Shape-Time Photography

Freeman, William T., Zhang, Hao 10 January 2002 (has links)
We introduce a new method to describe, in a single image, changes in shape over time. We acquire both range and image information with a stationary stereo camera. From the pictures taken, we display a composite image consisting of the image data from the surface closest to the camera at every pixel. This reveals the 3-d relationships over time by easy-to-interpret occlusion relationships in the composite image. We call the composite a shape-time photograph. Small errors in depth measurements cause artifacts in the shape-time images. We correct most of these using a Markov network to estimate the most probable front surface, taking into account the depth measurements, their uncertainties, and layer continuity assumptions.

Matematiklektioner på video - Hur studenter använder hjälp på Internet

Sjödin, Christian January 2007 (has links)

Development of a Haptic Video Chat System

Zhang, Longyu 27 September 2012 (has links)
Since conventional audio-video teleconferencing systems have reached their limits, the needs of integrating new sensations to improve users' telecommunication experience are growing. Haptics, the sense of touch, which includes handshake, comforting hug, encouraging pat, and other physical contacts, is of great importance for interpersonal communication, since it allows people to express and receive intimate affection, intention or emotion efficiently. Motivated by a few haptic telecommunication softwares, this thesis presents an innovative webcam-based touchscreen to replace the haptic device, which is used in HugMe system as human hand, to further increase people's degree of immersion with the audio-video-haptic teleconferencing system at a more reasonable price. With our webcam-based touchscreen, the user could directly use his/her bare hand to touch the image of the person who he/she is chatting with, instead of controlling a haptic device as the medium to realize indirect touch. This thesis also gives details of the touchscreen method and our proposed mathematical models for touch position calculation. Experimental results show that our system is accurate and robust, while maintaining high compatibility with conventional audio-video teleconferencing systems for combination. With our haptic jacket, the passive user can feel the touch of the active user at the right position. Also, additional applications with the touchscreen, such as writing and drawing, are developed and tested. Finally, we draw the conclusions and talk about future work.

Mixed streaming of video over wireless networks

Daka, Justice 13 July 2007
In recent years, transmission of video over the Internet has become an important application. As wireless networks are becoming increasingly popular, it is expected that video will be an important application over wireless networks as well. Unlike wired networks, wireless networks have high data loss rates. Streaming video in the presence of high data loss can be a challenge because it results in errors in the video.<p>Video applications produce large amounts of data that need to be compressed for efficient storage and transmission. Video encoders compress data into dependent frames and independent frames. During transmission, the compressed video may lose some data. Depending on where the packet loss occurs in the video, the error can propagate for a long time. If the error occurs on a reference frame at the beginning of the video, all the frames that depend on the reference frame will not be decoded successfully. <p>This thesis presents the concept of mixed streaming, which reduces the impact of video propagation errors in error prone networks. Mixed streaming delivers a video file using two levels of reliability; reliable and unreliable. This allows sensitive parts of the video to be delivered reliably while less sensitive areas of the video are transmitted unreliably. Experiments are conducted that study the behavior of mixed streaming over error prone wireless networks. Results show that mixed streaming makes it possible to reduce the impact of errors by making sure that errors on reference frames are corrected. Correcting errors on reference frames limits the time for which errors can propagate, thereby improving the video quality. Results also show that the delay cost associated with the mixed streaming approach is reasonable for fairly high packet loss rates.

LOCATE/DISLOCATE: An Exhibition of Haiku Videos

Carney, J. Colin January 2009 (has links)
My work is concerned with perception and presentness. Using digital video I am employing a notion of “perceptualism” put forward by artist Jack Chambers. Acknowledging HD television and high speed internet, this work challenges the pace and expectations of a contemporary screen event. It ranges in focus from the domestic to the rural, the intimate and sublime. These works, structured in various conceptual configurations of the 5 - 7 - 5 haiku poem, form an immersive gallery installation. Seventeen haiku videos in this series stretch a primary perceptual impact of various circumstances using superimpositions and quick edits in order to reconsider an immediate present and evoke a sense of wonder.
