This work is focused on the education of volunteers in Pionýr, which is organized within this association. The aim is to find out what the motivation of volunteers to take part in the education courses and what is the benefit of the courses for their work with children as well as for their personal development. In case someone does not participate in the course, there are reasons for not taking part in the course. The data are obtained through questionnaires that were distributed among volunteers registered within the Pionýr. Based on the data obtained, it is possible to improve the quality of education courses, focus on specific topics and make courses more attractive.

Since the 1960s the memory of the Finnish SS-volunteers has been seen as a special group which did not participate in the atrocities while serving in Waffen-SS. A new study about the Finnish SS-volunteers was published at the end of 2018 sparking an active discussion about the role of Finns in the Holocaust and atrocities in World War II. The debate about the painful past further invigorated when the National Archives of Finland carried out an archival survey concluding that volunteers most likely participated in atrocities against Jews, civilians and prisoners of war. This master thesis investigates the discussion that took place in the newspapers, tabloids and journals, and based on the arguments used, it analyses how the memory of Finnish SS-volunteers is dealt with in Finnish society. The discussion confirms that there are uncomfortable parts in Finland's past which are yet to be dealt with and the old interpretations of Finland having separate war and being a victim still has a meaningful place in the historical consciousness. There is also a need to further investigate the empty pages of Finnish history, the painful ones too.

The present study represents an attempt "to seek out one possible subgroup of the black elderly population--the volunteer. Black elderly volunteers are a puzzled about but largely unknown group. Very little systematic research has been done on this subject. Recently there has been an increased interest in volunteering among the elderly population as a whole, as social welfare planners seek new ways for the aged to find fulfillment and enjoyment. It is felt that volunteering can offer prestige, feelings of usefullness and other gratifications that may be lacking in the aged person's life.

Master of Science / Department of Journalism and Mass Communications / Todd F. Simon / In the United States, the number of college-age students (19-24) who volunteer is rising rapidly. However, most of the research in regard to sustaining volunteers with nonprofits is targeted to the whole population, especially older adults. This research employed the first sample survey of college volunteers for the study of a public relations theory. The findings showed that theories developed for older adults may also apply to young adults and could provide insights about youth relationships. While using organization-public relationship model as the theoretical background, the results suggest that Access, Networking, and Assurance are important public relations strategies for nonprofits maintaining college volunteers. Nonprofits should try to cultivate a sense of commitment with college volunteers, which could greatly increase their volunteer intentions in the future. In addition, as suggested by the previous research, this study collected the data in regard to college volunteers' parents' social-economic status, and has found that parental involvement with nonprofits has a great impact on their children's volunteer behaviors in the future.

This bachelor thesis is related to the phenomenon of student volunteering, in Sweden, the field of study and its own context. Our argumentation is based on the concept of “motivation” and focused on the students of universities in Sweden. In order to lead this research, we created a survey and sent it to the 14 Erasmus Student Networks (ESN) of Sweden in order to use their database and spread the survey. We wanted to answer our research question: What are the motivations behind student volunteering in a Swedish context? We obtained 123 answers related to items of interest for our study: the motivations to start volunteering, the abilities students improved, how often student volunteer and why they don’t volunteer, for example. Moreover, we proposed a typology of volunteers depending on their frequency of volunteering. Note that most of the answers came from the city of Växjö, which consist of one of the biggest limitations of the results. We answered 6 hypothesis but only 4 of them found a suitable answer. Our findings are as following: younger surveyees tend to volunteer more frequently than older ones. Regarding their origins (Swedish or international student), it is not confirmed that volunteers want to improve different abilities and have different motives to volunteer. Furthermore, it is confirmed that students volunteer following intrinsic motivations more than extrinsic ones. Finally, we pointed out that Swedish students who are not studying at their home town volunteer for organizations in order to meet new people and to make new friends.

This thesis has explored participation by adult volunteer workers of the Wapehani Girl Scout Council in central Indiana. This study involved 50 adults who were active members of the council at the time of the study and 50 adults who had been members of the council and were no longer active at the time of the study.A demographic questionnaire and a personality inventory were administered to each of the 100 participants in the study. The questionnaire involved the following information about each volunteer: age, sex, education, marital status, family income per year, size of community lived in, number of years in Scouting, membership in other organizations, number of children, number of daughters, number of daughters in Scouting, age at which daughters joined Scouts, and reasons for remaining or leaving Scouting. The personality inventory was the Edwards Personal Preference Schedule, and it involved 15 variables: achievement, deference, order, exhibition, autonomy, affiliation, intraception, succorance, dominance, abasement, nurturance, change, endurance, heterosexuality, and aggression.

This thesis deals with volunteering in the Czech Republic, focusing on the specifics of voluntary work in medical facilities. The theoretical part provides excursus into the back stage of voluntary work. The first chapter is designed to focus on prosocial behaviour, in particular on the phenomenon of altruism. Additional chapters focus on the topic of volunteering as a whole, including a short history of volunteering, typology of volunteering, typology of volunteers and areas where volunteers currently operate. The basic theme of this part, however, is the volunteer; the possibilities of her/his volunteer activities, motivation, psychological contributions and whole passage through the program from the applicant to the experienced individual. Empirical part deals with two points of view on volunteering. The first is the aspect of the individual - and the possibility of prediction of her/his staying in the program by filling the entry questionnaire, which has been developed in this work. The second viewpoint targets on volunteering in the health services as a system of work and on organizing the voluntary activities. The research is based on the method of evaluation of the volunteering program. Key words: volunteering, altruism, evaluation, choice of volunteers.
