Stage or Prison¡HA Study of Online Self-presentation and Offline Labor Process of YouTube Amateur PerformersChen, I-Chun 03 August 2012 (has links)
Accroading to the rapid development of broadband network technology, the Internet video sharing platform YouTube has a number of amateur performers sharing their own shot creative video in order to attract the attention of the audience and the mass media. The study based on famous online amateur performers the spectacle / performance paradigm behavior to discuss the relationship in panopticon surroundings. Also the perspective of Attention Economy explain the amateur performers how to attract user¡¦s attention and maintain the relationship and the labor relationship between manufactures when they have opportunity with them.
The study use Virtual Ethnography to watch and participate YouTube of amateurs and depth interviews to understand the motivation of amateurs. Accroading to the result of study, the amateur desire been watching from others, the relationship on the Internet reverse the power. At the beginning, the amateur create video by their self-awareness and enjoy others watching. When they become famous , the user¡¦s watching and beloved restrict creative of the amateur. Based on the continued, the culture of the labor process with manufactures was different form the traditional, the users opinion is more important than manufactures.

Idrotts-självförtroende och motivation : Hos kvinnliga och manliga elit- respektive amatörspelare i bandyÖsterberg, Jonas January 2014 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to exam the possible differences in the experienced self-confidence and motivation among the elite players in bandy and amateur players in bandy. In addition, any differences between boys and girls within the same area to be studied. A total of 112 athletes participated of whom 52 of them classified as elite players and 60 amateur players, with 62 boys and 50 girls. The athletes filled at one point in the questionnaires The Sport Motivation Scale, Harter’s (1980) “competence scale” and The Sport Confidence Inventory. The results demonstrated differences between elite players and amateur players in the variables perceived motivation and perceived self-confidence. The results showed that the amateur players had a higher perceived amotivation than elite players experienced in this study. Furthermore, results showed that elite players feel they have a higher sport-confidence than amateur players had. Furthermore, it shows also the result of a significant difference between boys and girls perceived motivation and sport-confidence in this study. The boys show a higher result in motivation and sport-confidence.

Exploring the intersection of translation and music : an analysis of how foreign songs reach Chinese audiencesXie, Lingli January 2016 (has links)
The thesis looks into the practice of song translation, which occupies a peripheral position in translation studies (TS) despite its commonplace occurrence and significant impact on the global spread of songs. Foreign songs enjoy enormous appeal in China, where different methods have been adopted to translate them with the aim of enhancing listeners’ full reception. In particular, the practice of writing Chinese lyrics anew and setting them to the foreign tunes regardless of the semantic relationship between the source text (ST) and the target text (TT) has proliferated over the past decades. Some translated songs capture the gist of the original lyrics omitting minor details whereas some sever their relations with the original. This blurs the boundaries between translation, adaptation and rewriting lyrics. Another noticeable phenomenon is the emergence of self-organising communities, whose involvement in translating song lyrics and circulating subtitled music videos (MVs) cannot be overlooked in today’s digital landscape. Song translation can be understood as a field with its own “rules of the game” and exchange of different forms of capital following a Bourdieusian perspective. Adopting a case study methodology, the thesis investigates the particular field of song translation with special reference to the translation practices of a veteran song translator named Xue Fan 薛范, online amateur translators, and a professional lyricist from Hong Kong called Albert Leung 林夕. These case studies have been conducted for providing an in-depth analysis of China’s song translation activities through time and the dynamics of the power relations in the field. To translate a song from one language and culture into another invariably involves the losses and gains of certain elements, given the song’s semiotic richness. Against this backdrop, the thesis attempts to examine how the interplay of different meaning-making modes in a song has been dealt with by different agents under various circumstances through close examination of the relationship between STs and TTs. This will allow a better understanding of the production, circulation and reception of song translations in respective historical, ideological and social contexts. It is hoped that the thesis can provide new insights into our understanding of ‘translation’ in relation to music, and further shed light on how translation evolves at the convergence of music and technology in the globalisation era.

A ground station for the amateur satellite serviceGreene, Stephan A. 16 February 2010 (has links)

This report presents the design of a ground station for performing satellite
communications using amateur radio satellites. The resulting design integrates
commercially available hardware and software to provide effective communications
using all current amateur satellite analog and digital operating modes. The station is
capable of growth to support message forwarding, gateway, and satellite monitoring
and control functions. The acquisition plan spreads the station's acquisition over
several years to keep costs within an individual's budget, and maintains flexibility to
adapt to changes in satellites and communications modes available over the station's
life. The station's major design drivers are sufficient link budget for reliable
communications, the station's life cycle cost, ensuring radio frequency energy fields are
at safe levels, placement of antennas and supports to comply with local architectural
restrictions, and selection of a 435 MHz transceiver for the station.

This project illustrates the ability of individuals or small groups to economically
acquire effective satellite communications capability by integrating largely off-the-shelf
hardware and software. In conjunction with small, relatively low-cost satellites, this
ability places space communications and related research within reach of groups
otherwise excluded from participating in satellite programs.
/ Master of Science
