O foco se centra no universo rural do Vale do Paraíba sul-fluminense, através da análise de uma série de processos-crime referentes à antiga Comarca de Vassouras. São abordadas práticas cotidianas como o trabalho no eito, o convívio em senzalas coletivas e os encontros para o Caxambú. Estes últimos levaram a pesquisa ao universo do Jongo no século XX, como forma de investigar as linhas de ontinuidade de uma tradição oral, o papel da memória na reinvenção de práticas sócio-culturais e sua relevância na construção de identidades / Abstract: Thiswork is an approach of theformation process of african identities, in the southeastern brazil of the XIXth. century. lt considers dtfferent aspects of atribution, illcorporation e rejection of certain idl.mtitiesin laves every-day practices. The atention is on the south Vale do Paraíba, in mo de Janeiro. lt was made an analysis of a series of criminal processes from the old Comarca de Vassourar;; as to permit the approach of practices like working in the field, of living together in coletive quarters, and the Caxambú meetings.
