No entanto, os usuários possuem dificuldades no momento de realizar as buscas por assunto, pois os termos que utilizam não coincidem com os atribuídos na indexação. Essa problemática do catálogo de assunto, muita vezes, é o reflexo da falta de estudos de usuários e de uma política de indexação que oriente a indexação. Com o objetivo de contribuir para a elaboração de política de indexação em bibliotecas universitárias realizou-se o estudo diagnóstico do contexto sociocognitivo de usuários integrantes de grupos de pesquisa nas áreas de Ciências Biológicas, Exatas e Humanas da UNESP, para obter sua percepção com relação à indexação. O desenvolvimento do estudo diagnóstico constou de fundamentação teórica sobre o processo de indexação no âmbito da política de indexação em ambientes institucionais; estudo de percepção de usuários para investigar metodologia de abordagem sociocognitiva mediante Protocolo Verbal; e análise da percepção do usuário de grupo de pesquisa acerca da indexação em bibliotecas universitárias para o desenvolvimento dos catálogos on-line. Os resultados demonstraram que alguns elementos de política de indexação fazem parte do processo da indexação, como por exemplo, exaustividade, especificidade e escolha da linguagem. However, users have difficulties when they do their search by subject, because the words they use do not coincide with the terms used by the librarian at the time of indexing. Consequently, the retrieval of information becomes silent and with noise. This issue of the catalogue of subject is often the reflection of a possible deficiency of the work done by librarians, since they do not study about users in order to know their interests and opinions concerning the treatment of the documents content. It is also a reflection of the lack of an indexing policy that guides the steps of indexing. Aiming to contribute to the development of an indexing policy in university libraries under the users' perspective, the proposal os this research was to do a study of the socio-cognitive context of users who are members of research groups in the areas of Biological and Exact Sciences and Humanities from UNESP, to get a diagnosis of their perception regarding the indexing context. The specific objectives were: developing a study on the indexing process under the indexing policy in institutional environments; investigating a method of a socio-cognitive approach by Verbal Protocol to study the users' perception; verifying the perception of the user who participates in a research group on indexing information in university libraries for the development of online catalogues. Quando a linguagem documentária não oferece compatibilidade com a linguagem de busca do usuário, compromete a qualidade da pesquisa realizada e a credibilidade do Sistema de Informação quanto à sua eficácia na recuperação da informação documentária e satisfação do usuário. Dessa maneira, a proposição é avaliar, por meio da observação do usuário, a linguagem documentária DeCS - Descritores em Ciências da Saúde, utilizada para a recuperação da informação no sistema LILACS (Literatura Latino-Americana e do Caribe em Ciências da Saúde), com o intuito de obter indicadores para delinear as estratégias de aprimoramento da linguagem na área de Fonoaudiologia. Para avaliação dessa linguagem empregou-se a técnica do protocolo verbal ou "pensar alto" (thinking aloud), tendo como sujeitos pesquisadores do Departamento de Fonoaudiologia da Faculdade de Odontologia de Bauru da Universidade de São Paulo - FOB-USP. A aplicação dessa técnica foi realizada no próprio ambiente de trabalho dos sujeitos, tendo sido verificado, anteriormente, o conhecimento de cada um deles no acesso ao sistema LILACS, bem como na utilização da linguagem DeCS. A partir de então, foram selecionados quatro sujeitos representantes das quatro especialidades formadoras da área de Fonoaudiologia: Linguagem, Voz, Motricidade Oral e Audiologia, e observados, com protocolo verbal, na tarefa de realizar a recuperação de informações, no campo de descritor de assunto da interface de busca da base de dados LILACS... (Resumo completo, clicar acesso eletrônico abaixo). / Abstract: The Indexing language, a mediator tool of the indexing information between the information system and the user, plays a crucial role in the access to information, providing a satisfaction in information retrieval and, thus, the generation of scientific knowledge which adds to the welfare of society. Hen the indexing language is not compatible with the userþs search language, it jeopardizes the quality of the research performed and the credibility of the information system as to its efficacy in retrieving indexing information and the userþs satisfaction. Therefore, the proposition is to assess, by observing the user, the DeCS - Health Sciences Descriptors indexing language, utilized for the retrieval of information in the LILACS system (LILACS - Latin American and Caribbean Health Sciences), aiming at obtaining indicators to outline strategies to improve the language in the field of Speech- Language Pathology and Audiology. The verbal protocol technique (thinking aloud) was utilized to evaluate this language, having as subjects, researchers of the Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology