Mediating a Pauline poetics : the imperial, sacred georgics of John Dyer and William Cowper / Imperial, sacred georgics of John Dyer and William Cowper

Wehrle, Cole Thomas 14 August 2012 (has links)
This report offers an analysis of the ways in which two eighteenth century georgic poems, John Dyer’s The Fleece and William Cowper’s The Task, mediate evangelical and imperial practices. Through an inquiry into the recent critical intersection between Kevis Goodman’s media focused research into the georgic and Clifford Siskin and William Warner’s similarly inflected inquiry into the Enlightenment, this report suggests that the didactic, agricultural musings of Dyer and Cowper betray a deep engagement the consequences of imperialism and the execution of Britain’s dawning evangelical charge. / text

Batman, Time Warner, and franchise filmmaking in the conglomerate era

Owczarski, Kimberly Ann, 1975- 25 September 2012 (has links)
Spanning the nearly two decades since the Time Warner merger and the arrival of Batman in theaters, this study explains how media conglomeration affects the development of key properties by providing an extensive understanding of a film franchise. Beginning with Batman in 1989 and ending with Batman Begins in 2005, I argue that examining the Batman film franchise is one way to understand contemporary Hollywood. Through an integration of archival research, critical discourse analysis, and textual analysis, this study presents a comprehensive view of the Batman films by focusing on the development of this groundbreaking franchise, its impact on Time Warner, and what it tells us about the state of the contemporary film industry as a whole. Key issues of authorship, branding, and genre are integral aspects of the production of franchise films, and are essential themes that I discuss in this study. The story of the Batman franchise is not only about a multi-mediated property, but also a conglomerate’s attempt to define itself within the increasingly competitive entertainment industry. By following the developments with the Batman franchise, Time Warner, and the film industry since 1989, this dissertation examines the conglomerate era and the place of the franchise film within it. Thus, I argue that the Batman franchise’s arc provides the framework for understanding the changes which have occurred in the industry, particularly in regard to media conglomeration. / text

Změny texturních vlastností hovězího masa v průběhu zrání

Hermanová, Nikola January 2018 (has links)
This diploma thesis is focused on textural properties of beef meat during aging. Round and sirloin from three heifers of Czech Fleckvieh breed were used for the experiment. Samples were analyzed by Warner-Bratzler test, compression test and penetration test in 4th, 6th, 7th and 8th week of aging. Results of Warner-Bratzler test ranged from 54,72 – 59,96 N and there was not found statistically significant difference. Results from compression test TPA1 were in range 187,75 – 277,05 N and TPA2 results were in range 153,74 – 225,55 N and there was found statistically highly significant difference in most cases. Penetration test results of beef round were in range 5,58 – 6,18 N and there was not found statistically significant difference. Penetration test results of beef sirloin were in range 6,39 – 9,49 N and the difference was not statistically significant in most cases.

The Psychology of Personal Constructs as a Response to the Ethical

Thayne, Jeffrey Lamar 06 July 2012 (has links) (PDF)
Although George Kelly's psychology of personal constructs was not originally designed to address and account for experiences of self-betrayal, as described by Warner (1986, 2001), Olson (2004, 2007), Olson and Israelson (2007), Williams (2005), and others (Arbinger, 2000), his theory (with minor modifications) may help illuminate the psychology behind the sudden gestaltic shifts and moral transformations experienced by individuals in Warner's (1986, 2001) stories, without undoing any of Warner's existing analysis of self betrayal. The end vision of the thesis is a structured theory of personality, so to speak, that borrows Kelly's insights and extends them to the phenomenon of self-betrayal. This approach allows us to (1) help others make their self-betraying constructs explicit, (2) measure and document them when we do, (3) communicate those constructs to others, (4) and do all of these things while conceptualizing human beings as moral agents responding to their moral sense, in addition to scientists seeking to predict and control their environment.
