Studies in acetonitrile solutions. I. The calomel reference electrode. II. The polarographic behaviour of some organic compoundsJayadevappa, Ettigi Sivappa January 1955 (has links)
The possibility of using a calomel electrode as a reference standard in the polarographic comparisons in acetonitrile has been studied. The results indicate that the time required for attaining a constant potential is too long to be convenient for such use.
The behaviour of some organic nitrocompounds at the dropping mercury electrode in acetonitrile containing 0.1 molar tetrabutylammonium iodide has been studied. The nitroanilines and the nitrophenols give distinct double waves on polarographic reduction. There is no formation of any maxima in the case of the nitroanilines, whereas, maxima are found to develop with time in the case of the nitrophenols. The maxima are found to be non-suppressible.
The ease of reduction of the nitrophenols and the nitroanilines, as given by their half-wave potentials, is in agreement with the order expected on the basis of the previously established theories of Shikata and Astle. A possible mechanism of the reduction is given with the irreversibility of the reduction in view. / Science, Faculty of / Chemistry, Department of / Graduate

Raman and NMR Investigation of Molecular Reorientation and Internal Rotation in LiquidsYuan, Peng 12 1900 (has links)
Molecular rotational motions are known to influence both Raman scattering of light and nuclear spin relaxation. Therefore, the application of Raman bandshape analysis and NMR relaxation time measurements to probe molecular dynamics in liquids will provide us with a deeper understanding of the dynamical behavior and structure of molecules in the liquid phase. Presented here are (i) studies of molecular reorientation of acetonitrile in the neat liquid phase and in solution by Raman bandshape analysis and NMR relaxation; (ii) studies of reorientational dynamics and internal rotation in transition metal clusters by NMR relaxation.

The characterization and electrochemistry of dye-sensitized solar cellsCaga, Noloyiso January 2013 (has links)
In this study a presentation of the technology behind dye-sensitized solar cells, their design as well as the role of the different parts of the cell. The characterization of the cell is divided into four sections namely: the characterization of the paste required to make the TiO2 film and its optical properties using SEM-EDX and XRD analytical techniques; Analysis of the various absorptions of three Ru-based dyes using UV-Vis spectroscopy, Photoluminescence and Fourier Transform Infra-Red spectroscopy; the characterization and the analyses of the entire cell using Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy. The nine cells were prepared by examining RuL2(CN)2 , RuL2(NCS)2 or N3 dye and RuL2(NCS)2 TBA+ or N719 dye. [L = 2,2'-bipyridyl-4,4'-dicarboxylic acid ;TBA = tetra-butyl ammonium] were combined with three electrolytes namely: Z–150 , AN–50 and PN–50. The Iodolyte PN–50 is an iodide based low viscosity electrolyte with 50 mM of tri-iodide dissolved in a solvent called propionitrile (PN). The Iodolyte AN–50 is an iodide based low viscosity electrolyte with 50 mM of tri-iodide dissolved in a solvent called acetonitrile (AN). The Iodolyte Z–150 is an iodide based low viscosity electrolyte with 150 mM of tri-iodide dissolved in a solvent called 3-methoxypropionitrile (MPN) and with additives such an ionic liquid, malkylbenziimidazole and guanidine thiocyanate. A solar simulator was utilized with which the standard solar irradiation can be created in laboratory conditions. The fill factors as well as overall performance efficiencies of the these cells are quite low < 1.0%,.

Studies on the application of two‐phase separation mixed solution to separation and detection technology / 二相分離混合溶液の分離及び検出技術の応用に関する研究 / ニソウ ブンリ コンゴウ ヨウエキ ノ ブンリ オヨビ ケンシュツ ギジュツ ノ オウヨウ ニカンスル ケンキュウ韓 氷, Hyo Kan 22 March 2020 (has links)
The following were examined by taking advantage of TRDP using two-phase separation mixed solution: protein separation by the TRDC with the ternary mixed solution of water–acetonitrile–ethyl acetate, optical isomers separation by the TRDC with the ternary solution containing cyclodextrin as a chiral recognition molecule, development of the TRDC with a water–acetonitrile mixed solution containing sodium chloride as a two-phase separation mixed solution instead of the ternary solution, and introduction of the principle of the TRDC to a commercial HPLC system. Furthermore, the peroxioxalate CL detection was for the first time examined by using the ternary mixed solution. The investigation of the TRDP and TRDC, as well as the ternary mixed solution of water–acetonitrile–ethyl acetate, are interesting in view of not only analytical chemistry but also chemical engineering, and physical chemistry. / 博士(工学) / Doctor of Philosophy in Engineering / 同志社大学 / Doshisha University
