A pesquisa aqui desenvolvida buscou investigar qual o tipo de sociedade que vem sendo produzida a partir das mudanças sócio-espaciais implementadas no Rio de Janeiro desde a haussmanização da cidade durante a gestão municipal de Pereira Passos, bem como as alternativas recentemente elaboradas para garantir o direito à cidade especialmente o acesso à moradia, com potencial para a realização de outros direitos tais como ao poder, aos bens e serviços concentrados nos centros urbanos. Inicialmente, identificamos as características da sociedade urbana sob o capitalismo para pensarmos as possibilidades de transformação dessa realidade pela ação dos sujeitos sociais cujo direito à cidade só pode ser conquistado mediante mudanças econômicas e políticas estruturais. O referencial teórico elaborado por Henri Lefebvre e Jean Lojkine foi fundamental para a compreensão dos aspectos político-econômico e sócio-cultural do urbano capitalista, bem como a obra de Florestan Fernandes para pensarmos sua especificidade em situação de dependência. Sob esse prisma, refletimos aspectos fundamentais relativos aos projetos e práticas de urbanização empreendidos na cidade do Rio de Janeiro, especialmente aqueles destinados à área central. Área na qual vão se localizar em princípios do século XXI ocupações de imóveis ociosos com a intenção de torná-los moradia popular, cujas características são analisadas a fim de verificarmos seus limites e possibilidades no que tange à efetivação da democracia plena na brasileira através da luta pelo direito à cidade. / The inquiry here developed looked there investigated which the type of society that is when space-partner was produced from the changes when Passos were implemented in the Rio de Janeiro from the haussmanização of the city during the municipal administration of Pereira Passos, as well as the alternatives recently prepared to guarantee the right to the city specially the access to the dwelling, with potential for the realization of other rights such as to the power, to the goods and services concentrated on the urbane centers. Initially, we identify the characteristics of the urbane society under the capitalism to think the means of transformation of this reality for the action of the social subjects whose right to the city can only be conquered by means of structural economical and political changes. The theoretical referential system prepared by Henri Lefebvre and Jean Lojkine was basic for the understanding of the aspects economical, political, cultural and social of the urbane capitalist, as well as the work of Florestan Fernandes in order that his especificidade thought about dependence situation. Through this prism, we reflect basic aspects relative to the projects and practices of urbanization undertaken in the city of the Rio de Janeiro, specially those destined to the central area. Area in which they are going to locate in beginnings of the century XXI occupations of idle real estate with the intention of making them popular dwelling, which characteristics are analysed in order that we check his limits and means as regards the realization of the full democracy in the Brazilian through the struggle for the right to the city.
