The influence of flight delays on business travellersVictor, Colette 17 September 2010 (has links)
The main aim of the study was to assess the influence of flight delays on business travellers. Studies on flight delays have been done from a number of perspectives; these include the reasons for flights delays, the costs to airlines and airports, the effect on airline scheduling and the impact on airline market share. An area that has received little, if any, attention is the impact of flight delays on business travellers, one of the most lucrative markets for airlines. This study empirically researches the direct cost of flight delays to travellers of a specific corporation. In addition, the use of mobile technology in communicating the occurrence of flight delays to business travellers, and how this could alleviate traveller frustrations, are discussed from a theoretical perspective. The study followed a quantitative methodology to determine man-hours lost and the direct costs of flight delays to travellers from a selected corporation. Two data sets were used, one provided by the corporation on flights undertaken by their corporate travellers over a predetermined period, the other by the Air Traffic and Navigation Services (ATNS) on all flights over the same period. The two sets of data were matched and analysed to determine which flights undertaken by the corporate travellers were delayed, based on actual arrival times, and if any significant relationships could be determined between flight delays and types of traveller (frequent versus infrequent) or specific time periods (time of day, day, week and month). The results indicated that frequent travellers experienced the majority of flight delays, and consequently represented the greatest cost to the corporation. The study also found significant relationships between substantial delays and the month of the year, day of the week, and the time of day flown. The identification of patterns could provide business travellers with the information to better manage their travel arrangements and optimise their travel times and costs. In calculating the direct monetary cost, the value of time lost was found not to constitute a substantial amount to the corporation, but this result must be viewed against the limitations of the study. This study serves to provide a foundation for future research into the cost of flight delays to business travellers. Future research should include larger samples (large global or multiple companies could be used) and extend the time periods for assessing delays. Future studies could also include other direct and indirect costs not covered here and the study could be replicated in different geographical areas, particularly areas with a high density of flights such as Asia, the United States of America and Europe. Political, social and cultural integration of the immigrants from India in the United States of America / Political, social and cultural integration of the immigrants from India in the United States of AmericaRezková, Hana January 2008 (has links)
This paper deals with the political, social and cultural integration of the immigrants from India in the United States of America. The last and so far the biggest wave of Asian Indian immigration to the U.S. began after 1965 with the passage of the new Immigration Act. Today, there are more than 2.5 million Asian Indian immigrants living in the U.S. The aim of this thesis is to analyze the chronology of events and history of U.S. immigration laws concerning Asian, and particularly Asian Indian, immigrants. Building on this analysis, the goal is further to show how the immigrants were being discriminated against and how they managed to integrate successfully into the mainstream American society despite many cases of refusal and acts based on prejudice. The Social Integration part analyzes possible problems in the Asian Indian immigrant family living in the U.S., their attitudes towards education, and finally their success at work. The Cultural Integration part includes the topic of multiculturalism, issues of conflict and communication, differences between the American and Indian culture, as well as religion, holidays, and traditions.

Great Society Lyndona Johnsona - cesta k bohatší Americe, nebo ke krachu? / Lyndon Johnson's Great Society: a path to prosperity or collapse?Strejček, Ivo January 2013 (has links)
The Great Society programs, enacted in the mid 1960's under president Lyndon B. Johnson's administration, remain even after more than a half-century a controversial topic of American economic history. This thesis analyzes the main measures of the Great Society in context of escalating public expenditures to finance the Vietnam War. The results show major impact of the Great Society deepening of problems the US economy in the 1970's and for current structural imbalances of the Federal budget. The link with closing of the "golden window" is rather indirect and causes of unilateral break of Bretton-Woods Agreement was caused mainly by expansionary monetary policy and seeking of full employment level by the Nixon administration.

Interpretace výškopisu na topografických mapách USA / Interpretation of altitude on topographic maps USAPavelková, Zuzana January 2013 (has links)
The thesis aims to analyze the altitude interpretation of the topographic maps of the U.S. and to compare them with Czech topographic maps. I have obtained the source materials for completion of the thesis during the Work and Travel exchange program in the U.S. in 2012, which also inspired me to deal with this thesis topic. The most important producer of U.S. topographic maps is the national company United States Geological Survey, which uses the U.S. customary units based on the Anglo-American measurement system that make a significant difference when interpreting the altitude of U.S. topographic maps and Czech ones. The fact that American society does not use the metric system very much, results in the use of map scales that are unique and very unusual for topographic maps. Another important producer is the company Army Map Service. Since the U.S.A. and the Czech Republic are both member states of North Atlantic Treaty Organization, the production of military topographic maps strictly adheres to the NATO standards.

Corruption - no rule of law - no democracy: could separately elected Attorneys General in a divided executive give Africa new hope? Experiences from the U. States of AFernandez, J. Todd January 2008 (has links)
History has proven that, if freed from the grasp of the unitary executive, the
elected Attorney General flourishes as a lawyer for the law dedicated above all else to the "public interest." In light of these proven benefits, the pressing question becomes whether this tested design can help the people of Africa as they fight to reclaim their wayward governments. Might a popularly elected Attorney General steady the bridge so Africa can pass through to freedom and prosperity? More immediately,
does the divided executive with its elected attorney general represent a new hope for
Africa in combating corruption? The author takes a critical look at the evolution of the elected Attorney General and uses the role of the Attorney General in the United States of America as an example.
The author concludes that perhaps now is the time to start creating the history of Africa’s ultimate escape from the endless vestiges of colonialism still embedded in the unitary executive. Maybe now is the time for the peoples of Africa to borrow an idea from their American cousins and get their own lawyer! / Thesis (LLM (Human Rights and Democratisation in Africa)) -- University of Pretoria, 2008. / A Dissertation submitted to the Faculty of Law University of Pretoria, in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree Masters of Law (LLM in Human Rights and Democratisation in Africa).
