O objetivo deste estudo foi o de mostrar fato que se faz necessário avançar para a produção de um novo software que possa ser utilizado por diversos profissionais e para diferentes tarefas no ambiente de trabalho / Abstract: Let work activities over time to just be repetitive and become multifunctional, more over, with thw work practice, the structure of the environment and the demands made in the workplace have led to more absences and even by pension disability. What can a CAQDAS analysis reveal about university textual identity?Dickinson, Mary J. January 2002 (has links)
This thesis argues that changes in the 'idea' of the university can be identified through an analysis of the textual identities of institutions utilising Computer Assisted Qualitative Data Analysis Software (CAQDAS). The historical review at the beginning of the work identifies four key, perennial aspects of university identity and function: (i) transmitting knowledge and producing cultured students; (ii) research; (iii) training for employment; and (iv) a wider duty to society. The thesis rests upon the premise that the relative prominence of each of these four aspects in university publications gives a university a certain textual identity at a given time. The thesis further suggests that certain specific forces - State intervention, economic pressures, industry, and competition - affect the priority given to these aspects. The University of Surrey is examined as a case study and changes in the relative prominence of these aspects are observed in the textual presentation of this institution over time. These findings, when compared with an analysis of the public documents of a cross-sector sample of other institutions, revealed different textual identities and this has implications regarding university mission and performance. The thesis shows that external factors do have an influence upon textual identity. CAQDAS was also able to reveal that university textual identity is not monolithic and varies over time and depending on the intended audience. The remit of the study extends to January 2002, and is therefore timely in light of the 2001 review of the structure and funding of higher education (Newby, 2001), particularly because a key aspect of the Newby review is the increasingly explicit linking of funding to mission. This analysis contributes to debates in higher education concerning institutional identity, the usefulness of existing institutional typologies, mission, and possible futures for the sector. The study also makes a methodological contribution to educational research in its innovative employment of the CAQDAS tool.

Performance analysis software for reinforced concrete beam-columns under various load and displacement patternsRohleder, Schyler January 1900 (has links)
Master of Science / Department of Civil Engineering / Asad Esmaeily / Performance-based building design is a necessity in geographic locations where buildings are susceptible to large earthquakes and high winds. This design method requires an analysis of the performance of the structural system with loadings and deflections caused by earthquakes and wind. Current design codes include the load intensity in analysis procedures, but do not consider the effect of load pattern in the performance analysis of reinforced concrete columns. Because a thorough analysis must take into consideration load pattern and load intensity, computer software is ideal to analyze these systems.
A computer program was originally developed by Esmaeily (USC_RC), and was revised later to be renamed (KSU_RC) in order to make the analysis of concrete column performance accurate, yet simple for design purposes. This analytical tool used analytical methods and material models, verified against experimental data, to accurately predict the performance of reinforced concrete columns under various loading conditions, including any pattern in lateral direction and independently variable axial load. However, the program was limited to circular, rectangular, hollow circular and rectangular sections and uniaxial lateral curvature and displacement. The next generation of the program, KSU RC 2.0, was developed to overcome the aforesaid limitations.

Development And Application Of An Online Tool For Meta-Analyses Using Design Science PrinciplesGiboney, Justin Scott January 2014 (has links)
Nations are becoming increasingly sensitive about securing their borders, leading border security organizations to investigate systems designed to detect deception through linguistic analysis. As research about linguistic deception still has resulted in competing hypotheses, this dissertation uses a design science, information systems approach to build a system that synthesizes research on the linguistics of deception. It also performs a systematic review and meta-analysis to provide information about linguistics of deception to border security organizations. This dissertation outlines features that should be included in collaborative meta-analysis tools: process restriction, task organization, information sharing, task coordination, terminology definition, and simple interfaces. These features are discussed and implemented in a new system www.OrionShoulders.com. Through a systematic review and a behavioral experiment on linguistic of deception using the new system, this dissertation identified seven behavioral and cognitive constructs that could be measured through linguistics during deception: cognitive load, event recollection, guilt, credibility portrayal, distancing, dominant behavior, and hedging. This dissertation contributes a theoretical model that explains these seven constructs and how they are measured. The results of the systematic review and the behavioral experiment showed that hedging terms, first-person pronouns, negative emotion, generalizing terms, and the quantity of words were significantly correlated with deception.

A taxonomic study of the genus Crotalaria l (Fabaceae, tribe Crotalarieae) and a modified infrageneric classification systemLe Roux, Margaretha Marianne 15 August 2012 (has links)
D.Phil. / The genus Crotalaria (tribe Crotalarieae, Fabaceae) includes 700 species with its main centre of species diversity in Africa and Madagascar and secondary radiations to other parts of the world (including North and South America, India, South-East Asia and Australia). Molecular systematics has recently provided profound new insights into generic relationships in the Crotalarieae, thereby creating the opportunity to re-evaluate the taxonomic and functional significance of flower and fruit structure in the tribe, with emphasis on the large genus Crotalaria. A representative sample of flowers from 211 species was dissected to record morphological character states and fruit transverse sections of 142 species was cut to record anatomical variation across the tribe. These data were supplemented from the literature to allow for generalizations. Six structural-functional flower types were identified: (1) pump; (2) gullet; (3) hugging; (4) saddle; (5) tunnel; and (6) brush. The saddle and tunnel types are here described for the first time. Crotalaria is the only genus within the tribe that has the brush type; specialized flowers characterized by a rostrate keel, highly dimorphic anthers, stylar trichomes and four types of elaborate callosities on the standard petal: (1) ridge callosities – vertical swellings on the blade and claw; (2) disc callosities – subcircular swellings on the blade; (3) columnar callosities – cylindrical protruding appendages on the blade; and (4) lamelliform callosities – plate-like protruding appendages on the blade. Trends toward specialization are apparent across the phylogeny as a whole suite of specialized floral characters and are homoplastic as a result of convergence.

Patent Portfolio BenchmarkingIn the Logistics Industry : Are Patents Relevant for Competitiveness in the Logistics Industry?Stefan, Ioana January 2013 (has links)
The present Master thesis was written during an internship at Deutsche Post DHL Solutions& Innovations, a subsidiary of Deutsche Post DHL. The main purpose was to make a patent portfolio benchmark for the previously identified business competitors of the DPDHL group. The research questions aimed to find out how relevant the patent portfolio analysis is for comparing competitors and whether or not the results can be matched with other types of rankings. The benchmark was made using the PatentSight software tool. PatentSight allows the patent portfolio analysis of individual companies as well as groups of companies (competitors). The software tool is based on a new approach to benchmark patent portfolios called Patent Asset Index. This approach uses several indicators to measure the patent portfolios strengths. The indicators are based on relatively widely used measures of patent analysis such as the number of citations that a patent has received. However, these measures are further adjusted by the PatentSight indicators in order to prevent false results due to the difference in patents’ ages, for instance. The results of the patent portfolio benchmark and their comparison with other rankings have confirmed previous research findings that the patent portfolio analysis is a useful tool which can remove uncertainties and provide new perspectives but cannot be used as single indicator of the competitors’ strength.
