Design of 3D Object with Implicit function on Pocket PC

Chiang, Chien-hsien 13 October 2004 (has links)
In this thesis, we develops a Pocket PC-based 3D object design system using implicit functions, which allows users to design and view 3D objects easily at anytime and anywhere. With the growing wireless techniques, Pocket PC can easily connect to the Internet via WLAN, GPRS, WCDMA, etc. The problems of insufficient computing power caused by the limited hardware on Pocket PCs can be solved by the client-server model, which performs complex computation on the workstation, and transmit polygon mesh data to the Pocket PC. Via the proposed system, one can design and visualize his any innovative ideas instantly wherever he is.

A mobile SIP client : From the user interface design to evaluation of synchronised playout from multiple SIP user agents

Karapantelakis, Athanasios January 2007 (has links)
The thesis examines the ability to have synchronized playout of audio from multiple devices. The paths between the source of this audio and the output devices may be different. Our objective is to provide a generic low-cost solution, without the use of special hardware. The context of this work is internet telephony, but the work is also applicable to other settings. In internet telephony this synchronization not only contributes to the natural flow of conversation, but also maintains the spatial effect of the incoming audio streams, as well as the location awareness of the peers. We envisioned users of handheld devices might collectively utilize their personal devices to enable a shared spatial audio environment. In the simplest case two users each with monophonic terminals could provide stereo. Hence, the second part of this study addresses the practical issue of how such synchronization could be utilized in a internet telephony client to provide such multidevice playout. We utilized minisip, as an open-source Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) client supporting security, as the basic client. To realize the vision, we ported minisip to a Pocket PC environment. In the second part of this thesis we examine the process of porting preexisting code to such a new architecture, as well as how to map an existing human-computer interface to such a handheld device. The thesis shows that synchronization is possible and explores some of the implementation’s limitations. A clear result is the need to combine the results of several theses into the common trunk code - so as to combine the earlier RTCP work with this synchronization work and to provide the a human-computer interface which is suitable for many different handheld devices, ranging from Pocket PCs to SmartPhones.

A TECNOLOGIA MÓVEL, INTEGRADA A RECEPTORES GPS BLUETOOTH, APLICADA À GESTÃO TRIBUTÁRIA URBANA: CADASTRO DO IPTU E ISSQN / THE MOBILE TECHNOLOGY INTEGRATED BLUETOOTH GPS RECEIVER, APPLIED TO THE MANAGEMENT OF URBAN TAX: REGISTER OF IPTU AND ISSQN

Andreis, Salete 17 January 2008 (has links)
The process of tax decentralization and the growing participation of municipal governments in the set of tax resources of Brazil, amplify its expansion in the management of public services dedicated to the population, creating conflicts in the structure of this level of government. The expansion and the improvement of the public services dedicated to the population require a larger structure and that is the reason that it requires more expenditure to municipalities. Although the municipalities public revenue receives an increase of financial resources, it has been demonstrated insufficient in order to afford these expansions. Between the tributes that the municipalities adopt, there are the IPTU and also ISSQN. These taxes could represent a stimulus on the tributes, making it sufficient to support the public expenditure. The taxes belong to the federal constitution, it is governed by a complementary municipality s law and it has as first generator of tributes, the inclusion in owns register of all buildings, residential and commercial. The presented work demonstrates the possibilities of using mobile computing in the simplification of the collection and data processing, detailing two systems in the area of urban management that use technology GPS with connection wireless Bluetooth and also it allows the update and the insertion of new information in the data base.

Moroney, Gerard January 2007 (has links)

Λευτεράτος, Παναγιώτης 25 September 2007 (has links)
In our modern society the continuous need for information and communication has led to the development of even smaller, but at the same time and more powerful, mobile devices. State of the art technology introduces pocket computers (Pocket PC) with size similar to a cell-phone, including powerful processing circuits, multiple capabilities of networking and an operating system (Windows CE/Mobile) capable for developing a broad range of applications. Pocket PCs can be used as sophisticated cell-phones, multimedia reproduction devices (picture, sound and video), personal organizers, city navigators and more. In this master thesis, we will describe in detail this operating system, the technical characteristics of Pocket PCs and their capabilities. We will also present the software development kits (SDKs) available for these devices. Another achievement of technology which has invaded recently in our lives is the Global Positioning System (GPS). GPS uses satellites orbiting the earth, to find our current location on Earth and for precise time calculation. At start it had only military use, but nowadays it is used extensively by citizens for civilian purposes. The applications of GPS vary from navigating through a city to oceanography. Modern technology is able to manufacture small GPS receivers with the capability to connect to a number of devices, including Pocket PCs. With the appropriate program running on the Pocket PC, we have the unique possibility to process territorial data on the go. In our thesis we will describe the GPS system and the protocol responsible for exporting data from a GPS receiver.

