices in many parts of the United States, which is why the centrifugal literary discourses of assimilationism and protest fiction are still very vibrant. This simple argument alone provides a sufficient basis for contextualizing and understanding the thesis that ideological writing still inadvertently manages to find its way into African American fictional pursuits. This is also underscored by the observable fact that even the...
