Le travail des préventeurs en entreprise : Contribution méthodologique à la visite de sécurité / The work of OSH in the enterprise : methodological contribution to the safety inspection

Notre thèse s’inscrit dans la lignée d’un premier travail de recherche durant lequel nous avions mis en évidence le recours par les préventeurs à l’accommodation de certaines consignes au cours des visites de sécurité. Ce résultat a suscité de nouveaux questionnements quant aux conséquences de ce phénomène sur leur santé mais aussi sur les performances du système de management de la sécurité. Notre travail de thèse s’est ainsi centré sur la caractérisation des difficultés rencontrées par les préventeurs lors des séquences de résolution de problèmes initiées par la mise en évidence d’écarts à la prescription au cours de la visite de sécurité mais aussi sur l’identification des déterminants méthodologiques qui en sont à l’origine. Trois méthodes ont été utilisées : des relevés des traces de l’activité à l’aide de la méthode de l’agenda, des observations ouvertes de l’activité d’un échantillon préventeurs en entreprise et des observations systématiques des phases de visites de sécurité couplées à des techniques de verbalisations. Les principaux résultats de cette thèse sont que : (i) les préventeurs en entreprise ne consacrent que très peu de temps aux visites de sécurité, (ii) ce phénomène de "désertion" du terrain ne peut être uniquement expliqué par le poids des tâches administratives, (iii) le contexte temporel dans lequel sont réalisées les visites de sécurité et l’absence d’artefact support pour les échanges ne favorisent pas le développement du phénomène de synchronisation cognitive puisque tous les écarts ne sont pas levés par des solutions explicitement approuvées par l’ensemble des interlocuteurs, (iv) les préventeurs développent des stratégies de défense pour réduire les effets de ce manque de performance sur leur santé, (v) les modifications du contexte temporel et l’intégration de l’artefact vidéo facilitant les échanges permettent d’améliorer les performances en matière de résolution de problèmes et de développer dans quelques mesures la santé des préventeurs; les solutions produites sont alors plus nombreuses ou plus complexes, les échanges plus riches et les contraintes mieux gérées. Les résultats de cette thèse permettent à la fois de poursuivre la caractérisation du travail des préventeurs en entreprise, de rendre compte des effets de l’autoconfrontation sur les interviewers mais aussi de proposer une méthode de conception d’artefact basée sur l’approche instrumentale qui facilite l’appropriation. / Our thesis is in line with a first research work in which we highlighted the use by OSH to accommodation of some instructions during safety inspections. This has raised new questions about the consequences of this phenomenon on the health of the OSH but also on the performance of the safety management system. Our thesis then focused on the characterization of the difficulties encountered by OSH during problem solving sequences initiated by the detection of deviations from the prescription safety during the visit, but also on identifying methodological determinants that are at the origin. Three methods were used: statement traces of the activity using the method of the agenda, open observations of the activity of a sample of OSH enterprises and systematic observations visit phases security coupled with verbalisation techniques. The main results of this thesis are: (i) OSH in companies only spend very little time for safety inspections, (ii) the phenomenon of "desertion" of the land can’t be solely explained by the weight of administrative tasks (iii) the temporal context in which are carried out safety inspections and the lack of media artifact exchanges, do not favor the development of cognitive synchronization phenomenon, since all differences are not explicitly approved by surveying the solutions of all interlocutors, (iv) OSH develop defense strategies reducing the effects of this lack of performance on their health, (v) changes in the temporal context and the integration of video artifacts facilitating trade, allows improved performance in terms of deviations lifted; the solutions produced are then more numerous and more complex, exchanges are richer and constraints are better managed. The results of this thesis allow both to continue with the characterization of the work of OHS in companies, to account for the effects of self-confrontation on interviewers but also to offer an artifact design method based on the instrumental approach which facilitates ownership.

