Storage and retrieval technique for K-value estimation

Joag, Ela Pramod 14 February 2011 (has links)
Many chemical processes need large computation time to simulate. It has been observed that the speed of a process simulation depends to a large extent on evaluation of certain important functions in the system to be simulated. One such function is K-value estimation function which involves heavy vapor-liquid equilibrium calculations. Because of large number of K-value calculations, there can be a bottleneck in simulation convergence. Thus within process simulation applications computational speed is often emphasized and accuracy is compromised. In situ adaptive tabulation or ISAT, a storage and retrieval technique is proposed for speeding up K-value estimation in a process simulator (CHEMCAD®) using the input-output data. C language code is developed to implement ISAT algorithm for this application. The C code is then converted into Dynamic link library to be able to be used vii by main CHEMCAD® code as required. The overall testing with different K-value databases gave promising results improving computational time while maintaining accuracy. / text

Méthodes informées de factorisaton matricielle pour l'étalonnage de réseaux de capteurs mobiles et la cartographie de champs de pollution / Informed method of matrix factorization for calibration of mobile sensor networks and pollution fields mapping

Dorffer, Clément 13 December 2017 (has links)
Mobile crowdsensing aims to acquire geolocated and timestamped data from a crowd of sensors (from or connected to smartphones). In this thesis, we focus on processing data from environmental mobile crowdsensing. In particular, we propose to revisit blind sensor calibration as an informed matrix factorization problem with missing entries, where factor matrices respectively contain the calibration model which is a function of the observed physical phenomenon (we focus on approaches for affine or nonlinear sensor responses) and the calibration parameters of each sensor. Moreover, in the considered air quality monitoring application, we assume to pocee- some precise measurements- which are sparsely distributed in space and time - that we melt with the multiple measurements from the mobile sensors. Our approaches are "informed" because (i) factor matrices are structured by the problem nature, (ii) the physical phenomenon can be decomposed using sparse decomposition with a known dictionary or can be approximated by a physical or a geostatistical model, and (iii) we know the mean calibration function of the sensors to be calibrated. The proposed approaches demonstrate better performances than the one based on the completion of the observed data matrix or the multi-hop calibration method from the literature, based on robust regression. Finally, the informed matrix factorization formalism also provides an accurate reconstruction of the observed physical field.

Conception et évaluation de techniques d'interaction non visuelle optimisées pour de la transmission d'information / Design and evaluation of techniques non-visual interaction optimized for the transmission of information

Appert, Damien 27 May 2016 (has links)
In situations where the visual perception is strongly constraint or deficient, it is necessary to make perceptible the information with a "not visual form" while taking into account human sensory and mnesic capacities. For example, a blind person wishing to acquaint an itinerary must read it under a non visual form and memorize it. However, besides the material aspect, the implementation of alternatives (non-visual) still faces to the cognitive abilities of the user (comprehension, memorization, integration of various information, etc.). The purpose of this thesis is to contribute to the design of interaction techniques allowing to optimize the transmission not visual of the information. For these purposes, I explored the feature of multimodality as a means of optimization, allowing of exceeding the memorization limits. I focused on the study of interaction techniques based on auditory and tactile modalities and by minimizing the use of the speech, in order to develop techniques for different environments (flexibility), optimize the use of perceptual channels (operating the properties of sound in audio messages to transmit more information, for example), avoid limiting my techniques by the language barrier or understanding and finally, to explore alternatives to the synthesised voice alone. The works of my thesis led to the design, to the implementation and to the evaluation of interaction techniques "non-visual" and "multiform", in answer to different contexts, whom in particular those of the information transmission of type <value>, <position> (pair of coordinates) and <itinerary> (sequence of couples direction-distance). To achieve design my interactions, I have made a review of literature in order to extract the main factors of design of interaction techniques dedicated to the transmission not visual of the information. Then, I have organized these factors in an analytical framework on which I have relied to design each of my techniques. Three separate experiments were led to evaluate the influence of design factors on the effectiveness of interactions and satisfaction towards users of technology. I can give some of them, the involvement of users (active or passive), the presence of explicit help, the transmission of several information in parallel, the main modality used and the type of coding in which is encoded the information.
