Beach Museum Web Application

Master of Science / Department of Computer Science / Daniel Andresen / This project involves in developing a responsive web application for Beach Museum at Manhattan, Kansas. Application is built on development boxes using Amazon web services. Project is built on MVC architecture that helps user to search images, create their own collection from the images and include an admin module. Migrating the current existing SQL database to couchDB for better performance of the available data. Integrated Apache Lucene to support text search in the couch database writing different indexes to retrieve the results. Implementing core functionalities like basic search, advanced search, filter objects with respective to artist, decade, object type and relevance using different indexes and Mango queries in the couchDB. Search Results are further chunked and displayed to the user. Web storage API’s were used to provide the functionality for a user to create their own collection (set of Images). Built an Admin module to perform CRUD operations the database. Admin module involves in creating exhibitions, adding/editing works and artists in the couch DB.

Allt eftersom webben utvecklas kommer det nya tekniker och verktyg att lära sig för webbutvecklare. WebStorage är en av dessa. Som en del av HTML5 har den många användbara funktioner som öppnar upp nyamöjligheter för utvecklare och för vad webben kan användas till. Som plattform har en hemsida som gåttunder projektnamnet Partify använts och här har Web Storage testas att användas för att undersöka hurman bäst använder tekniken. Rapporten innehåller ingående fakta om hur Web Storage är uppbyggt ochhur man använder det. Efter jämförelse med dagens vanliga teknik, cookies, finns tydliga resultat på hur väl Web Storage hävdarsig när det gäller säkerhet, prestanda, användarvänlighet och funktionalitet. I slutsatsen finns det tips påhur man bör använda Web Storage för att få bäst resultat samt funderingar om vad som kommer hända iframtiden. Man bör läsa denna rapport om man vill lära sig om en ny och spännande del av html5 och harfunderingar över om det är värt att börja använda den istället för cookies. / The web continues to develop and as it do new techniques and tools keep coming. This master's thesis describe design and implementation of mobile and web application for supporting group work. Every team member send his work report in specific time period for compare themself with each other. In first part is described analysis and motivation for this application. Next chapters inform about similiar applications, Android platform and used technologies. In design chapter are described screens of mobile application, history of their design and web application design. In the last chapter is described implementation and testing.
