Desarrollo de un proceso de implementación de cursos en línea masivos y abiertos accesibles

El presente trabajo de investigación propone y desarrolla un proceso para la implementación de cursos en MOOC accesibles. Los principales aportes de son: (i) la caracterización del problema de la accesibilidad de los MOOC; (ii) la recopilación del estado de la cuestión mediante una revisión sistemática de la literatura; (iii) la validación del nivel de accesibilidad de plataformas y contenidos MOOC; (iv) la identificación de requisitos de accesibilidad para plataformas y contenidos MOOC; (v) el diseño de una arquitectura para plataformas MOOC accesibles; (vi) la definición de un ciclo de vida para la gestión de MOOC accesibles.

Web Accessibility in E-learning : Identifying and Solving Accessibility Issues for WCAG 2.0 Conformance in an E-learning Application

With the rise of e-learning and recent legislations of the European Union enforcing conformance to Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.0 for web applications of public sector bodies, the issue of identifying and solving web accessibility issues in e-learning applications is more relevant than ever. This thesis is based on a case study of a publisher of course literature whose intention is to improve the accessibility of their e-learning applications. The thesis contains a theoretical foundation on disabilities, e-learning and web accessibility including assistive technologies, the web accessibility guidelines WCAG 2.0 and the web accessibility evaluation method WCAG-EM. This theory is used for developing solutions to accessibility issues found in the e-learning applications and comparing accessibility with e-learning theory. The results are presented as concrete examples to be useful for developers of e-learning applications. It was found that there exist a few instances where accessibility and e-learning contradict each other, but the solutions to accessibility problems are most often not affected by the learning premise of the applications.

[pt] Esta pesquisa tem como objetivo avaliar a Web Content Accessibility Guidelines Evaluation Methodology (WCAG-EM 1.0), metodologia proposta pelo W3C para avaliação de acessibilidade de sítios eletrônicos pela verificação de conformidade com o Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0. Pesquisas anteriores demonstraram que diferentes perfis de avaliador podem gerar resultados diversos em avaliações de acessibilidade. Foram realizadas pesquisas exploratórias que reforçaram a necessidade de que avaliadores de acessibilidade possuam um perfil mínimo de expertise. Foi publicado um questionário on-line para recrutar pessoas que já tivessem realizado avaliações de acessibilidade, com perguntas sobre formação, profissão, técnicas e ferramentas de avaliação, deficiências, tecnologias assistivas e opinião sobre diferentes definições de acessibilidade. Dos 83 respondentes, 62 afirmaram já ter realizado avaliações de acessibilidade, e 25 preencheram o perfil mínimo para serem qualificados para a etapa de avaliação de acessibilidade da página inicial do Portal da Saúde. A avaliação foi feita por nove dos avaliadores selecionados por meio de questionário eletrônico baseado nos requisitos e textos de apoio das etapas da WCAG-EM 1.0. Foi também realizada uma avaliação cooperativa por meio do software Skype com usuários cegos, a fim de coletar problemas da interação destes usuários com o Portal da Saúde. Foi feita uma comparação entre os problemas encontrados por diferentes avaliadores, bem como um quadro comparativo com os problemas enfrentados pelos usuários cegos com os relatados pelos avaliadores. Os resultados mostraram que etapas da WCAG-EM 1.0 geraram interpretações muito diferentes pelos avaliadores e favoreceram incongruências verificadas entre as respostas dos avaliadores. Houve ainda pouca relação entre os problemas encontrados pelos avaliadores e os observados na avaliação com usuários cegos. Os resultados permitiram a geração de recomendações de melhoria para futuros aperfeiçoamentos da WCAG-EM 1.0. / [en] This research aims to evaluate the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines Evaluation Methodology (WCAG 1.0-EM), as proposed by the W3C to evaluate accessibility of electronic sites for verifying compliance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0. Previous research has shown that different evaluator profiles can generate different results in accessibility assessments. Exploratory surveys were conducted which reinforced the need for accessibility evaluators have a minimum of expertise profile. An online questionnaire was used to recruit people who had already done accessibility evaluations, with questions about education, profession, techniques and evaluation tools, disabilities, assistive technologies and review of different definitions of accessibility. From 83 respondents, 62 claim to have already performed evaluation of accessibility, and 25 met the minimum defined profile to be qualified for accessibility evaluation phase of the Brazilian Health Portal home page (Portal da Saúde). The evaluation was made by nine of the selected evaluators through electronic questionnaire based on the requirements and support texts of WCAG-EM 1.0 steps. A cooperative evaluation through Skype software with blind users was also conducted in order to collect problems of interaction of these users with the Brazilian Health Portal. A comparison was made between the problems encountered by different evaluators and a comparison of the problems faced by blind users with those reported by the evaluators. The results showed that steps of WCAG-EM 1.0 generate very different interpretations by the evaluators and favored inconsistencies observed between the answers. There was also little relationship between the problems encountered by the evaluators and those observed in the evaluation with blind users. The results allowed the generation of improvement recommendations for further development of WCAG-EM 1.0.