Utveckling av hanteringslösning för processat avloppsslam på boendeplattformar i offshore industrin / Development of a management solution for processed sewage sludge on accommodation vessels in the offshore industry

Detta produktutvecklingsarbete har utförts i samarbete med företaget, Pegil Innovations AB. Syftet med projektet var att utveckla en hanteringslösning för processat avloppsslam (damm) på boendeplattformar i offshore industrin. Processen för projektet kombinerade Front-End processen med detaljer från Set-Based Concurrent Engineering. Projektet inleddes med en förstudie och användarstudier för att få djupare kunskap inom ämnet. Detaljer som var viktigt för projektet samlades i en kravspecifikation som användes som stöd genom hela processen. Därefter följde en idégenerering för att utforska lösningar. Från denna framkom fem idélösningar som utforskades vidare genom en fördjupning och jämförelse mot en ny kravspecifikation. Denna var en uppdaterad version av den första för att bättre reflektera vilka krav och önskemål som kunde ställas på idélösningarna. När idélösningarna hade utforskats utfördes en ny idégenerering som ledde till att idélösningarna utvecklades till två koncept. Det fördjupades kring koncepten och dessa jämfördes mot kravspecifikationen. Sedan följde ytterligare en idégenerering för att undersöka hur koncepten kunde förbättras. Slutligen utfördes ett konceptval. Resultatet blev en påse, som fästs runt en stos, som fylldes med damm och sedan sögs luften ur (för att bilda ett undertryck) samt att påsen värmeförseglades. Personalen kan sedan enkelt bära iväg påsen för att kassera denna tillsammans med dammet. / This product development project has been carried out in cooperation with the company, Pegil Innovations AB. The purpose of the project was to develop a management solution for processed sewage sludge (dust) on accommodation vessels in the offshore industry. The process of the project combined the Front-End process with details from Set-Based Concurrent Engineering. The project started with a preliminary study and user studies to obtain deeper understanding regarding the relevant knowledge area. Details that were of importance to the project was gathered in a specification that was used through the entire process as a support. Then an idea generation was preformed, to discover and explore different solutions. From the idea generation five different idea solutions were created. These five solutions were explored deeper and then compared to a new specification. The specification was an updated version from the first one to better reflect what conditions the idea solutions should meet. When the idea solutions were explored, a new idea generation was performed, resulting in two concepts. These concepts were explored deeper and then compared to a new specification. Then followed another idea generation to explore how the concepts could be improved. In conclusion to the project a concept was chosen. The result was a plastic bag which was fastened around a spigot, that was filled with the dust and then the air was withdrawn (to create a vacuum). Then the opening of the plastic bag was heat sealed. The personal could then easily carry the bag to discard this together with the dust.

