Graph Decompositions and Monadic Second Order Logic

Adler, Jonathan D 27 April 2009 (has links)
A tree decomposition is a tool which allows for analysis of the underlying tree structure of graphs which are not trees. Given a class of graphs with bounded tree width, many NP-complete problems can be computed in linear time for graphs in the class. Clique width of a graph G is a measure of the number of labels required to construct G using several particular graph operations. For any integer k, both the class of graphs with tree width at most k and the class of graphs with clique width at most k have a decidable monadic second order theory. In this paper we explore some recent results in applying these graph measures and their relation to monadic second order logic.

TAM Design for Parallel Testing under Bus Bandwidth Limit

Tseng, Kuei-Hsi January 2010 (has links)
The complexity of electronic system is increasing rapidly and many of the electronic systems   are   embedded   systems   implemented   as   system-on-chip   (SoC).   This increasing  complexity  of  SoC  leads  to  longer  test  application  time  (TAT).  One approach  to  reduce  the  TAT  is  to  perform  tests  to  several  cores  in  parallel,  which requests transporting test data in parallel instead of sequentially. In IEEE Std. 1500, it supports parallel test mode by incorporating a user-defined, parallel   test   access   mechanism   (TAM)   to   speed   up   the   testing   process.   The user-defined  TAM  means  the  detail  of  TAM  design  is  excluded  from  standard  and decided by system integrator. Therefore, we propose a customized TAM structure and two approaches to guarantee full-spatial-parallelism under a bus width limit, and aim to  minimize  the  total  number  of  wire  connections.  In  order  to  know  how  close  to optimal  solution  our  solutions  are,  we  implement  a  Simulated  Annealing  (SA) algorithm to do the comparison. The  experimental  results  of  the  two  proposed  approaches  based  on  benchmark ISCAS’89  and  ITC’02  show  the  parallelism  can  be  guaranteed  by  our  approaches while using only a few wire connections per pin, and the execution times of them are shorter compared with the SA algorithm.

Sorption of gases and liquids by polymers of intrinsic microporosity (PIMs)

Chaukura, Nhamo January 2011 (has links)
This study presents the synthesis of polymers of intrinsic microporosity and the investigation of their microporosity using gas sorption and adsorption of liquids and vapours. Microporous polymeric materials PIM-1, TAPIM-1, PIM-2 and PIM-7 were synthesised using step-growth polymerisation. The microporosity of these materials was studied using gas sorption and adsorption of molecules in the liquid phase. A procedure to validate gas sorption methods was undertaken before being used to characterise microporous materials. The sorption methodology was validated using standard reference materials (SRMs) and collaborative testing, and the PSD evaluation was validated using a well defined crystalline material. Different approaches to obtaining pore size distribution (PSD) data were dealt with. Gas sorption methods that use CO2 at 273 K and at 303 K, N2 at 77 K, H2 at77 K, and Xe (298 K) to determine PSD were compared. The Horvath-Kawazoe(HK) model was presented as the preferred model and the N2, CO2 and H2 sorption data were treated under this approach. CO2 PSD data at 273 K and at303 K was compared against N2 PSD data and a novel complementary relationship established. PIM-1 samples in film form and powder form were used to investigate the effect of sample form on the sorption properties of the material. PIM-1, PIM-2, TAPIM-1, ethano-anthracene PIM-1 copolymers, and triptycene based PIMs were used to investigate the influence of polymer structure on gas sorption properties. The free volume properties of a PIM-1 ethano-anthracene copolymer (PIM-CO1-40), was compared against PIM-1. A number of independent techniques, namely N2 sorption, Xe sorption, Positron annihilation lifetime spectroscopy (PALS), and 129Xe NMR were used to probe the free volume. The time dependence of free volume and its bearing on diffusivity of PIM-1 membranes was investigated. Water, chloroform and simple alcohols were used to investigate adsorption in the liquid and vapour phases. Interaction with PIM-1 the aromatic ether linkage and the nitrile group produced frequency shifts in ATR-FT-IR spectra. These frequency shifts were used to compare relative strengths of the hydrogen bonds.

Silwer Wright, Lenny, von Brömsen, Gustav January 2019 (has links)
Sponsoring within sports is a wide subject with a lot of research done about it. However almost all of the research has been about the companies view on why they sponsor a club or from an elite perspective. Therefore, we have chosen to focus on the width-oriented football clubs that may not have the same resources or opportunities to deal with sponsoring as the big elite clubs have. The aim of this study is to through interviews with width-oriented football clubs in Skåne increase the understanding about how they view and work with sponsoring. The results of the study show that the money helps the everyday work and contributes evolving the club in all departments. Important to the clubs is that the sponsors share the same values and that the local network and relations have a big meaning for the clubs. The overall positive view on sponsoring concludes a certain awareness around the negative aspects with the subject.

Evaluation of the variable rate capabilities of a sprayer equipped with pulse width modulation nozzle control and direct chemical injection systems

Walker, William 10 December 2021 (has links) (PDF)
Variable-rate technologies coupled with broadcast spray systems serve to reduce chemical inputs, misapplication of chemicals, and environmental pollution, thus improving profitability and sustainability. Sprayer variable rate control involves using pulse width modulation (PWM) solenoids and/or direct chemical injection to adjust the application rate. The objectives of this research were to: outfit a conventional broadcast sprayer with PWM and direct inject technologies; evaluate the accuracy of the PWM system to control application rate for strait line and turn segments; and characterize the direct injection system’s transport delay time. For the PWM evaluation, the mean flow rate and coefficient of variation of individual nozzles indicated consistent performance. For the direct injection evaluation, the manufacturer recommended plumbing scheme and injection point location resulted in unsatisfactory delay times, ranging from 105 to 150s for the 8 km h-1 (5 mph) speed and 60 to 90s for the 16 km h-1 (10 mph) speed.
