In between the congested crowded urban layout of old districts in Hong Kong, it is not hard to discover one and another small left behind “gaps” in between the buildings. These lots, being left over, are either as land banking lots, or rented out for short-term tenancy. They, as being falling into the result of urban renewal, have an ultimate destiny of being redeveloped, but well before that, they are just leave there and wait for their other accompanies, in order to redevelop as a larger foot print. While the short 4 to 9 storey tall old Tong Lau had been redeveloped into 30-storey tall high-rise building, the capacity of affordable households had been raised significantly. Under the government policy of providing 1 m2 of open space per person, the growth of open space is obviously cannot catch up with the rapid redevelopment of old district. The urban land banked gaps, as a byproduct of the urban renewal process, are actually could be taken as a potential buffer to the imbalance development speed of urban redevelopment and open space. In connection to the temporary nature of the urban gaps, this thesis is aimed to focus on temporary landscape and to provide a sustainable strategy for coordination of different stakeholders, so as to utilize the gaps in a more valuable and sustainable way. Based on three main concerns: temporary, flexibility and sustainability, this thesis will test out how the strategy, in operational and design aspect, could work. Sabemos que esta Companhia Ferroviária teve como principal característica o caráter exploratório e integrador do território brasileiro, trazendo uma importância econômica, política e urbanística no que se refere à articulação dos meios de locomoção para as cidades nas quais instalou seu conjunto de edifícios. O objetivo geral deste trabalho é analisar a transformação da paisagem por meio da implantação da ferrovia e sua infraestrutura operacional na tecedura urbana, no arco temporal compreendido pela primeira metade do século XX, em ambos os casos apresentados, levando em conta as especificidades de cada território, uma vez que a EFNOB parte de Bauru (SP), seu quilômetro inicial, em 1906 e chega em Campo Grande (MS) em 1914. A metodologia de trabalho compreende mapeamentos, pesquisas documentais, levantamentos bibliográficos e entrevistas. Será utilizado como procedimento metodológico as cinco portas da paisagem de Jean-Marc Besse, indicando possíveis chaves para a leitura e compreensão das paisagens estudadas. Esta leitura servirá de embasamento para a análise da urbanização e construção da paisagem local e para futuras propostas de diretrizes de preservação destes bens. / Abstract: The present research presents an analysis of the construction of the landscape based on the railway complex built by the Estrada de Ferro Noroeste of Brazil (EFNOB) in the city of Bauru (SP) and Campo Grande (MS) at the beginning of the 20th century. We know that this Railway Company had as its main characteristic the exploratory and integrative nature of the Brazilian territory, bringing economic, political, urban and inclusive importance as regards the articulation of the means of locomotion, to the cities which installed its set of buildings. The general objective of this work is to analyze the transformation of the urban landscape through the implantation of the railroad and its operational infrastructure in the urban weaving, in the temporal arc comprised in the first half of the 20th century in each case, taking into account the specificities of each territory, since EFNOB departs from Bauru (SP), its initial kilometer, in 1906 and arrives in Campo Grande (MS) in 1914. The methodology of work comprises the inventory of sets of railway buildings, Mappings, documentary surveys, bibliographical surveys and interviews. The 5 doors of the landscape of Jean-Marc Besse will be used as methodological procedure, indicating possible keys for reading and understanding the landscapes studied. This reading will serve as a basis for understanding the urbanization and construction of the local landscape and for future proposals of guidelines for the preservation of these assets. / Mestre

Foi implantado na Avenida Dr. Vital Brasil, na cidade de Botucatu, SP. O presente projeto foi dividido em três partes, que se complementaram no processo de planejamento e implantação, denominados aspectos fenológicos, locacionais e sociais. Foi realizado o plantio da espécie Jacaranda mimosaefolia, no canteiro central da avenida, e a Tibouchina mutabilis nas calçadas. Para os aspectos fenológicos foi estudada a utilização da escória de siderurgia, um resíduo industrial, em substituição ao calcário dolomítico, e o uso do composto de lodo de esgoto, um resíduo urbano, em substituição ao esterco de gado. Para escolha das espécies e local de plantio das mudas, foi utilizada uma metodologia específica com auxílio de alunos da matéria de Arborização Urbana da Faculdade de Ciências Agronômicas da UNESP de Botucatu. Na parte social, o envolvimento do poder público e população local propôs maior comprometimento da comunidade para realização e sucesso do projeto. Como resultado fenológico, confirmou-se a possibilidade de substituição do adubo orgânico e do corretivo utilizados anteriormente, por resíduos urbanos e industriais. Resultado satisfatório também ocorreu na instalação das mudas, nas quais o presente projeto demonstrou a importância do estudo especializado do local de implantação das mudas e da maior participação da comunidade / Abstract: The research project "Afforestation implement on public streets, phenology, physical and social aspects" suggests a sustainability model in urban forestry. It was deployed on Dr. Vital Brasil Avenue, in Botucatu city, São Paulo, Brazil. The project was divided in three parts that complement themselves in the process of planning and implantation, named as phenological, locational and social aspects. The specie Jacaranda mimosaefolia was planted in the flower-bed of the avenue and the specie Tibouchina mutabilis on the sidewalks. For the phenological aspects, it was used an industrial residue, substituting the calcareous dolomitic, and the sewage sludge residue, an urban residue, instead of the cattle manure. For choosing the species and the place of planting, it was used a specific methodology, combining the work of students coursing the subject Urban Afforestation at the Agronomy College, UNESP University, in Botucatu. The involvement of the local community and the government was very important for the achievement and success of the project. As a phenological result, it was confirmed that it is possible to substitute the organic fertilizer for urban and industrial residues. The project had good results on the seedling plantation, in which the results showed that it is very important to have a preview local study and community involvement / Doutor