Ever since the Reformation the providence of God has been variously applied in the doctrine of scripture. In the Reformed and Protestant Orthodox traditions, and in the context of polemic surrounding the nature of scripture that has prevailed down the centuries, providence has always played an important supporting role. In the case of inspiration, it is applied to the preparation of God’s spokesmen. In the case of canon, God is understood to have supervised the reception of just those books He intended for His church. In the case of textual transmission, ‘a singular act of God’s providence’ has preserved the scriptures through time. Thus, providence undergirds the Reformed doctrine of scripture. It functions almost at the level of presupposition. However, such usage is seldom justified, and this raises the question of warrant. The Bible itself must be revisited to determine if the application of providence to scripture in Reformed Dogmatics is legitimate by its own standard of Sola Scriptura. A survey and exegesis of a number of important passages confirms that it is. The advert of social media has transformed the way in which tourism businesses operate especially in the marketing of tourism services. One major tourism sector which has been influenced by social media is the accommodation subsector. Hospitality businesses are now compelled to adopt social networks for marketing purposes to keep pace with changes in consumer behaviour. Previous research has indicated that, although social media is a new phenomenon in marketing, hospitality businesses such as accommodation facilities have embraced it for marketing purposes and the usage varies from one country to another. Prior studies have also shown that social networks are now considered a major source of information for tourists and influence their decision making process. Evidence from the literature shows that little work has been done to investigate the effectiveness of social networks in marketing accommodation services in Sub-Saharan Africa. Studies on adoption and usage of social networks in the accommodation sector in South Africa and Zimbabwe are limited. This study was done to address these knowledge gaps identified in literature. The aim of this research was to determine the effectiveness of social networks in the marketing of accommodation services in South Africa and Zimbabwe. To achieve this, two literature chapters provided an in-depth discussion on social media marketing as well as the influence of these networks on tourists‟ decision-making process. For the empirical survey, the study used an electronic questionnaire which was mailed to South African accommodation establishments. The same questionnaire was hand delivered by field workers in Zimbabwe from June 2013 to July 2014. A total of 129 and 134 were completed from South Africa and Zimbabwe respectively. Factor analysis was used to identify the dominant factors influencing usage of social networks and their effectiveness. The dominant factors were further tested using t-test, chi-square test and effect sizes calculation. The results from t-test and effect sizes computation revealed that there was a statistically significant difference in both the usage of social networks and the effectiveness of social networks in the two countries. Chi-square tests results further revealed that accommodation establishments in both countries were not extensively utilising social networks for marketing purposes and social networks were effective marketing tool in the accommodation sector. The major challenges highlighted by most accommodation establishments from both countries were, time constraints, lack knowledge on the use social networks for marketing and lack of commitment to sustain social media marketing efforts. Power cuts were also another challenge for the Zimbabwean accommodation establishments. This study did not only present theoretical contributions to accommodation establishments but practical recommendations were also made. Based on the results, this study made the following invaluable contributions: firstly a social media marketing framework was proposed. This framework contributes to the body of literature that could be used for future references in the field of social media marketing. The framework provides some necessary steps that can be followed when implementing social media marketing not only by accommodation establishments but with other similar businesses. Secondly, the study addresses the gap in literature by providing evidence from a developing country‟s perspective on the usage and effectiveness of social networks an area which has received little attention in hospitality research. Findings of this study can be used as a future reference by other researchers in the field of social media marketing on the African continent. Det svenska välfärdssamhället har sedan länge värnat om alla likas rätt att få sina levnadsbehov tillgodosedda. I de fall där äldre blivit inkapabla att själva ta hand om sina behov kan plats till särskilt boende sökas där den äldre får assistans i sin livsföring. Biståndsansökningar till dessa boenden hanteras av kommunala tjänstemän och ska enligt lag hanteras lika för alla, oavsett kommunal utförare.Studien undersöker och analyserar huruvida det råder skillnader mellan större kommuner i Sverige vad gäller planering av- och placering till särskilt boende.Slutsatsen är att skillnader föreligger då vissa kommunerna utformat en reaktiv strategi där en uppbyggnad av ej verkställda beslut rättas till i efterhand och som inte tar hänsyn till behov utan endast ålder. De kommuner som lyckats väga in hälsa och behov i sin planering och i förväg försökt skatta den framtida efterfrågan på särskilt boende har lyckats bättre. Studiens resultat är att det råder kommunala skillnader kopplade till planering och placering till särskilda boende / The swedish welfare state has a history of equal rights for living needs. In cases whereolder people become incapable to take care of their needs, there are specialaccommodations where the elderly can receive all forms of assistance. Theapplication to these special accommodations are managed by the municipal officialsand must be handled equal by law, regardless of local performers.This study examines and analyzes whether there are differences between the largermunicipalities in Sweden in terms of planning and placement to specialaccommodations.The conclusion is that differences exist because some municipalities have designed areactive strategy in which a buildup of unexecuted decisions has to be correctedretrospectively and does not take needs but age into to account. The municipalitiesthat managed to weigh health and needs in their planning and tried to estimate thefuture in advance regarding demand for special accommodations has been moresuccessful. The result of this study is that there are municipal differences in planningand placement for special accommodations

A changing climate: a review of the accommodation and communication methods, for discussing complex, scientific topics, in county extension in Kansas and Oklahoma