Department at the Dental School - University of São Paulo - FOB-USP, at Bauru, SP. The "Documentary Reading Model for Indexing of Scientific Articles by Fujita (2003a) is a proposal of improvement and evolution of the methodology of indexing through the indexer's metacognition (non-automatized behaviour as the reader is conscious of how the reading is being carried out), using the knowledgement of textual structures of the reader, relying on strategies of systematic approach of concepts offered in his education. Considering the learning of the documentary reading process in classroom, it is searched into the applicability of this Model as pedagogical resource to apprentice indexers. By means of introspective technique of data collecting of the Interative Verbal Protocol, observing the process of apprehending the methodology, this research reveals difficulties by the apprentice and his development towards more satisfactory grades of carring out the indexing task. It was chosen three students from the second class of Librarianship that had not attended the discipline "Indexing and Abstracting" and were intested in taking part in the applying of the Verbal Protocol combined with the indexing task. The analysis of the Verbal Protocol's transcriptions shows that the apprentices had difficulties in identifying the concepts of this Model: to choose terms to represent the concepts, to understand the terminology of the medical science and to to set up the terms' form (singular or phrases). Such difficulty is relating to the using of the Reading Model adapted from the original where there was inversion of the concepts action and object. A investigação do contexto profissional de tratamento de conteúdo em bibliotecas universitárias é necessária para coleta de dados e observação dos processos dos profissionais catalogadores de assunto com vistas à futura elaboração de metodologia para catalogação de assunto de documentos. Propõe-se a análise dos processos de análise de assunto na catalogação de documentos e a visão dos participantes sobre os significados dos resultados obtidos em sua prática cotidiana a partir de pesquisa etnográfica e uso da técnica de Protocolo Verbal Individual e entrevistas em contexto de diferentes Bibliotecas Universitárias no domínio de Ciência da Computação. The research of professional context of content treatment in university libraries is required for data collection and observation of the processes of professional subject catalogers with a view to further development of methodology for the subject cataloging of documents. It proposes the analysis of the procedures of subject analysis for examining on documents cataloging and the views of participants about the meanings of the results obtained in their daily practice from ethnographic research and use of the technique of Individual Verbal Protocol and interviews in the context of various university libraries in the field of Computer Science. Sob essa vertente, o foco dos estudos de abordagem sóciocognitiva amplia a perspectiva individual para contextos sócioculturais. Por conseguinte, entende-se que o profissional da informação enraizado no processo de tratamento temático da informação deva ser analisado dentro de seu contexto sóciocultural que abrange a formação e atuação profissional, ou seja, o saber e o fazer profissional condicionados ao contexto institucional. Assim, as ações e pensamentos que orientam objetiva e/ou subjetivamente a atuação profissional no tratamento temático da informação devem ser investigados para que os profissionais atuem de modo condizente e com um nível maior de segurança no contexto de bibliotecas universitárias, visando diminuir/eliminar incoerências ou omissões e dar maior consistência para a criação de produtos informacionais. Under this component, the focus of studies of social-cognitive approach broadens the perspective to individual sociocultural contexts. Therefore, it is understood that the information profession rooted in the process of thematic treatment of information must be analyzed within its sociocultural context which includes training and professional performance, or professional knowledge and practice conditioned by institutional context. Thus, the actions and thoughts that guide objective and / or professional performance subjectively in thematic treatment information should be investigated for professionals to act in a manner consistent with a greater level of security in the context of university libraries in order to reduce / eliminate inconsistencies or omissions and provide greater consistency for the creation of information products. When the indexing language does not correspond to the necessities of representation of the contents of the documents, carried out by the indexers and the requests of bibliographical searches through the users' subject, it affects the performance of those processes, compromising the accomplishment of searches and services. The proposal is to carry through an evaluation study of the alphabetic indexing language use of the online collective catalogs, with a main focus on the technologies of representation and information retrieval, in the perspective of the university libraries and in the socio-cognitive context of indexers and users.