Delninukų energijos suvartojimo apdorojant išretintas matricas saugomas eilutėmis modeliavimas / Pocket PC energy consumption using sparse matrix storage by rows modeling

Žalkauskas, Nerijus 28 January 2008 (has links)
Low power consumption is a major constraint for battery-powered system like computer notebook or pocket PC, mobile phone. In the past, specialists usually designed both specific optimized equipments and codes to relief this concern. Doing like this could work for quite a long time, however, in this era, there is another significant restraint, the time to market. To be able to serve along the power constraint while can launch products in shorter production period, objectoriented programming (OOP) has stepped in to this field. In work we create program, whose multiply sparse matrix. Multiplication are two types: one we use standart matrix multiplication, other use compresed matrix storage by rows multiplication. When execute program, we can track, how battery power are consumpt. When we use compresed matrix storage by rows multiplication, we eliminate zero elements and multiplication execute faster, then standart matrix multiplication. So baterry power comsumption are lower. If your system are very important battery life time, then you must use optimized programm code. Optimized programm code use less battery power, then not optimized. Then your system can work much longer.

An Implementation On Use Of Handheld Technologies In Medical Research Areas: Health Habits And History Questionnaire On A Pocket Pc

Kiymac, Esin H. 01 January 2005 (has links) (PDF)
In most of the studies, face to face interviews are required with individuals for data collection and hence to apply questionnaires. There are two methods for applying the questionnaire / the paper-based and the electronic method. The paper-based method takes time and is of a high cost to the researchers. Because of writing/reading based errors, this method may cause inaccuracy in collected data. On the contrary, conducting questionnaires in electronic environment procures savings in cost and time, improves data accuracy, gives faster results, and increases efficiency. However, in this method some problems may arise in surveys conducted in urban areas, i.e. problems related to communication and network infrastructure. Nevertheless, advances in Information Technologies provide mobile data collection and computing, and hence they have become a significant place in every part of our life. Many researchers have begun to prefer using these developing technologies in their studies since using mobile devices in conducting health surveys is more useful and economical than the paper-based questionnaires. In this thesis, we have developed a mobile device-based questionnaire, which is an adaptation of the one used by the National Cancer Institute of USA in paper-based form. In other words, in this work the &ldquo / Health Habits and History Questionnaire&rdquo / has been adopted to the pocket PCs. It is planned to be used for an ongoing epidemiological study in &Ccedil / ukurova region. We hope that this study will be an example for the similar studies in the future.

Context-aware applications for a Pocket PC

Sun, Yu January 2007 (has links)
With the rapid development of technology for context awareness, pervasive computing is releasing people from their traditional desktops. Since mobile devices feature portability and are (nearly) always connected, people tend to carry them wherever they go. Hence, devices such as cellular phones and Pocket PCs are the most suitable platforms for developing context aware applications which users will utilize in their daily life. For these context aware systems, using this context information not only improves the user experience of ubiquitous computing, but also lets the system know who you are or what you have. More importantly, the device can know where you are and predict what you might like to do, thus simplifying many of the user’s interactions with devices and other people around them. This thesis project involves the design, implementation and evaluation of a context aware application, based upon a Pocket PC, that can remind the user of tasks when the user approaches the relevant location for this task. The application interacts with a context aware infrastructure by using the SIP for Instant Messaging and Presence Leveraging Extensions (SIMPLE) protocol, receives context information for the user described using XML. A number of new tags, based upon a new XML schema, have been introduced for this task. This context aware mechanism enables the user to receive any form of information updated by the context server. In this thesis, updates to this information are driven by changes in the user’s location. Additionally, by using the existing calendar application on the Pocket PC, the user can experience location based reminders without learning how to use a new user interface.
