Λευτεράτος, Παναγιώτης 25 September 2007 (has links)
In our modern society the continuous need for information and communication has led to the development of even smaller, but at the same time and more powerful, mobile devices. State of the art technology introduces pocket computers (Pocket PC) with size similar to a cell-phone, including powerful processing circuits, multiple capabilities of networking and an operating system (Windows CE/Mobile) capable for developing a broad range of applications. Pocket PCs can be used as sophisticated cell-phones, multimedia reproduction devices (picture, sound and video), personal organizers, city navigators and more. In this master thesis, we will describe in detail this operating system, the technical characteristics of Pocket PCs and their capabilities. We will also present the software development kits (SDKs) available for these devices. Another achievement of technology which has invaded recently in our lives is the Global Positioning System (GPS). GPS uses satellites orbiting the earth, to find our current location on Earth and for precise time calculation. At start it had only military use, but nowadays it is used extensively by citizens for civilian purposes. The applications of GPS vary from navigating through a city to oceanography. Modern technology is able to manufacture small GPS receivers with the capability to connect to a number of devices, including Pocket PCs. With the appropriate program running on the Pocket PC, we have the unique possibility to process territorial data on the go. In our thesis we will describe the GPS system and the protocol responsible for exporting data from a GPS receiver.

Implementace OpenVPN na platformě Windows CE / Porting OpenVPN to Windows CE Platform

Ešner, Oldřich January 2008 (has links)
The motivation for inception of this MSc. thesis which follows on from a term project of the same name was the transfer of the application for building private virtual OpenVPN networks from Windows XP operating system to Windows CE Embedded 6.0 platform. The project deals with virtual private networks in general and looks more closely at its implementation - OpenVPN. It also introduces the basic features of the Windows CE operating system. The project goes on to describe device drivers in NT-based Windows operating systems, the Windows Driver Model used, the NDIS network interface model and also the model of Windows CE drivers - the Stream Interface Model. The project continues with a~description of communication in OpenVPN application and primarily the role of TUN/TAP virtual network interfaces. This is followed by a proposal for transfer of TUN/TAP adapter drivers together with a description of limitations and necessary modifications between both platforms. As a result a TAP network device driver is implemented whose function is verified by test application that emulates the behaviour of a TUN adapter. The project concludes with an evaluation of the achieved results, the possibilities for further work on this theme and with the overall contribution of this project.

Voice over IP in a resource constrained environment

Nesh-Nash, Ali January 2006 (has links)
Today, the telecommunication world is focused on mobility. This is popular because since the 1990s most people have integrated their mobile phones into their life. A new factor is the rise of the voice over IP(VoIP) technology, with VoIP over Wireless LANs (WLANs) as the clear next growth area for mobile communications. The purpose of this thesis was to understand how to save power based upon changing when some operations are performed in a VoIP client. In order to do this, we decided to port minisip to an HP iPAQ 5500 Personal Digital Assistant (PDA), in order to explore some of the issues of running such a client on a PDA - due to its constraints with regard to storage, processing power, and battery power. Minisip is a SIP open source user agent running on Linux and Windows. This thesis builds upon earlier theses which showed that minisip can offer a secure communications platform with the latest functions which are desired in a mobile personal VoIP system. However, most of these earlier theses utilized desktop, laptop, or server based system, i.e., with few resources constrains. The focus of this thesis was to examine the case of a highly constrained user platform such as an iPAQ.

An examination of Linux and Windows CE embedded operating systems

Trivedi, Anish Chandrakant 04 January 2011 (has links)
The software that operates mobile and embedded devices, the embedded operating system, has evolved to adapt from the traditional desktop environment, where processing horsepower and energy supply are abundant, to the challenging resource-starved embedded environment. The embedded environment presents the software with some difficult constraints when compared to the typical desktop environment: slower hardware, smaller memory size, and a limited battery life. Different embedded OSs tackle these constraints in different ways. We survey two of the more popular embedded OSs: Linux and Windows CE. To reveal their strengths and weaknesses, we examine and compare each of the OS’s process management and scheduler, interrupt handling, memory management, synchronization mechanisms and interprocess communication, and power management. / text
