Farm level economics of winter wheat production in the Canadian Prairies

Yang, Danyi 11 1900 (has links)
This research project estimated economic costs and benefits of winter wheat production in the Canadian Prairies at a farm level. A combination of Net Present Value analysis and Monte Carlo simulation was used to build cash flow farm models by province and soil zone. The objective of this study was to examine the economic feasibility of winter wheat production on the Prairies. Results show that Prairie farmers will benefit from growing winter wheat if crop research further improves cold tolerance, yield, or quality of winter wheat. Incorporating winter wheat into crop rotations has potential to increase farmers’ wealth in the Canadian Prairies. / Agricultural and Resource Economics

Porovnání výnosu a kvality pšenice / The comparision of winter wheat grain yield and quality

CIRHAN, Radek January 2015 (has links)
Thesis topic: Assessment of wheat yield and quality. Three conventional varieties (Midas, Genius and Papageno) and one hybrid variety (Hyland) were subject to the test. The test was carried out in operational conditions of an agricultural plant in 2014. The assessed Midas and Genius varieties are classified as elite varieties in terms of baking quality and the Papageno variety and the hybrid Hyland variety are classified as unsuitable for dough production. The test was aimed at the assessment of the main yield elements, i.e. the number of spikes per m2, the number of grains per spike and the weight of a thousand grains. Another assessment parameter was the quality of grains of the assessed varieties.

Regulace plevelných rostlin při klasickém a minimalizačním způsobu zpracování půdy v porostech ozimých obilnin. / Control of weeds in a classical way and minimalized tillage winter cereals in stands.

PECHAR, Aleš January 2012 (has links)
The aim of this Bachelor´s work was to extend the findings from the classical aspect as well as the minimalizing method of soil tillage and suggest the possibilities of successful regulation of weeds on arable land for growing winter wheat. On the experimental field where the soil was processed by classical tillage appear less dangerous weeds, which were destroyed by application of herbicide and their number was minimal. There were mainly dangerous weeds on the experimental field cultivated by minimalizing, like Silky bent grass and Cleavers. Even if the herbicide applications significantly reduced them, there were a few individuals in the experimental plots. In the economic comparison was found that there is not big difference in cost in both variants of tillage, but the conventional method of processing in this case is cheaper. At the soil endangered by erosion would be better to choose the minimalizing method as an appropriate variant of tillage. But it is needed on all soils cultivated by this method choose different depth of tillage, including the use of deep processing undermining or classical plowing.

Porovnání výnosové schopnosti ozimých odrůd pšenice / The comparison of winter wheat yield ability

AMBROZOVÁ, Lucie January 2014 (has links)
The topic of this Diploma Thesis is "The yield ability comparison among varieties of winter wheat". The Thesis dealt with the yield ability of chosen winter wheat varieties grown in the Czech Republic. Twelve varieties were chosen for the measurement purposes. The experiment was done with kind cooperation with the South Bohemia University in České Budějovice, faculty of Agriculture during growing season 2011/2012 and 2012/2013 on its own land. The experiment was focused especially on the yield components creation number of ears, number of grains per ear, and weight of a thousand grains. Among those, the incidence of weed, diseases, pests were observed during the vegetation period. The number of plants and offshoots were rated. At the end, the theoretical and actual yield, ear length, and volume weight were compared.

Crop water production functions for grain sorghum and winter wheat

Moberly, Joseph January 1900 (has links)
Master of Science / Agronomy / Robert Aiken / Xiaomao Lin / Productivity of water-limited cropping systems can be reduced by untimely distribution of water as well as cold and heat stress. The research objective was to develop relationships among weather parameters, water use, and grain productivity to produce production functions to forecast grain yields of grain sorghum and winter wheat in water-limited cropping systems. Algorithms, defined by the Kansas Water Budget (KSWB) model, solve the soil water budget with a daily time step and were implemented using the Matlab computer language. The relationship of grain yield to crop water use, reported in several crop sequence studies conducted in Bushland, TX; Colby, KS and Tribune, KS were compared against KSWB model results using contemporary weather data. The predictive accuracy of the KSWB model was also evaluated in relation to experimental results. Field studies showed that winter wheat had stable grain yields over a wide range of crop water use, while sorghum had a wider range of yields over a smaller distribution of crop water use. The relationship of winter wheat yield to crop water use, simulated by KSWB, was comparable to relationships developed for four of five experimental results, except for one study conducted in Bushland that indicated less crop water productivity. In contrast, for grain sorghum, experimental yield response to an increment of water use was less than that calculated by KSWB for three of five cases; for one study at Colby and Tribune, simulated and experimental yield response to water use were similar. Simulated yield thresholds were consistent with observed yield thresholds for both wheat and sorghum in all but one case, that of wheat in the Bushland study previously mentioned. Factors in addition to crop water use, such as weeds, pests, or disease, may have contributed to these differences. The KSWB model provides a useful analytic framework for distinguishing water supply constraints to grain productivity.

Tvorba výnosu ozimé pšenice v podmínkách ekologického zemědělství / Yield formation of winter wheat in ecological agriculture

ŠEBESTOVÁ, Martina January 2008 (has links)
The diploma thesis "Yield formation of winter wheat in ecological agriculture " is focused on classification of genotypes of bread wheat on the basis of the morphological characters and yield output of bread wheat in ecological farming system. The field trials were set up by using the method of random blocks in the years 2005 and 2006 on the experimental area of the Faculty of Agriculture, University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice. 10 Austrian genotypes of bread wheat were tested: Capo, Ludwig, Clever, Eurofit, Element, Eriwan, SE 408/04, SE 320/05, SE 304/05 a SE 322/04. The results are focused on the postharvest analysis the main yield components {--} number of spike per square meter, number of grains per spike, thousand grain weight (TGW). The yield and theoretical yield is presented there too. The number of grains per spike, the level of yield and TGW were relatively high. On the other hand the number of spikes per square meter doesn´t reach to expected value in ecological farming. The results were analysed by ANOVA of main effects in programme Statistica. The tested Austrian genotypes showed the possibility of using them in the conditions of ecological farming in the Czech Republic.

SABÁČEK, Radek January 2011 (has links)
Wheat belongs to the most important farm plant worldwide. The largest part of wheat sowing area is used to reach a food quality. An aim of this work is to assess the main criterions of the wheat grain at Zemědělské družstvo Hodonice and suggest the possibilities of its improvement. Wheat quality was assessed using wheat varieties harvested in 2007-2010 in this order: Balada variety from 2007 harvest, varieties Barriton, Bohemia, Balada from 2008, Barryton, Bohemia, Balada, Bardotka from 2009 and Barryton, Bohemia, Bardotka from 2010. Laboratory analyses were made by ZZN Pomoraví a.s.. Individual varieties were compared according to these quality indicators: colour, smell, the taste of grain, moisture, the foreign matters, volume density, and weight of thousand of grains, the mineral content, nitrogen content, SDS test and a Falling Number. The results were put into charts and graphs, assessed and compared according to ČSN-1100-2 ?bread wheat? and other literature data.