Tomlinson / The purpose of this study was to determine specific communication accommodations used by county agricultural and natural resource agents/educators when discussing complex, scientific topics like climate change. Four research objectives were used to determine 1) background and experience of agents/educators, 2) how agents/educators are communicating on complex, scientific topics, 3) climate-change information received and preferred method of receiving future training, and 4) agents’/educators’ communication adjustment. This study was guided by Communication Accommodation Theory to understand how agents/educators are adjusting their communication when speaking to producers with varying education levels, grammar usage, and seeking different types of climate information. This study utilized a mixed method, quantitative and qualitative, survey (n = 42). Extension in Kansas and Oklahoma had not publicized an organizational stance on climate change. Kansas agents and Oklahoma educators had access to climate-change information through a variety of internal and external sources. Agents/educators had a strong background in agriculture and varying ranges of experience in the position. The main communication channel producers utilized to contact agents/educators was the telephone (52.24%). Both states indicated they are conducting an average of five on-farm visits a month. Over half (25) of agents/educators indicated they had received some form of climate-change information since becoming an agent/educator. Agents/educators indicated they received this information from sources external to Extension in Kansas and Oklahoma. They also indicated future training should be interactive and close to home. This study found agents/educators are accommodating in their responses to agricultural producers’ requests for climate-change information, but also showed nonaccommodating tendencies. Agents/educators were viewed as nonaccommodating when they used improper grammar, improper email format, or told the producer there was no need for concern on their perceived climate issue. Agents/educators offered to make site visits to the producers’ field, referred to specialists, and worked to establish credibility. This study determined agents/educators have the background and information sources to adequately and effectively answer producers’ questions about climate change. It was determined the reason agents/educators do not want climate-change conversations is because of a lack of formal training on the matter, and they do not feel comfortable. This study recommends Extension provide communication and climate-change training for agents/educators. It also recommends agents/educators continue to conduct on-farm visits as they are vital to interpersonal communication with agricultural producers. Extension should take steps to reach a younger audience and help young people become involved in agriculture.

THE FORMATIVE EVALUATION OF A WEB-BASED PERFORMANCE SUPPORT SYSTEM DESIGNED TO IMPROVE ACCOMMODATION OF STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES IN POSTSECONDARY EDUCATION

The numbers of students with disabilities enrolling in postsecondary institutions has increased since the passage of key disability rights legislation. As a result, the need for information about accommodating postsecondary students with disabilities has increased in the last two decades, especially since the passage of the Higher Education Amendments of 1998. This study used Dick and Carey's (1996) model of instructional design to conduct a formative evaluation of a Web-based performance support system (WPSS) designed for academic administrators, instructional employees, and auxiliary service administrators to enhance accommodations for postsecondary students with disabilities. Formative evaluation consisted of expert review, one-to-one, consumer analysis, and field trial phases. During the expert review phase, subject matter experts, instructional design and usability experts, and individuals with disabilities completed surveys to assess the degree to which the WPSS contained current content, included elements of effective design, and was accessible to individuals with disabilities. During the one-to-one, consumer analysis, and field trial phases, academic administrators, instructional personnel, and auxiliary service administrators on the University of Kentucky campus completed a questionnaire using the WPSS to assess the degree to which the WPSS was effective in providing information. In addition, users completed a survey to assess their perceptions of the WPSS. Finally, data were collected to assess difficulties encountered by users. Results from the expert review phase of the evaluation suggest that the WPSS contained current content, included elements of effective design, and was accessible to individuals with disabilities. Analysis of the questionnaire scores from all phases revealed that users obtained a mean accuracy rate of 74% or higher on the in-session questionnaire. In addition, all users required a mean of 3.9 minutes or less per question to locate responses for items on the questionnaire. The perceptions of all users about the WPSS were positive. Results also indicated that users reported a variety of technical difficulties; however, the majority were related to server errors. Revisions made to the WPSS after each phase of evaluation are described. Implications of the investigation for researchers and Web developers, limitations of the investigation, and areas for future research also are discussed.
