Hjältar och skurkar : En retoriskt förankrad narrativ analys av Dokument inifrån: Vaccinkrigarna

Malm, Ronja, Nilsen, Moa January 2021 (has links)
The vaccine issue is on the agenda and is widely discussed in the public debate. The reason is the ongoing corona pandemic which has led some people to refuse vaccination while others have been patiently waiting for their turn to receive their vaccination dose and it is clear that the topic divides the population into three different groups; pro- vaccine, anti-vaccine and those who have doubts about the issue. In SVT's Dokument inifrån: Vaccinkrigarna the journalists behind the documentary invites the viewer through infiltration into the anti-vaccine movement that works agianst vaccine by highlighting its disadvantages and possible harms. But how are the problems of vaccines portrayed in the documentary and how do the journalists present themselves? That is what this study aims to investigate by anchoring a rhetorical narrative analysis in a narratological approach. The theoretical starting point that forms the basis for the analysis work of the documentary in this study is Bill Nichols – Dokumentärfilmen som genre och Bengt Nermans Massmedieretorik, and previous research by Magnus Danielson Den granskande makten, Piotr Urniaz Redigering och skuld and Jesper Strömbäcks study on the need for investigative journalism. Methodological concepts, based on theoretical starting points, that are pertain to the study are observation and tracing.By using a rhetorical narratological analysis method and support from previous research and the selected theoretical starting points, the study has clearly shown the position of the documentary and the journalists behind it in the matter of vaccines. The problem of stopping vaccination is clearly highlighted and backed up by experts and healthcare professionals, something that gives the recipient an obvious idea that the purpose of the documentary is to encourage vaccination. It is also clear that the journalists and other participants who are in favor of vaccines stand for the good, those who want to get the viewers and all the inhabitants of society to do what they think is right; continue to vaccinate. While the participants in the resistance movement the journalists infiltrate are pointed out as the ignorant and evil, those whom the World Health Organization WHO classifies as one of the greatest threats to global health. Keywords: vaccine, documentary, journalists, vaccine resistance movement, experts
